CT600 Tax Return Filing in Cheadle — Prepare and File Your Company Tax Return with HMRC

CT600 Tax Return Filing is the process of preparing your company’s Corporation Tax position and submitting a Company Tax Return (the CT600) to HMRC. For directors in Cheadle, it is one of the most important annual filing obligations a limited company has — and it is completely separate from the statutory accounts you file with Companies House. The CT600 reports figures such as turnover, allowable expenses, and taxable profit, and it needs to be supported by a clear Corporation Tax computation that starts with your accounting profit and adjusts it where the tax rules require. Professional CT600 Tax Return Filing gives you a straightforward route through that work: your bookkeeping and accounts are reviewed, the tax adjustments are identified and explained, the computation is prepared, and the return is submitted to HMRC accurately and on time. You get clarity on what your company owes, a properly documented file, and the convenience of having an experienced team handle the technical detail — all with clear, transparent pricing and no jargon.

I worked with Accotx on a HMRC reclaim and overall, they did ultimately deliver on their promise, which I appreciate. The process did take longer than any of us expected, partly due to external delays with the tax authorities, and partly because there were some hiccups in communication and follow-up. However, despite those challenges, they stayed professional and stuck to the original agreed terms. If you’re considering using them, be prepared to stay in regular contact to keep things moving along. They are absolutely capable, have the expertise and willing to work with you, and overall improving their services over time. I would certainly return for any future needs.

What a Micro-Entity Company Should Know About the CT600

There is no separate official “micro-entity CT600” — the CT600 is the same Company Tax Return form used by companies generally, and how much of it applies to you depends on your company’s circumstances rather than its size. Small and micro-entity companies do, however, often have particular accounting and tax considerations: they may prepare simpler accounts, they may have straightforward income and expense profiles, and their Corporation Tax position can be affected by items that need adjusting for tax purposes. If your company is required to submit a Company Tax Return, a micro-entity can still have Corporation Tax obligations, and the figures in its accounting records and accounts are usually the starting point for the Corporation Tax calculation. It is important to understand that taxable profit is not automatically the same as accounting profit. The Corporation Tax computation may add back disallowable expenses, deduct items that are allowable for tax but treated differently in the accounts, and apply capital allowances and reliefs where relevant. Equally, filing a CT600 and paying Corporation Tax are two distinct obligations: the return reports the position, while payment is a separate matter that depends on what the calculation shows. Not every micro-entity will owe Corporation Tax — that depends on the company’s individual taxable position — and the accounting framework used to prepare the accounts does not by itself determine the tax liability. Accounts preparation and Corporation Tax filing are related but separate processes, and here at Micro Entity Accounts we help Cheadle-based companies keep both on track.

A CT600 is the name of the form HMRC uses for a Company Tax Return. It is the document through which a limited company reports its income, expenses, and Corporation Tax position for an accounting period. The return brings together the company's financial information and the tax adjustments needed to arrive at taxable profit, and it is submitted to HMRC rather than to Companies House. Although the form is standardised, the amount of detail you need to complete depends on the size and complexity of the company's activities.

Broadly speaking, a company that is within the scope of Corporation Tax and has been asked to deliver a Company Tax Return by HMRC will need to file a CT600. Whether that applies to your company depends on its circumstances — for example whether it has traded, whether it has received a notice to file, and whether it has taxable income or profits. Some companies can be dormant or have no Corporation Tax liability but still have filing obligations, so it is worth checking your position rather than assuming that no tax due means no return required.

Yes, and this is one of the most common points of confusion. Statutory accounts are prepared under an accounting framework and filed with Companies House, where they become publicly available. A CT600 is a tax return submitted to HMRC. They are separate documents, filed with separate authorities, under separate rules — although the accounts usually provide the starting figures for the tax calculation. The Corporation Tax figures may then be adjusted, so the taxable profit reported on the CT600 can differ from the profit shown in the accounts.

They are closely linked but not the same thing. The Corporation Tax computation is the working document that starts with accounting profit and makes the adjustments needed to reach taxable profit — adding back disallowable expenditure, applying capital allowances, and dealing with other tax-specific items. The CT600 is the return form on which the resulting figures are reported to HMRC. In practice you prepare the computation first, then use it to complete the return, and keeping a clear computation on file is important because it explains how the numbers were arrived at.

There is no separate micro-entity version of the CT600, and being small does not automatically remove the requirement. A micro-entity company may still have Corporation Tax obligations and, where HMRC requires a Company Tax Return or the company has a taxable position to report, will need to submit one. That said, not every micro-entity owes Corporation Tax, and whether a return is required depends on the company's own circumstances. Preparing simpler accounts under a micro-entity framework does not by itself determine the company's tax liability — the tax calculation still has to be done properly.

The two filings are separate obligations with separate authorities, but they are rarely handled in complete isolation. The accounts provide the accounting figures that the Corporation Tax computation begins with, and HMRC expects the return to be consistent with the company's financial records. In some circumstances a company may have a CT600 obligation even where it has little or no activity, and the accounts position can be different from the tax position. Because the requirements vary, it is sensible to look at both together so that nothing is missed on either side.

Taxable profit starts with the profit shown in the accounts, but it is not simply copied across. The Corporation Tax computation adjusts for items treated differently for tax purposes — for example expenditure that is not allowable as a deduction, income that is taxed in a different way, depreciation replaced by capital allowances, and reliefs or losses that may be available. The result is the taxable profit used to work out the Corporation Tax position. Because these adjustments are technical, it is worth having them reviewed rather than assuming the accounting figure is the tax figure.

No — filing and payment are separate obligations. Submitting the CT600 reports the company's Corporation Tax position to HMRC, while paying Corporation Tax is a distinct step that depends on what the calculation shows. A company can file a return showing no Corporation Tax payable, and conversely a company with tax to pay still has a filing obligation. It is important to keep both in view, along with your Corporation Tax records, so that you know what has been reported and what, if anything, is due.

Yes. Company directors remain responsible for the accuracy of the return, but the preparation and submission work is commonly carried out by an accountant or tax agent acting on the company's behalf, with the return filed to HMRC through the agent's own channel. This usually makes sense where the tax adjustments are complicated or where the director would rather not work through the CT600 line by line. The company still needs to provide full and accurate information, and should review and approve the figures before submission.
