I worked with Accotx on a HMRC reclaim and overall, they did ultimately deliver on their promise, which I appreciate. The process did take longer than any of us expected, partly due to external delays with the tax authorities, and partly because there were some hiccups in communication and follow-up. However, despite those challenges, they stayed professional and stuck to the original agreed terms. If you’re considering using them, be prepared to stay in regular contact to keep things moving along. They are absolutely capable, have the expertise and willing to work with you, and overall improving their services over time. I would certainly return for any future needs.Posted on Google![]()

Dormant company accounts are the annual accounts a company prepares when it is dormant for Companies House purposes and has had no significant accounting transactions in the period covered. In practice they tend to be much shorter and simpler than the accounts of a trading company, because there is very little activity to report. They are still formal statutory accounts, though, and they still need to be prepared in line with the applicable Companies House rules and filed in the correct way for your company's circumstances.
For Companies House purposes, a company is generally treated as dormant when it has had no significant accounting transactions during the accounting period. The word significant matters here, because some transactions are commonly disregarded for this purpose, and the detail depends on the applicable rules. It is not enough simply to decide the company is dormant because nothing much has happened. The position should be established properly for each accounting period, because a company can move in and out of dormancy and the filing requirement follows the company's actual circumstances.
In most cases, yes. A company that is dormant for Companies House purposes will generally still need to file annual accounts for each relevant period, unless it has been formally dissolved or a specific rule applies to its situation. Being dormant is not the same as being exempt from filing. The form or filing route used can differ from company to company, and not every dormant company can use the same version, so it is worth confirming which approach applies to you rather than assuming one standard form fits every case.
Yes, in most cases a confirmation statement is still required. A Confirmation Statement is a separate Companies House filing from dormant company accounts. It confirms that the information Companies House holds about the company, such as directors, shareholders and registered office details, is correct as at the confirmation date. Filing dormant accounts does not remove the need for a confirmation statement, and filing a confirmation statement does not replace the annual accounts. The two run alongside each other as separate obligations.
No, they are separate concepts with different rules. A company can be dormant for Companies House purposes while still having Corporation Tax matters to deal with, and it can be dormant for HMRC while still having Companies House filing obligations. Filing dormant accounts with Companies House does not automatically notify HMRC that the company is dormant, and it does not automatically change the company's Corporation Tax position. If you want to establish or update dormancy with HMRC, that is a distinct step, and you should take advice on your own circumstances rather than assuming the two statuses move together.
A Corporation Tax Return (CT600) is an HMRC obligation and is completely separate from Dormant Company Accounts Filing at Companies House. Whether a CT600 is required depends on the company's own Corporation Tax position and any notices HMRC has issued. Filing dormant accounts with Companies House does not satisfy a Corporation Tax filing requirement and does not mean the company has automatically stopped having Corporation Tax obligations. Where HMRC has asked for a return, it should be dealt with on its own terms and on its own timeline.
As a starting point, we need the company's basic details, the accounting period being reported on, and confirmation of the company's position during that period, including whether there were any transactions and how any bank accounts or balances should be treated. Company records such as the previous year's accounts and any correspondence from Companies House can also help. The exact information required varies depending on the company's circumstances and the filing route that applies, so we usually confirm what is needed once we understand your company's situation.
It can, and that is exactly why dormancy needs to be assessed carefully rather than assumed. Some transactions are commonly disregarded when deciding whether a company is dormant for Companies House purposes, while others may count and could affect the position. Bank charges, interest, or one-off payments are typical examples where directors are unsure whether they matter. Because the treatment depends on the applicable rules and the nature of the transaction, the sensible approach is to look at what actually happened in the period before deciding which filing route is appropriate.
