FRS 105 Micro Entity Accounts in Co.tyrone

FRS 105 provides the financial reporting framework for qualifying micro-entities that choose to apply the UK micro-entities regime. If your company is based in Co.tyrone and you are deciding how best to prepare and file your statutory accounts, we can help you work through the options and produce FRS 105 Micro Entity Accounts that suit your circumstances. We begin by reviewing whether your company falls within the micro-entities regime for the period in question, then look at the records behind your figures so that the accounts are prepared on a consistent and properly supported basis. FRS 105 is a distinct framework rather than simply a shortened version of small company accounts, so the way transactions are measured and the disclosures included can differ from other standards. Professional preparation helps ensure your FRS 105 Micro Entity Accounts are built around the correct framework and presented in line with the requirements that apply to your company. Eligibility is not automatic — it depends on your company’s size, its trading history and the rules in force for the accounting period — so it is worth discussing your position with us before the accounts are prepared.

I worked with Accotx on a HMRC reclaim and overall, they did ultimately deliver on their promise, which I appreciate. The process did take longer than any of us expected, partly due to external delays with the tax authorities, and partly because there were some hiccups in communication and follow-up. However, despite those challenges, they stayed professional and stuck to the original agreed terms. If you’re considering using them, be prepared to stay in regular contact to keep things moving along. They are absolutely capable, have the expertise and willing to work with you, and overall improving their services over time. I would certainly return for any future needs.

─── FRS 105 EXPLAINED

FRS 105 Explained: What the Micro-Entities Regime Means for Your Company

FRS 105 is the UK financial reporting standard written specifically for micro-entities. In plain terms, it is the accounting rulebook you use when your company both qualifies for the micro-entities regime and chooses to apply it. When that regime is used, FRS 105 sets out how the figures in your financial statements are recognised and measured, and what information needs to be disclosed alongside them. It is deliberately simplified compared with the standards used by larger companies, which means fewer accounting policy choices, less fair value and revaluation accounting, and a shorter set of notes. For a company in Co.tyrone that files FRS 105 Micro Entity Accounts, the practical result is a set of statutory accounts built around a straightforward framework: a balance sheet, a small number of notes and, where applicable, a profit and loss account prepared under the micro-entity rules. The key point is that the micro-entities regime is an option, not an obligation — qualifying companies can choose it, and FRS 105 applies when they do. If the regime is not used, a different framework such as FRS 102 will apply instead.

Who Can Use FRS 105 in the UK? Qualifying for the Micro-Entities Regime

FRS 105 is available to UK companies that qualify for the micro-entities regime and choose to apply it. For accounting periods beginning on or after 6 April 2025, a company generally needs to meet at least 2 of 3 applicable size conditions: turnover of no more than £1 million, a balance sheet total of no more than £500,000, and an average of no more than 10 employees. Those conditions are assessed for the accounting period in question, and where a period is longer or shorter than a year the figures are looked at on the appropriate basis. Size is only part of the picture, however. Other eligibility rules and exclusions can apply, and certain companies are not permitted to use the regime regardless of their size. Meeting the thresholds therefore does not automatically mean a company can or should file FRS 105 Micro Entity Accounts. If you run a company in Co.tyrone and want to know where you stand, we can review your figures and circumstances and explain whether the micro-entities regime looks suitable for your next set of accounts.

─── What We Review

Everything Your Micro-Entity Company Is Required to Get Right

Most compliance problems are not deliberate. They come from a missed deadline, an accounts template that no longer matches FRS 105, or dividends taken without the paperwork to support them. Our review covers each area in turn and reports back in plain English.

FRS 105 Balance Sheet

A statutory balance sheet prepared to the FRS 105 format, using the reduced disclosure the micro-entities regime allows.

Profit & Loss Account

A profit and loss account prepared for your own records and for your Corporation Tax computation, without public filing.

Required Notes & Disclosures

Preparation of the notes and disclosures required for the company's accounts under the applicable reporting requirements.

Corporation Tax Support

Separate Corporation Tax support can be provided where included in the agreed service. The Corporation Tax calculation is governed by tax rules rather than FRS 105.

Companies House Filing

Your FRS 105 accounts filed with Companies House in the correct format, before your accounts filing deadline.

Director Copy Pack

A full signed copy of your accounts and tax return, ready for your bank, mortgage lender or accountant records.

