CT600 Tax Return Filing in Lichfield — Prepare and File Your Company Tax Return with HMRC

CT600 Tax Return Filing is the process of preparing and submitting a company’s Company Tax Return to HMRC, setting out the company’s Corporation Tax position for the accounting period. If your company is based in Lichfield or anywhere across the UK, professional support with CT600 Tax Return Filing helps you pull together the right figures, work through the tax adjustments that turn accounting profit into taxable profit, and submit an accurate return through the correct HMRC channel. It is important to be clear about what the CT600 is and is not: the CT600 is a tax return submitted to HMRC, whereas statutory accounts are a separate filing obligation, usually delivered to Companies House. The two are connected because the figures in your accounts generally feed into the Corporation Tax computation, but they are prepared for different purposes, filed with different bodies, and can follow different formats. Professional CT600 Tax Return Filing gives you a second pair of eyes on the details, a clear record of how the taxable profit was arrived at, and the convenience of having the return prepared and filed on your behalf so you can get on with running the business.

We worked with a few different accountants before finally settling with Accotax, and we’re really glad we did. Their team is great. Abdul is responsive and easy to reach whenever I have a question, which makes a big difference. They take the time to understand how our business works and what our needs are. They are very knowledgeable, and when they don’t have the answer straight away, they take the time to look into it and get back to us quickly. Anum, who looks after our account on a day-to-day basis, including reconciling invoices and preparing the annual accounts, is amazing. She is professional, efficient, and follows the processes we have put in place together. She's also very quickin getting back to us whenever needed. We’re very happy to work with her and hope to continue doing so for as long as possible. Overall, Accotax has made our accounting experience much smoother and easier. We see them as a long-term partner as our business continues to grow. I would 100% recommend them.

I have really impressed to date with all dealings with Accotax highly enough. From day one, they've made what can often be a complicated and stressful part of running a business feel straightforward and hassle-free. A special mention has to go to Anum, who has been friendly, incredibly responsive, and genuinely cares about providing the best possible service. No question is ever too much trouble, and she consistently goes above and beyond to make sure everything is dealt with efficiently. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend you to anyone looking for an accountant they can genuinely trust.

What Is a Micro-Entity CT600 and How Does It Relate to CT600 Tax Return Filing?

There is no separate official form called a “micro-entity CT600”. The CT600 is the standard Company Tax Return used by companies to report their Corporation Tax position to HMRC, and it applies to companies generally — whether they are large, small or micro-entities. What differs for a micro-entity is not the tax return itself but the accounting side of things. A company that qualifies as a micro-entity may prepare and file simpler statutory accounts, often under the FRS 105 framework, and those accounts are then delivered to Companies House as a separate filing obligation. The CT600 is not part of that Companies House filing. It is submitted to HMRC, and it reports the company’s Corporation Tax position for the period. In many cases the accounting figures from the micro-entity accounts are used as the starting point for the Corporation Tax computation, but the two figures do not always match. Corporation Tax calculations can require adjustments — for example, for disallowable expenditure, capital allowances, or income and expenses treated differently for tax purposes — so the taxable profit reported to HMRC may differ from the accounting profit shown in the accounts. It is also worth noting that preparing accounts under a particular framework, such as FRS 105, does not by itself determine a company’s Corporation Tax liability. Accounts preparation and Corporation Tax filing are related but separate processes. Just as importantly, not every micro-entity will owe Corporation Tax; whether tax is payable depends on the company’s own circumstances and taxable position. And filing a CT600 is not the same as paying Corporation Tax — the filing obligation and any payment obligation are handled separately, even where they relate to the same accounting period. Our role in CT600 Tax Return Filing is to help you work through those distinctions clearly, so the return you send to HMRC reflects your company’s position accurately and is supported by a computation you can follow.

The CT600 is the Company Tax Return form used to report a company's Corporation Tax position to HMRC. It captures details such as the company's accounting period, its turnover and trading activity, the figures that make up the Corporation Tax computation, and the resulting Corporation Tax liability or repayment position. It is submitted to HMRC, not to Companies House, and it forms the basis of the company's Corporation Tax record for that period.

Yes, and the distinction matters. Statutory accounts are prepared under an applicable accounting framework and filed with Companies House as part of the company's public filing obligations. The CT600 is a tax return submitted to HMRC for Corporation Tax purposes. Although the figures in the accounts are usually the starting point for the tax computation that supports the CT600, the two documents serve different purposes, are filed with different bodies, and may not show identical numbers once tax adjustments are applied.

It can, yes. Being a micro-entity affects the accounting framework and disclosure requirements for the statutory accounts; it does not remove a company's Corporation Tax obligations where those obligations apply. A company that is within the scope of Corporation Tax and has been asked by HMRC to deliver a Company Tax Return will generally need to submit a CT600, regardless of size. Equally, filing a CT600 does not automatically mean Corporation Tax is payable — that depends on the company's taxable position and circumstances.

No. They work together but are not the same thing. The Corporation Tax computation is the working document that starts with the accounting profit shown in the accounts and applies the necessary tax adjustments to arrive at the taxable profit and the resulting Corporation Tax figure. The CT600 is the return form on which those results are reported to HMRC. In practice, a well-prepared CT600 is supported by a computation that shows how the taxable profit was reached, so the figures are clear and can be followed if HMRC raises a query.

The starting point is usually the accounting profit from the statutory accounts. From there, the Corporation Tax computation adds back expenditure that is not allowable for tax purposes, deducts items that are treated more favourably or differently for tax, accounts for capital allowances rather than accounting depreciation, and deals with any income or expenses that fall outside the taxable trading result. The result is the taxable profit. Because these adjustments vary from company to company, the gap between accounting profit and taxable profit can be significant in some years and minimal in others.

No — they are separate obligations. Filing a CT600 is about reporting the company's Corporation Tax position to HMRC. Paying Corporation Tax is about settling any liability that arises from that position. A company can file its return on time and still have a payment obligation to meet, and the due dates for filing and for payment are not necessarily the same. It is worth keeping both in view so you are not caught out by one while focusing on the other.

Yes. A company can authorise an agent to prepare and submit its Company Tax Return to HMRC, and many businesses choose to do exactly that. The agent typically handles the CT600 preparation, builds the Corporation Tax computation, reviews the tax adjustments and files the return on the company's behalf. The company remains responsible for the accuracy of the information provided and for any resulting tax position, which is why good communication between you and whoever prepares the return is essential.

HMRC can apply sanctions when a Company Tax Return is delivered late, and these can include financial penalties that increase the longer the return remains outstanding, as well as interest on unpaid tax. The exact consequences depend on the circumstances, including how late the return is and whether any tax remains unpaid, so it is not possible to give a single answer that fits every case. If you think a return is going to be late, it is usually better to speak to HMRC or your accountant as early as possible rather than waiting.
