FRS 105 Micro Entity Accounts in Roker

FRS 105 Micro Entity Accounts in Roker are prepared under the financial reporting framework that applies to companies choosing the UK micro-entities regime. FRS 105 is not simply a shortened version of a standard set of accounts — it sets out its own recognition and measurement rules alongside a much reduced disclosure requirement, so the figures, notes and overall format can look quite different from accounts prepared under FRS 102. Whether the regime is available to your company depends on the applicable size conditions and on the wider eligibility rules and exclusions, and applying it is a choice rather than a default. Working with an experienced preparer helps you confirm whether the micro-entities regime suits your company, apply FRS 105 consistently, and produce financial statements that properly reflect your transactions, records and circumstances.

We worked with a few different accountants before finally settling with Accotax, and we’re really glad we did. Their team is great. Abdul is responsive and easy to reach whenever I have a question, which makes a big difference. They take the time to understand how our business works and what our needs are. They are very knowledgeable, and when they don’t have the answer straight away, they take the time to look into it and get back to us quickly. Anum, who looks after our account on a day-to-day basis, including reconciling invoices and preparing the annual accounts, is amazing. She is professional, efficient, and follows the processes we have put in place together. She's also very quickin getting back to us whenever needed. We’re very happy to work with her and hope to continue doing so for as long as possible. Overall, Accotax has made our accounting experience much smoother and easier. We see them as a long-term partner as our business continues to grow. I would 100% recommend them.

I have really impressed to date with all dealings with Accotax highly enough. From day one, they've made what can often be a complicated and stressful part of running a business feel straightforward and hassle-free. A special mention has to go to Anum, who has been friendly, incredibly responsive, and genuinely cares about providing the best possible service. No question is ever too much trouble, and she consistently goes above and beyond to make sure everything is dealt with efficiently. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend you to anyone looking for an accountant they can genuinely trust.

─── FRS 105 EXPLAINED

FRS 105 Explained: What the Micro-Entities Regime Means for Your Company

FRS 105 is the UK Financial Reporting Standard that applies to the micro-entities regime. In plain terms, it is the most straightforward set of company accounts rules available in the UK: it works on a historical cost basis, avoids fair value and revaluation adjustments, and requires far fewer notes than other frameworks. A company that qualifies for the micro-entities regime can choose to use it; where that choice is made, FRS 105 applies and the financial statements must follow its rules. The result is usually shorter, clearer accounts — typically a balance sheet, a profit and loss account and a small number of notes — that still need to be accurate and complete. For many small companies in Roker, that combination of simplicity and transparency is exactly what makes FRS 105 Micro Entity Accounts appealing, provided eligibility is checked first.

Who Can Use FRS 105 in the UK? Eligibility for the Micro-Entities Regime

FRS 105 is available to companies that qualify for the UK micro-entities regime and then choose to apply it. For accounting periods beginning on or after 6 April 2025, a company generally needs to meet at least 2 of 3 applicable size conditions: turnover of no more than £1 million, a balance sheet total of no more than £500,000, and an average of no more than 10 employees. Meeting those size conditions is not the whole test, however. Other eligibility rules and exclusions can apply, some companies are kept outside the regime regardless of their size, and eligibility can change from one accounting period to the next as the business grows or its circumstances shift. The regime is a choice rather than an automatic entitlement, and alternative small company frameworks remain available to many businesses. If your company is based in Roker and you think micro-entity reporting may suit it, the sensible first step is to check eligibility against the rules for your specific accounting period before FRS 105 Micro Entity Accounts are prepared.

A company generally needs to meet at least 2 of these 3 conditions.

─── What We Review

Everything Your Micro-Entity Company Is Required to Get Right

Most compliance problems are not deliberate. They come from a missed deadline, an accounts template that no longer matches FRS 105, or dividends taken without the paperwork to support them. Our review covers each area in turn and reports back in plain English.

FRS 105 Balance Sheet

A statutory balance sheet prepared to the FRS 105 format, using the reduced disclosure the micro-entities regime allows.

