I worked with Accotx on a HMRC reclaim and overall, they did ultimately deliver on their promise, which I appreciate. The process did take longer than any of us expected, partly due to external delays with the tax authorities, and partly because there were some hiccups in communication and follow-up. However, despite those challenges, they stayed professional and stuck to the original agreed terms. If you’re considering using them, be prepared to stay in regular contact to keep things moving along. They are absolutely capable, have the expertise and willing to work with you, and overall improving their services over time. I would certainly return for any future needs.Posted on Google![]()

I highly recommend Imran to anyone looking for a reliable and knowledgeable accountant. He helped me sort out a very complicated backlog of accounts and prepared my overdue tax returns with professionalism and attention to detail. Dormant company accounts are the annual accounts a company prepares for Companies House when it has been dormant for Companies House purposes during the relevant period. They are a simplified set of accounts that reflect a company with no significant accounting transactions, rather than the fuller accounts a trading company would normally prepare. The exact content and the correct filing route depend on the company's circumstances and the rules that apply to it, so it is worth checking before you submit rather than assuming one approach fits every dormant company.
Broadly, a company is treated as dormant for Companies House purposes when it has had no significant accounting transactions during the financial period in question. Certain movements may still be acceptable in limited circumstances, so the position is not always as straightforward as it sounds. If you are unsure whether particular activity during the year affects dormant status, it is better to have the position reviewed before preparing and filing the accounts, because the wrong filing route can cause unnecessary follow-up later.
In most cases, yes. A dormant company that remains registered generally still has annual filing obligations, which commonly include filing annual accounts with Companies House and filing a confirmation statement. Dormancy is not an exemption from every company filing requirement. The only clear exceptions are where the company has been formally dissolved or where a specific rule applies to that company, so it is worth confirming your position rather than assuming nothing is due.
A confirmation statement is a separate Companies House filing from dormant company accounts, and companies that remain registered will usually need to file one for each confirmation period, even if they have not been trading. The confirmation statement confirms that the information Companies House holds about the company, such as the registered office address, directors and shareholders, is correct. It is a different exercise from Dormant Company Accounts Filing, and the two should not be treated as substitutes for one another.
Yes. A dormant company may have different accounting requirements from an active trading company, and the accounts prepared for a dormant company are usually far simpler than the accounts of a business with turnover, expenses, stock or creditors to report. The figures involved are limited because there have been no significant transactions. That said, the correct route still depends on the company's individual circumstances and the applicable Companies House rules, and not every dormant company will use the same form or filing method.
No. These are two separate concepts, and a company can be dormant for one purpose without automatically being dormant for the other. Companies House dormancy relates to your annual accounts filing, while Corporation Tax dormancy is a matter for HMRC and depends on HMRC's own criteria. Filing dormant accounts with Companies House does not automatically notify HMRC that the company is dormant, and it does not by itself end any Corporation Tax obligations the company may have.
That depends on the company's position with HMRC rather than on its Companies House status. A Corporation Tax Return, often referred to as a CT600, is a separate HMRC obligation and is not the same thing as Dormant Company Accounts Filing. Some companies are treated as dormant for Corporation Tax purposes and are not required to submit a return, while others still are. Because the answer turns on your specific circumstances, it is worth checking your Corporation Tax position directly rather than assuming Companies House dormancy settles it.
Typically, you will need the company's basic details, the financial period the accounts cover, information about the company's officers and registered office, and confirmation of the company's position during that period. It also helps to know whether the company has filed accounts before and on which route, along with any details of transactions that did take place, since even small movements can affect whether a dormant filing is appropriate. Having the previous year's filing to hand usually makes the process smoother.
