CT600 Tax Return Filing in Redbourn — Prepare and File Your Company Tax Return with HMRC

CT600 Tax Return Filing is the process of preparing and submitting a company’s Company Tax Return to HMRC, setting out the company’s Corporation Tax position for the period. In Redbourn, companies of all sizes use professional support to pull together the figures from their accounting records, work through the tax adjustments that turn accounting profit into taxable profit, and submit an accurate CT600 on time. It is important to be clear about what a CT600 is not: it is a separate obligation from the statutory accounts filed with Companies House, and separate again from a Confirmation Statement or a VAT Return. A CT600 reports the Corporation Tax position to HMRC, while statutory accounts are the formal year-end accounts filed at Companies House. Professional CT600 Tax Return Filing brings clarity and convenience to that process — the records are reviewed, the Corporation Tax computation is prepared, the return is checked before submission, and the filing is handled with HMRC so you can get on with running the business.

I worked with Accotx on a HMRC reclaim and overall, they did ultimately deliver on their promise, which I appreciate. The process did take longer than any of us expected, partly due to external delays with the tax authorities, and partly because there were some hiccups in communication and follow-up. However, despite those challenges, they stayed professional and stuck to the original agreed terms. If you’re considering using them, be prepared to stay in regular contact to keep things moving along. They are absolutely capable, have the expertise and willing to work with you, and overall improving their services over time. I would certainly return for any future needs.

What Is a Micro-Entity CT600, and How Does It Relate to Corporation Tax?

There is no separate HMRC form called a “micro-entity CT600”. The CT600 is simply the Company Tax Return that a company submits to HMRC to report its Corporation Tax position, and the same form is used whatever the size of the company, including those that prepare accounts under the micro-entity regime. A micro-entity company can still have Corporation Tax obligations, and where HMRC has issued a notice to deliver a Company Tax Return, or the company otherwise needs to file one, that return is submitted on form CT600. The CT600 itself is distinct from the statutory accounts filed with Companies House, even though the two are prepared from the same underlying accounting records. The company’s accounts, bookkeeping and supporting records typically form the starting point for the Corporation Tax calculation, but the figures used for Corporation Tax are not automatically the same as the accounting figures. Taxable profit can differ from accounting profit because the Corporation Tax computation may require adjustments — for example, items that are allowable for accounting purposes but treated differently for tax, or income and expenditure that fall into a different period for tax. It is also worth separating three things that are often confused: filing the CT600, calculating the Corporation Tax liability, and paying any Corporation Tax that is due. These are related but distinct steps, and whether a micro-entity company actually owes Corporation Tax depends on its own circumstances and taxable position, not simply on its size or accounting framework.

That is where Micro Entity Accounts can take the weight off. We support companies in Redbourn and beyond with CT600 preparation, Corporation Tax computation work, tax adjustment review, and submission of the Company Tax Return to HMRC, keeping the process clear and the pricing transparent. A CT600 is the form used to submit a Company Tax Return to HMRC. It sets out a company's Corporation Tax position for an accounting period, including the company's details, the period covered, the figures from the Corporation Tax computation and the resulting Corporation Tax liability, together with other information HMRC requires as part of the return. It is an HMRC document and is not the same as the annual accounts filed with Companies House.

A company generally needs to file a Company Tax Return where HMRC has issued a notice to deliver one, and there are other circumstances in which a return may be required. Most active limited companies with Corporation Tax obligations will file a CT600 covering their accounting period. If a company is dormant or has not been trading, its position can differ, so it is worth checking the specific circumstances rather than assuming either way.

Yes — they are separate documents with separate purposes and separate recipients. Statutory accounts are the formal year-end accounts, prepared under the applicable accounting framework and filed at Companies House. A CT600 is a Company Tax Return submitted to HMRC to report the Corporation Tax position. The two are usually prepared from the same accounting records, which is why they are often dealt with together, but filing one does not satisfy the obligation to file the other.

The Corporation Tax computation is the working paper that starts with the company's accounting profit and applies the tax adjustments needed to arrive at the taxable profit and the resulting Corporation Tax liability. The CT600 is the return form on which those figures are reported to HMRC. In practice the computation is the thinking and the CT600 is the filing, so a well-prepared return depends on a properly prepared computation behind it.

Possibly — it depends on the company's circumstances rather than its size. There is no separate “micro-entity CT600u201d; a micro-entity company that is required to file a Company Tax Return uses the same CT600 form as any other company. Preparing micro-entity accounts does not by itself settle the Corporation Tax position, and it does not automatically determine the company's Corporation Tax liability or mean that no return is needed.

No. Filing the return and paying any Corporation Tax due are separate obligations. The CT600 reports the company's position to HMRC, while payment is a separate transaction. A company can file its return and owe nothing, or owe Corporation Tax and still need to submit the return — and the timing of filing and the timing of payment do not necessarily align. It is worth keeping both in view so neither is overlooked.

Typically you will need the company's accounting records and finalised figures for the period, the statutory accounts or draft accounts, details of income and allowable expenditure, capital allowances information, and any other items that affect the tax position, such as disallowable expenses or untaxed income. Details of any earlier losses, group matters or reliefs claimed may also be relevant. Because taxable profit can differ from accounting profit, the quality of the underlying records has a direct bearing on how straightforward the CT600 is to prepare.

Filing after the due date can lead to penalties and interest from HMRC, and the amount usually depends on how late the return is and the company's circumstances. Rather than relying on general assumptions, it is better to check the specific position and, if a return is already overdue, to deal with it promptly and consider whether any reasonable excuse applies. Getting the return prepared and submitted as early as the figures allow reduces the risk of the deadline becoming a problem.
