CT600 Tax Return Filing in Longridge — Prepare and File Your Company Tax Return with HMRC

CT600 Tax Return Filing is how a UK company reports its Corporation Tax position to HMRC. It involves taking the figures from your accounting records and statutory accounts, working through the tax adjustments needed to arrive at taxable profit, and submitting a completed Company Tax Return (CT600) online. It is a separate exercise from filing statutory accounts with Companies House, even though the two are closely linked — your accounts provide the starting point, while the CT600 and supporting Corporation Tax computation explain how those figures translate into a tax liability, a loss, or a nil position. Professional support in Longridge can help you gather the right information, prepare the computation, and file accurately and on time, so you can focus on running the business rather than wrestling with HMRC’s online systems. Pricing is clear and transparent, with fixed-fee options available for straightforward company year ends.

I worked with Accotx on a HMRC reclaim and overall, they did ultimately deliver on their promise, which I appreciate. The process did take longer than any of us expected, partly due to external delays with the tax authorities, and partly because there were some hiccups in communication and follow-up. However, despite those challenges, they stayed professional and stuck to the original agreed terms. If you’re considering using them, be prepared to stay in regular contact to keep things moving along. They are absolutely capable, have the expertise and willing to work with you, and overall improving their services over time. I would certainly return for any future needs.

What Is a Micro-Entity CT600 and How Does It Fit With Your Company Tax Return?

There is no separate “micro-entity CT600” form. The CT600 is the Company Tax Return used by UK companies generally, and a company that also happens to be classified as a micro-entity still uses the same CT600 when it needs to submit a Company Tax Return to HMRC. The micro-entity label describes the accounting framework a company may use when preparing its statutory accounts — it does not change the tax return itself. It is worth separating the two exercises clearly. Statutory accounts are prepared under an accounting framework and filed with Companies House; the CT600 is filed with HMRC and reports the company’s Corporation Tax position. The accounting figures in your records and accounts usually act as the starting point for the Corporation Tax computation, but taxable profit is not automatically the same as accounting profit. Adjustments may be needed — for example, to add back disallowable expenses, account for capital allowances, or adjust for income and costs treated differently for tax purposes — so the taxable profit, and any Corporation Tax due, can differ from the profit shown in the accounts. Micro-entities therefore have specific accounting considerations, but those considerations do not by themselves determine Corporation Tax liability. Filing a CT600 is also not the same as paying Corporation Tax: the return reports the position, while payment is a separate obligation. And not every micro-entity will owe Corporation Tax; whether anything is payable depends on the company’s own circumstances and taxable position.

A CT600 is the form HMRC uses for a Company Tax Return. It is the formal document through which a company reports its Corporation Tax position for an accounting period, including figures such as turnover, trading profits, deductions and the calculation of any Corporation Tax due or any losses to carry forward. In practice, the CT600 is filed online and is usually accompanied by a Corporation Tax computation and a copy of the company's statutory accounts, which together explain how the reported figures were arrived at.

Generally, a UK company that is within the charge to Corporation Tax will need to file a Company Tax Return for each accounting period, and HMRC can also require a return to be filed in other circumstances, such as where a notice to deliver a return has been issued. Whether a specific company has a filing obligation depends on its own situation, and dormant or newly incorporated companies may have different requirements. If you are unsure whether a CT600 is needed for a particular period, it is worth checking your position rather than assuming.

Yes. Statutory accounts are prepared for the members and filed with Companies House under the applicable accounting framework, and they show the company's financial position and performance in accounting terms. The CT600 is a tax return filed with HMRC. The two are related because the accounts often provide the starting figures for the tax computation, but they are separate documents with separate filing obligations, separate recipients and separate purposes. Filing one does not automatically satisfy the other.

They are closely connected but not the same thing. The CT600 is the return itself — the structured set of boxes and disclosures submitted to HMRC. The Corporation Tax computation is the working paper that starts from accounting profit and sets out the adjustments needed to reach taxable profit, such as adding back disallowable expenditure, adjusting for non-taxable income and applying capital allowances, before applying the relevant tax treatment. The computation supports the figures entered on the CT600 and explains how the liability was calculated.

A micro-entity is defined by reference to the size thresholds that determine which accounting framework and disclosures a company can use when preparing its accounts, so the label does not create a separate or different tax return. If a micro-entity company is within the charge to Corporation Tax, or has been issued with a notice to deliver a return, it will generally need to file a Company Tax Return in the same way as other companies. That said, not every micro-entity will actually owe Corporation Tax — whether anything is payable depends on the company's taxable position, and the filing obligation and the payment obligation are separate matters.

These are two different requirements with two different recipients. A CT600 is submitted to HMRC, while statutory accounts are filed with Companies House, and each has its own obligations and timeframes. The tax return is normally supported by accounts and a computation, so in practice the two processes are usually prepared together even though they are filed separately. If you are unsure what needs to go where, and by when, it is best to check your company's position before submitting anything.

The company's accounting profit is the usual starting point, but it is not automatically the taxable profit. Adjustments may be required — for example, adding back expenditure that is not allowable for tax, deducting income that is not taxable, and claiming reliefs or allowances such as capital allowances on qualifying assets. Once these adjustments are made, the resulting taxable profit is used to determine the Corporation Tax position. Because the rules around what is allowable depend on the nature of the expense and the company's circumstances, the computation is often the part of the process that benefits most from professional review.

No. Filing a Company Tax Return and paying Corporation Tax are separate obligations with their own timescales. Submitting your CT600 tells HMRC what your company's position is; paying any Corporation Tax due is a distinct step and needs to be dealt with separately. A company might file a return showing no tax payable, or a loss to carry forward, and still have a filing obligation. Keeping good Corporation Tax records and diarising both the filing and any payment dates helps avoid muddles later.

If a Company Tax Return is filed after the deadline, HMRC may issue penalties and interest can be charged on unpaid tax, and the consequences can build the longer the return remains outstanding. The exact outcome depends on the circumstances, including whether any tax is outstanding and how late the filing is, so no two situations are identical. The practical answer is to file as early as you can and to tell HMRC promptly if you expect a delay. If you have missed a date, professional help with catching up and getting the return submitted can reduce the ongoing administration.

Yes. Micro Entity Accounts supports company directors and owners in Longridge and the surrounding area with CT600 Tax Return Filing — preparing the Company Tax Return, building the Corporation Tax computation, reviewing tax adjustments against your accounts and records, and submitting the CT600 to HMRC. If you are unsure what information is needed or want help getting your Corporation Tax records in order before the year end, get in touch and we can talk through your options.