Profit & Loss Account

A profit and loss account prepared for your own records and for your Corporation Tax computation, without public filing.

Required Notes & Disclosures

Preparation of the notes and disclosures required for the company's accounts under the applicable reporting requirements.

Professionally Prepared FRS 105 Micro Entity Accounts With Accurate Financial Reporting

When you ask us to prepare FRS 105 Micro Entity Accounts, we start from your company’s own financial records — bookkeeping, bank and card transactions, sales and purchase invoices, expense records, payroll information and details of any assets or loans — and build the financial statements from those sources. The accounts are then prepared in line with FRS 105 and the requirements of the micro-entities regime as they apply to your company. It is worth being clear about the different pieces of the picture: preparing the financial statements is one task, filing the accounts with Companies House is another, and Corporation Tax is another again, usually dealt with through a CT600 submitted to HMRC. We can help across those areas so the figures, the filings and your tax position tell a consistent story. Nothing is guaranteed in advance, because outcomes depend on your records and circumstances, but the work is carried out carefully and explained in plain English.

FRS 105 is the UK Financial Reporting Standard that applies to the micro-entities regime. It is a self-contained framework rather than a trimmed-down version of FRS 102, and it uses a historical cost basis with very limited disclosure requirements. Companies that qualify for the micro-entities regime and choose to apply it must prepare their financial statements under FRS 105. In practice, this usually means a simpler balance sheet and profit and loss account with only a handful of notes.

FRS 105 is intended for companies that qualify for the UK micro-entities regime and decide to apply it. Qualification depends on the size conditions for the accounting period — generally meeting at least 2 of the 3 applicable conditions — together with the wider eligibility rules and exclusions that determine whether a company can use the regime at all. If you are not certain where your company stands, we can review your position before any FRS 105 Micro Entity Accounts are prepared.

No. The micro-entities regime is optional. A company that qualifies may choose to apply it and prepare FRS 105 accounts, but it may equally choose another framework it is eligible to use, such as FRS 102 Section 1A for small entities. Once the micro-entities regime has been adopted, FRS 105 applies to those accounts, and any later change of framework has to be handled properly and consistently so the figures remain comparable.

For accounting periods beginning on or after 6 April 2025, a company generally needs to meet at least 2 of 3 applicable size conditions: turnover of no more than £1 million, a balance sheet total of no more than £500,000, and an average of no more than 10 employees during the period. These are size tests only. The regime also has its own eligibility rules and exclusions, so passing 2 of the 3 conditions does not automatically mean a company can use FRS 105.

FRS 102 is the broader UK framework, with Section 1A providing a lighter regime for small entities. FRS 105 is narrower and simpler: it stays on a historical cost basis, does not permit fair value or revaluation adjustments, and requires much less disclosure. FRS 102 allows more accounting options and more detailed notes. The appropriate choice usually comes down to which regime a company qualifies for, the nature of its transactions, and what the users of the accounts actually need.

Yes. A company's annual accounts, including accounts prepared under FRS 105, are filed with Companies House. Micro-entity accounts are filed in the relevant format and typically include a balance sheet with limited notes. Filing the accounts and dealing with Corporation Tax are separate obligations with separate submission routes, even though both draw on the same underlying figures.

Yes. A CT600 is the Corporation Tax Return submitted to HMRC, and it is a different document and a different submission from the statutory accounts prepared under FRS 105. The accounts provide much of the starting information for the tax return, but the tax computation involves adjustments that sit outside the accounts themselves. Completing one does not satisfy the requirement to deal with the other.

Typically we need a complete record of the period's income and expenses, bank and credit card statements, sales and purchase invoices, payroll or contractor details, and information about any assets, stock, loans or directors' loans, along with the previous year's accounts and any relevant registrations. Well-kept records make the process smoother and reduce queries. If your bookkeeping is behind, we can discuss the best way to bring things up to date before the accounts are prepared.
