I worked with Accotx on a HMRC reclaim and overall, they did ultimately deliver on their promise, which I appreciate. The process did take longer than any of us expected, partly due to external delays with the tax authorities, and partly because there were some hiccups in communication and follow-up. However, despite those challenges, they stayed professional and stuck to the original agreed terms. If you’re considering using them, be prepared to stay in regular contact to keep things moving along. They are absolutely capable, have the expertise and willing to work with you, and overall improving their services over time. I would certainly return for any future needs.Posted on Google![]()

I highly recommend Imran to anyone looking for a reliable and knowledgeable accountant. He helped me sort out a very complicated backlog of accounts and prepared my overdue tax returns with professionalism and attention to detail. Dormant company accounts are the annual accounts a company files with Companies House when it has been dormant for Companies House purposes during the relevant accounting period. They are a formal set of accounts that reflects a company with no significant accounting transactions, rather than the fuller accounts a trading company would normally prepare. The exact content and format depend on the company's circumstances and the applicable Companies House rules, which is why it is worth confirming your position before preparing anything.
For Companies House purposes, a company is generally dormant when it has had no significant accounting transactions during the accounting period. A significant accounting transaction is broadly one that the company would need to record in its accounting records, although certain items — such as fees paid to Companies House and payments made for shares — are treated as outside that definition under the rules. Having a bank account open, or a small number of specific permitted transactions, does not automatically mean the company is not dormant. Because the test is specific, it is worth checking your activity against it before deciding that dormant accounts are appropriate for the year.
In most cases, yes. A company that is dormant for Companies House purposes will generally still need to file annual accounts, unless it has been formally dissolved or a specific rule applies to its situation. Dormant status is not an exemption from filing altogether — it changes the nature of what you file, not whether you file. Missing the deadline can lead to consequences, so it is worth keeping the accounting reference date and filing obligations in view even when there has been no trading activity.
A confirmation statement is a separate Companies House filing from dormant company accounts, and a dormant company will generally still need to file one. It confirms that the information Companies House holds about the company — such as the registered office, directors, shareholders and share capital — is correct as at the confirmation date. If anything has changed, you update it at the same time. It is a common misconception that dormant companies are excused from the confirmation statement; in reality the two filings run alongside each other.
No — they are two separate concepts with separate rules. A company may be dormant for Companies House purposes but not automatically dormant for Corporation Tax purposes with HMRC, and the opposite can also apply. Filing dormant accounts with Companies House does not in itself tell HMRC that the company is dormant, and it does not automatically remove any Corporation Tax responsibilities. If you want to understand your HMRC position, it needs to be assessed separately, and we can help you work through what applies to your company.
Yes. A dormant company generally has different accounting requirements from an active trading company, because there is no trading activity to report in the same way. Dormant accounts are far more limited in scope and reflect a company with no significant accounting transactions. That said, dormant companies should not be treated as a single uniform group — the form and filing route that applies can vary depending on the company's circumstances and the applicable rules, so it is not safe to assume that one particular form or method fits every dormant company.
Usually we need the company name and number, the accounting reference date and the period being reported on, details of the directors, and confirmation of whether there has been any activity that could count as a significant accounting transaction — for example bank interest, bank charges or payments made or received. We may also ask about the company's Corporation Tax position and whether a confirmation statement is due. The more clearly we understand the year in question, the more confidently we can prepare the right accounts for your circumstances.
Companies House operates a late filing penalty regime for accounts that are filed after the deadline, and the amount involved can increase the longer the accounts remain outstanding. Penalties are not something that can be guaranteed to be removed or appealed, and each case is looked at on its own facts. The practical answer is to keep an eye on your accounting reference date and deal with the filing before it becomes overdue. If you are already behind, getting the position reviewed and the accounts prepared promptly is usually the sensible next step.
