CT600 Tax Return Filing in Epsom: Prepare and File Your Company Tax Return with HMRC

CT600 Tax Return Filing is how a UK company reports its Corporation Tax position to HMRC. If your company is based in Epsom or the surrounding Surrey area, professional support can take the friction out of that process — from pulling together the figures behind your accounting profit, through the tax adjustments that turn it into taxable profit, to submitting an accurate Company Tax Return on your behalf. It is important to be clear that the CT600 is a separate filing obligation from the statutory accounts you send to Companies House, even though the two are prepared from the same underlying records. A well-handled CT600 Tax Return Filing service gives you clarity on what has been reported and why, keeps your Corporation Tax records organised, and reduces the time you spend wrestling with forms instead of running your business. Pricing is typically offered on a clear, transparent basis so you know what is involved before work begins.

I worked with Accotx on a HMRC reclaim and overall, they did ultimately deliver on their promise, which I appreciate. The process did take longer than any of us expected, partly due to external delays with the tax authorities, and partly because there were some hiccups in communication and follow-up. However, despite those challenges, they stayed professional and stuck to the original agreed terms. If you’re considering using them, be prepared to stay in regular contact to keep things moving along. They are absolutely capable, have the expertise and willing to work with you, and overall improving their services over time. I would certainly return for any future needs.

What Is a Micro-Entity CT600? How Small Companies Approach Corporation Tax Filing

There is no separate official “micro-entity CT600” form. The CT600 is the standard Company Tax Return used by companies to report their Corporation Tax position to HMRC, and a company that qualifies as a micro-entity for accounts purposes — meaning it meets the relevant size criteria and prepares its accounts under a micro-entity framework — still reports to HMRC on the same CT600. Whether a micro-entity company needs to file a CT600 depends on its circumstances; many do, and where a return is required it must be prepared and submitted to HMRC. It is worth separating two things that are often confused: the CT600 itself, which is the tax return submitted to HMRC, and the statutory accounts, which are a separate filing obligation to Companies House. The accounts and accounting records are usually the starting point for the Corporation Tax calculation, but the figure that matters for Corporation Tax is taxable profit, not simply the accounting profit shown in the accounts. That is because a Corporation Tax computation may require adjustments — for example adding back disallowable expenditure or adjusting for items treated differently for tax purposes — before the taxable profit and any resulting Corporation Tax liability are determined. A micro-entity company will not necessarily owe Corporation Tax, since that depends on its taxable position and its circumstances; and even where a return is filed, filing the CT600 and paying any Corporation Tax due are separate obligations that follow their own timetables. Choosing a micro-entity accounting framework does not by itself determine a company’s Corporation Tax liability.

A CT600 is the form HMRC uses for a Company Tax Return. It sets out a company's Corporation Tax position for an accounting period — the figures that support the calculation, the taxable profit or loss position, and any Corporation Tax due — and is submitted to HMRC electronically. It is a tax return, not a set of accounts, and completing it properly means working from accurate accounting records and a Corporation Tax computation rather than simply copying numbers across from the accounts.

Yes, and the two are frequently confused. Statutory accounts are prepared for shareholders, lenders and Companies House, and are normally filed annually with the registrar. A CT600 is a Company Tax Return submitted to HMRC that reports the company's Corporation Tax position. They are prepared from the same underlying records and are usually worked on together, but they are separate documents with separate filing obligations and separate recipients, so filing one does not discharge the other.

No. The Corporation Tax computation is the calculation that starts with the company's accounting profit and applies the relevant tax adjustments to arrive at taxable profit and the resulting Corporation Tax liability. The CT600 is the return form on which that result — and the figures behind it — are reported to HMRC. In practice the computation and the return are prepared hand in hand, because HMRC expects the figures on the CT600 to be supported by the calculation.

It depends on the company's circumstances rather than on its size classification alone. Small and micro companies commonly do have Corporation Tax obligations and may need to file a Company Tax Return, but that is not automatic for every company, and being a micro-entity for accounts purposes does not exempt a company from Corporation Tax reporting. It also does not mean the company necessarily owes Corporation Tax — whether tax is payable depends on the taxable position for the period. Checking your company's specific position before assuming either way is the sensible approach.

The CT600 and the statutory accounts are separate filings, so submitting a Company Tax Return to HMRC does not in itself satisfy the requirement to file accounts at Companies House, and vice versa. In most cases the accounts and accounting records are needed as the starting point for the Corporation Tax computation that supports the return, so even though the filings are independent, the work behind them is closely connected. If you are unsure what your company needs to file and by when, take advice on your specific position.

The starting point is the accounting profit shown in the company's accounts, which is then adjusted through a Corporation Tax computation to arrive at taxable profit. Typical adjustments include adding back expenditure that is not allowable for tax purposes, deducting items that are treated differently for tax, and accounting for items such as capital allowances on qualifying expenditure. The result can be higher or lower than the accounting profit, which is why simply reading a profit figure off the accounts is not a reliable way to work out what is taxable.

No — they are two distinct obligations. Filing the CT600 is about reporting the company's Corporation Tax position to HMRC accurately and within the applicable time limit. Paying any Corporation Tax that is due is a separate process on its own timetable. A company can file its return and find that no tax is payable for the period, just as a company can have a tax liability to settle independently of when the return is submitted.

You will generally need the accounting records and accounts for the period, a breakdown of income and expenditure, details of any items that need adjusting for tax purposes, capital expenditure information to support any capital allowances claim, and details of any tax already paid or credited. Information carried forward from earlier periods, such as losses, may also be relevant. Behind the figures on the form is a body of supporting material, which is why keeping Corporation Tax records organised through the year makes CT600 Tax Return Filing noticeably smoother when the deadline approaches.
