CT600 Tax Return Filing in Llangollen – Prepare and File Your Company Tax Return with HMRC

CT600 Tax Return Filing is the process of preparing your company’s Corporation Tax position and submitting a Company Tax Return to HMRC. It is a separate obligation from the statutory accounts you file with Companies House, even though the two are built from the same underlying accounting records. Professional support with CT600 Tax Return Filing means your accounting figures are reviewed, any tax adjustments are considered, and the return is completed clearly and accurately before it is submitted. For company directors in Llangollen and the surrounding areas, that means less time wrestling with HMRC’s online filing systems and more confidence that the figures reported reflect the company’s actual trading position. Good CT600 preparation also means the working papers behind the return are organised, so you have a clear record of how the taxable profit was arrived at if questions arise later.

I worked with Accotx on a HMRC reclaim and overall, they did ultimately deliver on their promise, which I appreciate. The process did take longer than any of us expected, partly due to external delays with the tax authorities, and partly because there were some hiccups in communication and follow-up. However, despite those challenges, they stayed professional and stuck to the original agreed terms. If you’re considering using them, be prepared to stay in regular contact to keep things moving along. They are absolutely capable, have the expertise and willing to work with you, and overall improving their services over time. I would certainly return for any future needs.

What Is a Micro-Entity CT600 and Does It Apply to Your Company?

There is no separate official “micro-entity CT600”. The CT600 is HMRC’s standard Company Tax Return form, and it is used by companies of all sizes, including those that meet the micro-entity criteria for accounting purposes. A micro-entity company can still have Corporation Tax obligations, and where HMRC requires a Company Tax Return, that return is submitted on the same CT600 form as any other limited company. It is important to separate this from the accounts a micro-entity prepares: those statutory accounts are filed with Companies House, while the CT600 is filed with HMRC, and they serve different purposes even when they are prepared from the same bookkeeping. The accounting records and the figures in the accounts often form the starting point for the Corporation Tax calculation, but the taxable profit is not automatically the same as the accounting profit. The Corporation Tax computation may require adjustments — for example, to add back disallowable expenses or to account for items treated differently for tax purposes — before the taxable profit, and therefore any Corporation Tax liability, can be determined. Whether a micro-entity actually owes Corporation Tax depends entirely on its own circumstances and taxable position, and filing a CT600 is not the same thing as paying Corporation Tax. Filing is the reporting obligation; payment, where a liability exists, is a separate matter with its own timetable and arrangements.

A CT600 is the form HMRC uses for a Company Tax Return. It is the document through which a limited company reports its Corporation Tax position for an accounting period — the income, expenses, profits and reliefs that feed into the Corporation Tax calculation. The CT600 is filed with HMRC, usually online, and is accompanied by supporting information such as the Corporation Tax computation and, where relevant, a copy of the statutory accounts. It is not a Companies House document, and filing it does not satisfy any Companies House obligation.

The Corporation Tax computation is the working document that starts with the company's accounting profit and adjusts it to arrive at the taxable profit — adding back items that are not allowable for tax, deducting items treated differently for tax purposes, and applying any available reliefs. The CT600 is the official return form on which the resulting figures are reported to HMRC. In practice the two are prepared together: the computation supports the figures entered on the CT600, and HMRC may ask to see the computation and the underlying records.

Yes — they are two separate filings. Statutory accounts are prepared under an applicable accounting framework, such as FRS 105 or FRS 102, and are filed with Companies House in line with the company's reporting requirements. The CT600 is a tax return filed with HMRC. The two will usually share the same underlying accounting records, and the accounts are often the starting point for the tax computation, but the documents serve different purposes, go to different organisations, and can have different deadlines. Accounts preparation and Corporation Tax filing are related processes, but they are not the same process.

Possibly, depending on the company's circumstances. Accounting size — whether a company qualifies as a micro-entity for accounts purposes — does not decide whether a Company Tax Return is required. That depends on factors such as whether the company is within the charge to Corporation Tax, whether it is active for tax purposes, and whether HMRC has issued a notice to file. Many micro-entity companies do need to file a CT600, and where a notice to file has been issued, a return is expected even if no Corporation Tax is ultimately payable. If you are unsure about your own position, it is worth confirming it rather than assuming.

The starting point is usually the profit shown in the accounts, but that figure is not automatically the taxable profit. The Corporation Tax computation adjusts it — for example, by adding back expenditure that is not deductible for tax purposes, by dealing with income or gains that are taxed differently, and by claiming reliefs such as capital allowances in place of accounting depreciation. The result is the taxable profit on which any Corporation Tax liability is based. Accounting profit and taxable profit can therefore differ, sometimes significantly, from one accounting period to the next.

No — filing and payment are separate obligations. Submitting a CT600 tells HMRC how the company's Corporation Tax position has been calculated. If the computation shows a liability that has not already been paid, that liability then needs to be settled through a separate payment to HMRC, following its own timetable. It is quite possible to file a return on time and still owe Corporation Tax, or to have paid Corporation Tax before the return is filed. It is also possible for a filed return to show no liability at all, depending on the company's taxable position.

Typically you will need the accounting records for the period, a trial balance or draft accounts, details of income and expenditure, records supporting any items that need adjusting for tax purposes, information about fixed assets and any capital allowances claims, and details of any reliefs being claimed. We will also need basic company information such as the company number, the accounting period dates and any relevant HMRC references. We will confirm exactly what is required once we understand your company's circumstances, and we can often work from records you already hold.

Yes. A company can appoint an accountant or agent to prepare the Corporation Tax computation and submit the Company Tax Return on its behalf, and the company remains responsible for the accuracy of what is filed. Working with someone who handles CT600 Tax Return Filing regularly means the adjustments are considered properly, the figures are presented consistently, and the submission is made through the correct channel. It also means you have a single point of contact if HMRC raises a query about the return after it has been submitted.
