FRS 105 Micro Entity Accounts in Bradford

FRS 105 Micro Entity Accounts in Bradford give qualifying companies a clear and proportionate way to report their financial position. FRS 105 is the financial reporting framework for companies that fall within the UK micro-entities regime and have chosen to apply it, so the accounts are produced on a simpler basis than reporting for larger companies. Professional preparation helps to make sure the figures are built from your actual bookkeeping and records, presented in the expected format, and supported by the disclosures the framework requires for your circumstances. Whether your Bradford company is newly incorporated or has traded for many years, we can look at your position, consider whether the micro-entities regime appears suitable, and prepare accounts that reflect your company’s activity accurately. Eligibility is not automatic, so the size conditions and any other applicable rules need to be considered for each accounting period.

I worked with Accotx on a HMRC reclaim and overall, they did ultimately deliver on their promise, which I appreciate. The process did take longer than any of us expected, partly due to external delays with the tax authorities, and partly because there were some hiccups in communication and follow-up. However, despite those challenges, they stayed professional and stuck to the original agreed terms. If you’re considering using them, be prepared to stay in regular contact to keep things moving along. They are absolutely capable, have the expertise and willing to work with you, and overall improving their services over time. I would certainly return for any future needs.

─── FRS 105 EXPLAINED

FRS 105 Explained: What the Micro-Entities Regime Means for Your Company

FRS 105 is the UK financial reporting standard written specifically for micro-entities. It sits alongside the Companies Act requirements that apply to companies and gives qualifying businesses a simpler set of accounting rules: streamlined measurement of assets and liabilities, reduced disclosure, and financial statements that are easier to prepare and read. The important point is that FRS 105 is not compulsory for every small company. A company first needs to qualify for the micro-entities regime, and the directors then decide whether to apply that regime. If they choose to do so, FRS 105 is the framework used to produce the annual financial statements and the figures filed at Companies House. If they prefer a different basis, another framework such as FRS 102 Section 1A may apply instead. For many owner-managed companies in Bradford, the micro-entities regime keeps reporting proportionate while still meeting the legal requirements that apply to the company’s accounts.

Who Can Use FRS 105 in the UK? Eligibility for Bradford Companies

FRS 105 is intended for companies that qualify for the UK micro-entities regime and then choose to apply it. For accounting periods beginning on or after 6 April 2025, a company generally needs to meet at least 2 of 3 applicable size conditions: turnover of no more than £1 million, a balance sheet total of no more than £500,000, and an average of no more than 10 employees, measured as the rules require. Those thresholds are a starting point rather than a guarantee of eligibility. Other eligibility rules and exclusions apply, and some companies — including certain investment undertakings and companies excluded from the small companies regime — cannot use the micro-entities regime at all. Eligibility is normally assessed for each accounting period, so a growing Bradford company may qualify in one year and fall outside the regime in the next. Because of that, we review your circumstances before accounts are prepared, so the framework chosen suits your company rather than simply being assumed.

A company generally needs to meet at least 2 of these 3 conditions.

─── What We Review

Everything Your Micro-Entity Company Is Required to Get Right

Most compliance problems are not deliberate. They come from a missed deadline, an accounts template that no longer matches FRS 105, or dividends taken without the paperwork to support them. Our review covers each area in turn and reports back in plain English.

FRS 105 Balance Sheet

A statutory balance sheet prepared to the FRS 105 format, using the reduced disclosure the micro-entities regime allows.

Profit & Loss Account

A profit and loss account prepared for your own records and for your Corporation Tax computation, without public filing.

Required Notes & Disclosures

Preparation of the notes and disclosures required for the company's accounts under the applicable reporting requirements.

Corporation Tax Support

Separate Corporation Tax support can be provided where included in the agreed service. The Corporation Tax calculation is governed by tax rules rather than FRS 105.

Companies House Filing

Your FRS 105 accounts filed with Companies House in the correct format, before your accounts filing deadline.

