I worked with Accotx on a HMRC reclaim and overall, they did ultimately deliver on their promise, which I appreciate. The process did take longer than any of us expected, partly due to external delays with the tax authorities, and partly because there were some hiccups in communication and follow-up. However, despite those challenges, they stayed professional and stuck to the original agreed terms. If you’re considering using them, be prepared to stay in regular contact to keep things moving along. They are absolutely capable, have the expertise and willing to work with you, and overall improving their services over time. I would certainly return for any future needs.Posted on Google![]()

I highly recommend Imran to anyone looking for a reliable and knowledgeable accountant. He helped me sort out a very complicated backlog of accounts and prepared my overdue tax returns with professionalism and attention to detail. Throughout the process, he was incredibly patient, took the time to answer all of my questions, and explained everything clearly. He guided me through each step and helped rectify issues that had built up over time, making what felt like an overwhelming situation much more manageable. Dormant company accounts are the annual accounts a company prepares for a period in which it has been dormant for Companies House purposes — broadly, a period with no significant accounting transactions. They are not a way of skipping accounts altogether; they are the annual accounts that reflect an inactive period, prepared in line with the applicable Companies House requirements. The format and content that apply depend on your company's circumstances, which is why it is worth checking your position before filing rather than assuming every dormant company follows the same route.
For Companies House purposes, a company is generally treated as dormant when it has had no significant accounting transactions during the accounting period. There are some transactions that are usually disregarded for this purpose, such as certain share-related payments and fees paid to Companies House, but the detail matters. Simply having no sales, having not yet started trading, or having paused trading for a while does not automatically make a company dormant. It is a question of what actually happened in the accounts for that specific period.
In most cases, yes. A company that is dormant for Companies House purposes generally still needs to file annual accounts and a confirmation statement each year, unless the company has been formally dissolved or another specific rule applies. Dormant status is not the same as having no filing responsibilities, and letting filings fall behind can create unnecessary complications for directors. If you are unsure whether your company has to file on a dormant basis, it is sensible to confirm your position before the filing date rather than leaving it to chance.
Yes, a confirmation statement is a separate Companies House filing from dormant company accounts, and a dormant company will normally need to file one. The confirmation statement confirms that the information Companies House holds about your company — such as its registered office, directors, shareholders and share capital — is correct as at the confirmation date. It is not an annual accounts filing and it does not deal with any tax obligations. Many companies file both each year, so it helps to treat them as two distinct tasks on your annual compliance calendar.
No, they are separate concepts with different criteria. A company can be dormant for Companies House purposes and still have Corporation Tax obligations, or alternatively be treated as dormant for Corporation Tax purposes while still needing to file accounts at Companies House. Filing dormant accounts with Companies House does not automatically tell HMRC that your company is dormant, and it does not settle any Corporation Tax position on your behalf. If you want to understand your HMRC status, that needs to be looked at separately from your Companies House filing.
That depends on your company's circumstances and what HMRC has asked for. A Corporation Tax Return (CT600) is an HMRC obligation and is entirely separate from Dormant Company Accounts Filing at Companies House. Even where a company is not actively trading, HMRC may still expect a return, or may confirm that none is required for a particular period. Rather than assuming either way, it is worth checking your company's position directly with HMRC or with an accountant who can review your specific circumstances.
Typically, we need your company name and number, the accounting period covered, the date the company was incorporated, details of the directors and registered office as held at Companies House, and confirmation of the company's activity — or lack of it — during the period. It also helps to know about anything that might affect dormant status, such as bank interest, bank charges, or any other transactions that have passed through the company's accounts. The more complete and accurate the information you provide, the smoother the preparation and filing process tends to be.
It can, but these transactions matter. Bank charges, interest received, or other small movements through the company's bank account may affect whether the company genuinely qualifies as dormant for Companies House purposes for that period. A handful of transactions does not automatically mean the company cannot file dormant accounts, but the position needs to be reviewed based on what actually happened. If you are unsure how a particular transaction affects your dormant status, it is better to raise it before the accounts are prepared.
