We worked with a few different accountants before finally settling with Accotax, and we’re really glad we did. Their team is great. Abdul is responsive and easy to reach whenever I have a question, which makes a big difference. They take the time to understand how our business works and what our needs are. They are very knowledgeable, and when they don’t have the answer straight away, they take the time to look into it and get back to us quickly. Anum, who looks after our account on a day-to-day basis, including reconciling invoices and preparing the annual accounts, is amazing. She is professional, efficient, and follows the processes we have put in place together. She's also very quickin getting back to us whenever needed. We’re very happy to work with her and hope to continue doing so for as long as possible. Overall, Accotax has made our accounting experience much smoother and easier. We see them as a long-term partner as our business continues to grow. I would 100% recommend them.

I have really impressed to date with all dealings with Accotax highly enough. From day one, they've made what can often be a complicated and stressful part of running a business feel straightforward and hassle-free. A special mention has to go to Anum, who has been friendly, incredibly responsive, and genuinely cares about providing the best possible service. No question is ever too much trouble, and she consistently goes above and beyond to make sure everything is dealt with efficiently. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend you to anyone looking for an accountant they can genuinely trust.

What Is a Micro-Entity CT600 and How Does It Relate to Your Company Tax Return?

There is no separate official “micro-entity CT600” form. A CT600 is the Company Tax Return used by companies to report their Corporation Tax position to HMRC, and it is the same return whether the company is large, small or a micro-entity. Where a micro-entity company has Corporation Tax obligations, or HMRC has asked it to file, it will generally need to submit a Company Tax Return. That return is separate from the statutory accounts filed with Companies House, although the accounting records and accounts are often the starting point for the figures used in the Corporation Tax calculation. Taxable profit can differ from accounting profit, because the calculation may require adjustments such as adding back disallowable expenses, deducting non-taxable income, or replacing depreciation with claims for capital allowances. Whether any Corporation Tax is actually payable depends on the company’s own circumstances and taxable position, and filing the CT600 is a separate obligation from paying any Corporation Tax that is due.

A CT600 is the form used to submit a Company Tax Return to HMRC. It sets out the company's Corporation Tax position for an accounting period, including details of income, chargeable gains, deductions and reliefs, and the amount of Corporation Tax that is due or repayable. It is filed with HMRC, not with Companies House, and it is the return that HMRC uses to assess the company's Corporation Tax position for that period.

A company normally needs to file a Company Tax Return if it is liable to Corporation Tax, or if HMRC has issued a notice asking it to file. Whether a particular company has to file for a given accounting period depends on its circumstances, including whether it has traded, received income or been told to submit a return. If you are unsure about your own position, it is worth checking before assuming no return is required.

Yes, and the distinction matters. Statutory accounts are prepared under an applicable accounting framework and filed with Companies House as part of your company's public filing obligations. The CT600 is a Company Tax Return filed with HMRC to report the Corporation Tax position. Filing accounts with Companies House does not satisfy your Corporation Tax filing obligation, and filing a CT600 does not replace your accounts filing. They are related but separate processes.

No. The Corporation Tax computation is the working that starts with your accounting profit and adjusts it to arrive at taxable profit, for example by adding back disallowable expenses, removing non-taxable income, and reflecting capital allowances and available reliefs. The CT600 is the return itself, which reports the figures that come out of that computation along with other information HMRC requires. In practice the two are prepared together, but they are not the same document.

It may well do. There is no separate micro-entity version of the return, so a micro-entity uses the same CT600 as any other company. A micro-entity can still have Corporation Tax obligations and may need to submit a Company Tax Return, depending on its circumstances and whether HMRC has required one. Choosing a simpler accounting framework for your accounts does not by itself settle your Corporation Tax position or determine whether tax is payable.

No. The filing obligation and the payment obligation are separate. Submitting the CT600 reports your Corporation Tax position to HMRC, while any Corporation Tax that is payable has to be paid under the payment rules that apply to your company. It is possible to have filed the return and still owe tax, so it is sensible to plan for both the filing and the payment rather than treating one as covering the other.

In broad terms, the preparer needs your accounting records and accounts for the period, details of income and expenses, information about capital expenditure and any capital allowances claims, details of losses carried forward or brought back, and any reliefs you intend to claim. Company registration details, the accounting period dates and details of any earlier returns are also useful. The more complete and organised your records are, the smoother the CT600 Tax Return Filing process tends to be.

Taxable profit usually starts from the accounting profit shown in your accounts, but it is not simply copied across. Adjustments may be needed, such as adding back expenses that are not allowable for tax, deducting income that is not taxable, and dealing with depreciation separately from capital allowances. Reliefs and losses can also affect the final figure. The result is the taxable profit used to work out the Corporation Tax position reported on the CT600, which is why accounts preparation and Corporation Tax filing are related but distinct tasks.