Director Copy Pack

A full signed copy of your accounts and tax return, ready for your bank, mortgage lender or accountant records.

Professionally Prepared FRS 105 Micro Entity Accounts for Bradford Companies

Preparing FRS 105 Micro Entity Accounts starts with your financial records. We work through your bank transactions, sales and purchase records, payroll information, asset details, loan arrangements and any previous accounts, then prepare the balance sheet, profit and loss account and supporting notes in line with the framework the company has adopted. Getting the accounting treatment right matters, because the accounts are filed on the public record at Companies House and may also be looked at by lenders, landlords, grant providers and HMRC in other contexts. Preparing the financial statements and filing them at Companies House is a separate exercise from your Corporation Tax position: the Corporation Tax Return (CT600) is submitted to HMRC and is based on the company’s taxable profits, which can differ from the accounting profit shown in the accounts, because of tax adjustments. We can help with both, and we will be clear about what is required, what information we need, and where your responsibilities as a director begin and end. No firm can guarantee a particular outcome or that a filing will be accepted without question, but consistent, carefully prepared accounts give you a sound basis to work from.

FRS 105 is the UK financial reporting standard that applies to micro-entities. It sets out the accounting rules, measurement basis and disclosure requirements that a qualifying company uses when it applies the micro-entities regime, including how the annual financial statements are presented. It is deliberately shorter and simpler than the standards used by larger companies, which keeps reporting proportionate for smaller owner-managed businesses.

FRS 105 can be used by companies that qualify as micro-entities and then choose to apply the micro-entities regime. For accounting periods beginning on or after 6 April 2025, a company generally needs to meet at least 2 of 3 applicable size conditions: turnover of no more than £1 million, a balance sheet total of no more than £500,000, and an average of no more than 10 employees. The size tests are a starting point rather than the whole picture, because other eligibility rules and exclusions apply and some companies are not permitted to use the regime. We look at your particular circumstances before any accounts are prepared.

No. Qualifying for the micro-entities regime and applying it are two separate steps. The directors can choose to adopt the regime, in which case FRS 105 is the framework used, or they can prepare accounts under a different framework such as FRS 102 Section 1A. The choice affects the level of disclosure and the accounting policies applied, so it is worth considering deliberately rather than treating it as the automatic option.

FRS 102 is the standard used by most small and medium-sized companies, with Section 1A applying to small companies. FRS 105 is more restrictive as well as shorter: it does not permit fair value accounting or revaluation of assets, and deferred tax is not recognised. Disclosure requirements are also reduced. In practice, FRS 105 accounts are simpler to prepare and easier to read, but they offer less flexibility, so they will not suit every company.

Yes. Where a company prepares accounts under the micro-entities regime, those accounts still need to be filed at Companies House in line with the normal filing requirements for the company, together with the statements and notes the framework requires. Filing the accounts is separate from your other Companies House obligations — for example, a Confirmation Statement is a different filing and does not contain your financial statements.

Yes, the two are separate. FRS 105 relates to the accounting framework used to prepare the company's financial statements, which are filed at Companies House. A CT600 is the Corporation Tax Return submitted to HMRC and is based on the company's taxable profits, which can differ from the profit shown in the accounts because of tax adjustments and allowances. Both still need to be dealt with, and preparing them together helps the figures reconcile sensibly.

Typically we ask for your bookkeeping records or accounting software access for the period, bank and credit card statements, sales and purchase invoices where these are not already captured, payroll information, details of assets bought or sold, loan and lease agreements, and the previous year's accounts. If your records are behind or incomplete, it helps to say so early — sorting the bookkeeping out first is far easier than correcting the accounts afterwards.

Companies House has been moving towards software-only filing of accounts, with paper and simple web-form filing being phased out for small and micro-entity accounts. That means the way accounts are produced and submitted matters more than it used to, and the figures need to be in a format that supports the required filing route. We keep an eye on these developments and prepare accounts in a way that can be filed through the appropriate channels.