Professionally Prepared FRS 105 Micro Entity Accounts and Accurate Financial Reporting

Preparing FRS 105 Micro Entity Accounts properly starts with solid bookkeeping and a clear understanding of the framework being applied. We work from your company’s financial records — bank transactions, sales and purchase invoices, payroll information, asset purchases, loans and stock details — and build the financial statements around the applicable reporting requirements for a micro-entity. That means getting the measurement of your figures right, keeping the disclosure notes to what FRS 105 requires, and making sure the accounts are internally consistent with the rest of your records. It is important to keep the different obligations separate: preparing and filing your statutory accounts with Companies House is one task, while your Corporation Tax Return (CT600) is a separate submission made to HMRC, based on but not identical to the accounts. We can support you with both, so the figures line up and the deadlines on each side are managed. We do not claim that any set of accounts is automatically accepted or guaranteed to be compliant; instead, we prepare them carefully against the framework that applies to your company, explain the judgements involved, and answer your questions along the way.

FRS 105 is the UK financial reporting standard that applies to companies using the micro-entities regime. It sets out the recognition, measurement and disclosure requirements for the financial statements of a qualifying micro-entity, and it is intentionally simpler than the standards used by larger companies. In practice, that means fewer accounting policy choices, restricted use of fair value and revaluation accounting, and a shorter set of notes. FRS 105 is the framework you follow when your company qualifies for the micro-entities regime and chooses to apply it.

FRS 105 is intended for companies that both qualify for the UK micro-entities regime and decide to apply it. For accounting periods beginning on or after 6 April 2025, a company generally needs to meet at least 2 of 3 applicable size conditions: turnover of no more than £1 million, a balance sheet total of no more than £500,000, and an average of no more than 10 employees. Meeting the size tests alone does not guarantee eligibility, because other rules and exclusions can apply — for example, certain types of company are not permitted to use the regime. It is worth checking your position for each accounting period before the accounts are prepared.

No. The micro-entities regime is an available accounting regime rather than a mandatory one. A company that qualifies can choose to apply it and prepare FRS 105 Micro Entity Accounts, or it may use a different framework, such as the small companies regime under FRS 102. The right choice depends on your circumstances, including the level of detail you want to provide and any accounting policies you would prefer to use. If a company does not qualify as a micro-entity, FRS 105 is not available to it at all.

Both are UK financial reporting standards, but they serve different sizes of company and offer different levels of flexibility. FRS 105 is the micro-entity standard and is deliberately stripped back: there is little scope for revaluation or fair value accounting, and far fewer disclosures are required. FRS 102, including the small companies variant often referred to as Section 1A, allows more accounting policy options and generally requires more disclosure. A company that qualifies as a micro-entity may still prefer FRS 102 in some situations, so the framework is a decision to make rather than a default.

Statutory accounts for a limited company are generally filed at Companies House, and micro-entity accounts prepared under FRS 105 can be filed in that way, with the content reflecting the framework used. Filing accounts is separate from dealing with HMRC: submitting your annual accounts does not settle your Corporation Tax position, and paying or reporting Corporation Tax does not replace your accounts filing. Likewise, a Confirmation Statement is a different filing again and does not contain your financial statements. If you are unsure which obligations apply to your company, we can help you map them out.

Yes, they are two distinct filings. The FRS 105 Micro Entity Accounts are your statutory financial statements, prepared under the micro-entity framework and generally filed at Companies House. The CT600 is a Corporation Tax Return submitted to HMRC, which reports your company's taxable profits and is based on, but not identical to, your accounts. The two documents serve different purposes and go to different bodies, so it is important not to treat one as a substitute for the other.

We normally ask for complete records covering the accounting period, including bank and credit card statements, sales invoices and receipts, purchase invoices and expense records, payroll information, details of any loans or finance agreements, records of assets bought or sold, and stock or work-in-progress figures where relevant. It also helps to have your previous year's accounts and any relevant correspondence from Companies House or HMRC. If your records are partly paper-based or held in different systems, let us know — we can work with what you have and suggest practical ways to fill any gaps before preparation begins.

Companies House has been introducing reforms under the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act, and these include changes affecting how accounts are filed and what smaller companies, including micro-entities, are expected to submit. Because the detailed requirements and their timing can be updated, the safest approach is to check the current Companies House guidance for your filing, or ask us to confirm what applies to your company's next set of accounts. We keep an eye on these developments so that the FRS 105 Micro Entity Accounts we prepare reflect the rules in force at the time.
