I worked with Accotx on a HMRC reclaim and overall, they did ultimately deliver on their promise, which I appreciate. The process did take longer than any of us expected, partly due to external delays with the tax authorities, and partly because there were some hiccups in communication and follow-up. However, despite those challenges, they stayed professional and stuck to the original agreed terms. If you’re considering using them, be prepared to stay in regular contact to keep things moving along. They are absolutely capable, have the expertise and willing to work with you, and overall improving their services over time. I would certainly return for any future needs.Posted on Google![]()

I highly recommend Imran to anyone looking for a reliable and knowledgeable accountant. He helped me sort out a very complicated backlog of accounts and prepared my overdue tax returns with professionalism and attention to detail. Throughout the process, he was incredibly patient, took the time to answer all of my questions, and explained everything clearly. He guided me through each step and helped rectify issues that had built up over time, making what felt like an overwhelming situation much more manageable. I'm very pleased with the service I've received and truly appreciate his support. If you need help with your accounts or taxes, I would highly recommend Imran.Posted on Google![]()

Dormant company accounts are the annual accounts a company prepares for Companies House when it has been dormant for Companies House purposes during the accounting period — broadly, where it has had no significant accounting transactions in that period. They are not a way of switching off your filing obligations. They are a specific type of statutory annual accounts prepared under the rules that apply to dormant companies, and the exact format and content depend on the company's circumstances.
For Companies House purposes, a company is generally treated as dormant where it has had no significant accounting transactions during the relevant period. Certain transactions are usually disregarded, so the detail matters and depends on your company's own activity. It is not simply a case of a director deciding the company is dormant because it has not traded — you need to look at what actually happened in the period and apply the applicable rules. Where the position is unclear, we can help you work through it before any accounts are prepared.
In most cases, yes. A company that is dormant for Companies House purposes will generally still need to file annual accounts, even though those accounts will look very different from a trading company's. The only way the obligation disappears is generally where the company has been formally dissolved, or where another specific rule applies. If the company remains registered, it almost always retains annual filing responsibilities.
Yes, in most cases. A confirmation statement is a separate Companies House filing from dormant company accounts. It confirms that the information Companies House holds about your company — such as the directors, the registered office, and the share capital — is still accurate. Filing dormant accounts does not satisfy the confirmation statement requirement, and filing a confirmation statement does not satisfy the accounts requirement. They are two distinct obligations that usually run alongside each other.
No — these are separate concepts, and a company can be dormant for one purpose but not automatically for the other. Companies House dormancy relates to your annual accounts and whether the company had significant accounting transactions. HMRC dormancy relates to your Corporation Tax position and is dealt with through HMRC's own processes. Filing dormant accounts with Companies House does not automatically notify HMRC that your company is dormant, so if you want to change your Corporation Tax position, that is a separate step.
That depends on the company's circumstances and its position with HMRC, rather than on whether it is dormant at Companies House. A Corporation Tax Return is a separate HMRC obligation, and Companies House dormancy does not automatically remove it. If you are unsure whether a return is due, it is worth checking your company's Corporation Tax status with HMRC directly, or with an adviser who can look at your specific situation, rather than assuming that dormant accounts cover it.
We normally need basic company details — the company name and number, the accounting period, the registered office and director information — along with confirmation of whether the company had any transactions in the period and whether the previous year's accounts were filed on a dormant basis. We may also ask about anything unusual that happened, such as a change of registered office or a company name change. The exact information required depends on your company's circumstances, and we will tell you what is needed once we know more about your position.
It can, and this is one of the most common points of confusion. Small transactions such as bank charges are often disregarded when deciding whether a company is dormant for Companies House purposes, but that depends on the rules that apply to your particular period. If the company has had anything beyond minor transactions, it may not qualify as dormant and may need to prepare accounts on a different basis. It is worth reviewing your bank statements for the period before assuming dormant accounts are appropriate.
