I worked with Accotx on a HMRC reclaim and overall, they did ultimately deliver on their promise, which I appreciate. The process did take longer than any of us expected, partly due to external delays with the tax authorities, and partly because there were some hiccups in communication and follow-up. However, despite those challenges, they stayed professional and stuck to the original agreed terms. If you’re considering using them, be prepared to stay in regular contact to keep things moving along. They are absolutely capable, have the expertise and willing to work with you, and overall improving their services over time. I would certainly return for any future needs.Posted on Google![]()

I highly recommend Imran to anyone looking for a reliable and knowledgeable accountant. He helped me sort out a very complicated backlog of accounts and prepared my overdue tax returns with professionalism and attention to detail. Throughout the process, he was incredibly patient, took the time to answer all of my questions, and explained everything clearly. Dormant company accounts are a simplified set of annual accounts prepared for a company that has been dormant for Companies House purposes during the relevant financial period — typically because it had no significant accounting transactions. They present a limited picture rather than the full profit and loss, balance sheet and notes you would expect from a trading company. The exact content depends on the company's circumstances and the applicable Companies House rules, so the right format is not always identical from one dormant company to the next.
For Companies House purposes, a company is generally considered dormant when it has no significant accounting transactions in the period covered by the accounts. Small transactions that are simply part of keeping the company registered may be treated differently from real trading activity, which is why the question is not always answered by asking whether money moved in or out. If your company has issued invoices, bought or sold goods, paid salaries or generated income, it is unlikely to be dormant for Companies House purposes for that period, and full accounts may be needed instead.
Yes, in most cases a dormant company remains registered at Companies House and therefore still has annual filing obligations, unless it has been formally dissolved or a specific rule applies to it. Being dormant changes the type of accounts you file rather than removing the requirement altogether. The same applies to the confirmation statement, which is a separate filing from the accounts. Treating dormant status as an exemption from all company filing is one of the most common misunderstandings, and it can leave a director dealing with reminders they were not expecting.
The confirmation statement is a separate Companies House filing from dormant company accounts, and a dormant company will usually still need to file one. It confirms that the information Companies House holds about the company — such as the registered office address, directors, shareholders and share capital — is correct as at the confirmation date. Preparing dormant accounts does not tick off the confirmation statement, and filing the confirmation statement does not satisfy the accounts requirement. Both need to be handled as part of your annual filing routine.
No. Companies House dormancy and HMRC Corporation Tax dormancy are separate concepts, and a company can be dormant for one purpose without automatically being dormant for the other. Filing dormant accounts with Companies House does not notify HMRC of anything and does not deal with your Corporation Tax position. If you want to change how HMRC treats the company, that is a separate process with HMRC, and you should check your circumstances rather than assuming one status follows from the other.
A Corporation Tax Return is a separate HMRC obligation from any Companies House accounts filing, and whether one is required depends on your company's own position and any correspondence from HMRC. A dormant company may still receive a notice to file, and obligations can differ from what you might expect based on the Companies House side alone. Because the two regimes operate independently, it is worth checking your HMRC status directly rather than relying on the fact that you filed dormant accounts.
In most cases you will need the company's basic details — name, company number, registered office, the accounting reference date and the period being reported on — along with confirmation that there were no significant accounting transactions in that period and details of the directors and company officers. It also helps to know whether anything unusual happened, such as a change of name, a change of accounting reference date, or a share transaction. The more accurate the information supplied, the smoother the dormant company accounts filing is likely to be, whichever route is appropriate for your company.
It can, and that is exactly why dormancy needs to be assessed rather than assumed. Fees charged by a bank, or small payments connected with maintaining the company, are not automatically the same as trading, but they are still transactions and they may affect whether the company qualifies as dormant for Companies House purposes and what the accounts should show. If your company has had any money movement in the period, it is worth having it reviewed before deciding on dormant company accounts filing.
Yes. An accountant or accounts specialist can assess whether dormant accounts are the appropriate route for your company, prepare the accounts in the right form for your period, and handle the Companies House submission where applicable. They can also flag the other annual items that sit alongside the accounts, such as the confirmation statement, so nothing is overlooked. Because the requirements vary with a company's circumstances, professional support is often most valuable when you are unsure which filing route actually fits.
It depends on the stage the company has reached and the process being used to close it. A company that is still registered may still need to keep its accounts and confirmation statement up to date while closure is in progress, and a company that has been formally dissolved no longer files. Because the position changes at different points in the closure process, it is sensible to check your specific situation rather than assuming filing stops the moment you decide to close.
