I worked with Accotx on a HMRC reclaim and overall, they did ultimately deliver on their promise, which I appreciate. The process did take longer than any of us expected, partly due to external delays with the tax authorities, and partly because there were some hiccups in communication and follow-up. However, despite those challenges, they stayed professional and stuck to the original agreed terms. If you’re considering using them, be prepared to stay in regular contact to keep things moving along. They are absolutely capable, have the expertise and willing to work with you, and overall improving their services over time. I would certainly return for any future needs.Posted on Google![]()

Dormant company accounts are the annual accounts a company prepares for Companies House when it has been dormant for the accounting period in question, meaning it has had no significant accounting transactions. They are a formal set of accounts, not simply a statement that nothing happened, and the way they are prepared and delivered depends on the company's circumstances and the applicable Companies House rules. Dormant accounts are separate from a confirmation statement, and separate again from any Corporation Tax Return that may be due to HMRC.
Broadly, a company is treated as dormant for Companies House purposes when it has had no significant accounting transactions during the period. Certain transactions are usually disregarded for this test, and what counts as significant is not always obvious from a bank statement alone. Because the test looks at the company's actual activity across the whole period, it is worth reviewing the accounts and the company's records rather than assuming dormancy simply because no trading took place. If the company has bought, sold, invoiced, paid wages or received income, it may not meet the dormant test.
Yes, in most cases. A company that is dormant for Companies House purposes generally still has to file annual accounts for each accounting period, unless it has been formally dissolved or a specific rule applies to its situation. Being dormant is not the same as being exempt from filing. The form and route used to file can differ depending on the company's circumstances, so it is important to check which applies before submitting anything to Companies House.
A confirmation statement is a separate Companies House filing from dormant company accounts, and a dormant company will normally still need to file one. It confirms that the information Companies House holds about the company, such as its registered office, directors and shareholders, is correct as at the confirmation date. Filing dormant accounts does not remove the need for a confirmation statement, and filing a confirmation statement does not replace the need for annual accounts.
No. These are two separate concepts with two separate sets of rules. A company can be dormant for Companies House purposes but still have Corporation Tax obligations, or be dormant for Corporation Tax purposes while having different Companies House filing requirements. Filing dormant accounts with Companies House does not automatically notify HMRC of dormancy and does not automatically change your Corporation Tax position. If you are unsure where the company stands with HMRC, that needs to be dealt with separately.
That depends on the company's position with HMRC rather than its position with Companies House. A Corporation Tax Return (CT600) is a separate HMRC obligation, and whether one is required depends on the company's circumstances and any correspondence from HMRC. A company that has not traded may still be asked to submit a return, or may need to tell HMRC that it is dormant for Corporation Tax purposes. Because this sits outside the Companies House filing process, it is worth checking rather than assuming that no return is needed.
At a minimum, we usually need the company's registered details, the accounting period in question, and enough information about the company's activity during that period to establish whether it meets the dormant test. That might include bank statements, any payments made or received, details of any changes to the company's officers or share capital, and confirmation of the company's accounting reference date. The exact information required varies from company to company, so we will tell you precisely what is needed once we understand your circumstances.
It can, in some circumstances. Certain transactions, including some fees and charges, are typically disregarded when assessing dormancy, which is why a company is not automatically disqualified just because a small amount has moved through its bank account. However, this is not a blanket rule and it depends on what the transactions were and the applicable Companies House requirements. If the company has had any activity, it is best to have the records reviewed so the right filing route can be identified.
