I worked with Accotx on a HMRC reclaim and overall, they did ultimately deliver on their promise, which I appreciate. The process did take longer than any of us expected, partly due to external delays with the tax authorities, and partly because there were some hiccups in communication and follow-up. However, despite those challenges, they stayed professional and stuck to the original agreed terms. If you’re considering using them, be prepared to stay in regular contact to keep things moving along. They are absolutely capable, have the expertise and willing to work with you, and overall improving their services over time. I would certainly return for any future needs.Posted on Google![]()

I highly recommend Imran to anyone looking for a reliable and knowledgeable accountant. He helped me sort out a very complicated backlog of accounts and prepared my overdue tax returns with professionalism and attention to detail. Throughout the process, he was incredibly patient, took the time to answer all of my questions, and explained everything clearly. He guided me through each step and helped rectify issues that had built up over time, making what felt like an overwhelming situation much more manageable. Dormant company accounts are the annual accounts a company prepares for Companies House when it has been dormant for Companies House purposes during the financial period. They are a simplified set of accounts rather than a full trading set, and they generally confirm that the company has not had significant accounting transactions in the period. They are not the same as a Confirmation Statement, which is a separate Companies House filing that confirms your company details are correct, and they are not a Corporation Tax Return, which is a separate HMRC obligation where it applies.
In broad terms, a company is dormant for Companies House purposes when it has had no significant accounting transactions during the relevant accounting period. Admin matters do not usually change that. Certain payments, such as the fee for filing accounts with Companies House and late filing penalties for accounts, are generally disregarded, so making those payments does not normally stop a company being dormant. Anything beyond that, such as paying for goods or services, receiving income, or bank charges, may take the company outside dormancy for Companies House purposes. Because the answer depends on what actually happened in your company, we look at the period in question rather than applying a single rule of thumb.
In most cases, yes. A company that is dormant for Companies House purposes generally still has to file annual accounts for each accounting period, along with a confirmation statement, unless it has been formally dissolved or a specific rule applies to it. Being dormant is not the same as having no filing responsibilities. Filing late can have consequences, so it is better to establish early in the year whether accounts are due for your company and which form or filing route fits, since not every dormant company can use the same one.
A confirmation statement is a separate Companies House filing from dormant company accounts, and it is usually required even when a company is dormant. It confirms that the information Companies House holds about your company, such as the registered office address, directors, shareholders and share capital, is up to date. Filing dormant accounts does not replace it. Keeping both in order means your public record stays accurate and you avoid the kind of avoidable gaps that build up when a company has quietly stopped trading but is still registered.
No. These are two separate concepts with two different bodies. Companies House dormancy relates to whether your company had significant accounting transactions in an accounting period. Corporation Tax dormancy with HMRC is a separate matter, and a company can be dormant for one purpose and not the other. Filing dormant accounts with Companies House does not automatically notify HMRC that your company is dormant, and it does not automatically stop Corporation Tax obligations from arising. If you want to change how your company is treated for Corporation Tax, that needs to be dealt with separately with HMRC.
It depends on your company's circumstances and on how HMRC treats it for Corporation Tax. A Corporation Tax Return is an HMRC filing, not a Companies House one, and it sits entirely apart from dormant company accounts. Some companies that are dormant for Companies House purposes still receive a notice to deliver a return or have other Corporation Tax matters to report. If HMRC has asked your company to file a return, that request needs to be dealt with on its own terms. Because the position varies from company to company, it is worth checking your Corporation Tax status directly rather than assuming that dormant accounts cover it.
They can. Bank charges, bank interest, and payments for goods or services are the kind of transactions that usually take a company outside the definition of dormant for Companies House purposes, which means a simplified dormant accounts filing may no longer be the right route. By contrast, certain payments, including the Companies House accounts filing fee and late filing penalties for accounts, are generally disregarded. If your company has had any activity of this sort, it is best to review the transactions for the period so the accounts prepared reflect what actually happened, rather than treating the company as dormant when it may not qualify.
We normally start with your company name and number, the accounting period we are covering, and details of the company's officers and registered office as held at Companies House. From there we confirm whether the company qualified as dormant for Companies House purposes during the period, and check whether anything happened that needs to be reflected, such as bank charges, interest, or other transactions. If a confirmation statement is also due, we look at the current register information so the two filings are consistent. Once the position is clear, we prepare the appropriate accounts and handle the Companies House filing so your obligations are dealt with together rather than in isolation.
