I worked with Accotx on a HMRC reclaim and overall, they did ultimately deliver on their promise, which I appreciate. The process did take longer than any of us expected, partly due to external delays with the tax authorities, and partly because there were some hiccups in communication and follow-up. However, despite those challenges, they stayed professional and stuck to the original agreed terms. If you’re considering using them, be prepared to stay in regular contact to keep things moving along. They are absolutely capable, have the expertise and willing to work with you, and overall improving their services over time. I would certainly return for any future needs.Posted on Google![]()

I highly recommend Imran to anyone looking for a reliable and knowledgeable accountant. He helped me sort out a very complicated backlog of accounts and prepared my overdue tax returns with professionalism and attention to detail. Throughout the process, he was incredibly patient, took the time to answer all of my questions, and explained everything clearly. He guided me through each step and helped rectify issues that had built up over time, making what felt like an overwhelming situation much more manageable. Dormant company accounts are the annual accounts a company prepares when it has been dormant for Companies House purposes during an accounting period — broadly, a period with no significant accounting transactions. They are a simplified set of accounts compared with those of a trading company, and they exist so that a dormant limited company can still meet its annual accounts obligation without preparing a full profit and loss account. Whether a company qualifies to file this type of accounts depends on its circumstances and the Companies House rules in force for the period concerned.
For Companies House purposes, a company is generally treated as dormant when it has had no significant accounting transactions during the relevant accounting period. Insignificant transactions — such as bank charges, small amounts of interest received, or the payment of a Companies House filing fee — may not necessarily change that position, but it depends on the nature of the transactions and the applicable rules. A company that has been actively trading, invoicing customers, or holding significant activity during the period is not dormant, even if it is quiet at the moment. We check the position for your specific period before deciding how the accounts should be prepared.
In most cases, yes. A company that is dormant for Companies House purposes generally still has to file annual accounts, along with a confirmation statement, unless it has been formally dissolved or a specific rule applies to it. Dormant status reduces what those accounts contain, but it does not usually remove the filing requirement itself. If you are unsure whether a filing is due for your company, it is worth checking the position early, because the obligation sits with the company and its directors.
Yes, a confirmation statement is a separate Companies House filing from dormant company accounts, and a dormant company will normally still need to file one. A confirmation statement confirms that the information Companies House holds about the company — such as the registered office, directors, shareholders, and share capital — is correct as at the confirmation date. Filing dormant company accounts does not satisfy the confirmation statement requirement, and filing a confirmation statement does not replace the annual accounts. Treating them as two separate annual tasks is the simplest way to stay on top of both.
No, they are two separate concepts with two separate sets of rules. Companies House dormancy is about whether the company had significant accounting transactions in the period, while HMRC dormancy is about the company's Corporation Tax position — for example, whether it is within the charge to Corporation Tax and has any Corporation Tax liability for that period. A company may be dormant for one purpose but not the other. Filing dormant company accounts with Companies House does not automatically tell HMRC that the company is dormant, and it does not by itself resolve any Corporation Tax obligation, so the two positions should be reviewed separately.
It depends on the company's Corporation Tax position rather than on its Companies House dormancy. Where HMRC has issued a notice to deliver a Company Tax Return (CT600), the company is generally required to respond to that notice, even if it believes it has no taxable profits or has been inactive. Corporation Tax Returns are an HMRC obligation and are entirely separate from Dormant Company Accounts Filing at Companies House. Because the rules and notifications can vary from company to company, we always look at your specific HMRC correspondence and status rather than assuming dormancy removes the requirement.
As a starting point, we usually need the company's registered details, its accounting reference date, and the period the accounts cover. To confirm dormancy, we also look at what actually happened in that period — for example, whether the company received income, incurred expenses, held or moved money, or made any payments to or from a bank account. Records of any transactions, however small, help us judge whether they are insignificant for dormancy purposes or whether a fuller set of accounts is needed. If the company is part of a group, has changed its name or address, or has unusual share arrangements, we will also ask about those so the accounts reflect the correct position.
It can, and it does not necessarily stop the company being dormant for Companies House purposes. Small transactions such as bank charges or a modest amount of bank interest are often treated as insignificant, so they may not affect dormancy. However, whether a particular transaction is insignificant depends on its nature, its size relative to the company, and the rules applying to that accounting period. Transactions such as sales income, wages, or regular supplier payments are more likely to mean the company is not dormant for that period. Where transactions exist, we assess them individually and explain which filing approach is appropriate.
