First Year Accounts for Limited Company in Stocksfield, Prepared and Filed With Confidence

Incorporating a company in Stocksfield brings with it a set of statutory duties, and the first of those to arrive is usually the company’s initial set of accounts. Micro Entity Accounts supports directors through that stage by preparing First Year Accounts for Limited Company, working from your accounting records to produce a balance sheet, together with a profit and loss account where applicable, and then filing the accounts with Companies House where required. We will also explain how the first accounting period is measured from your incorporation date and accounting reference date, what supporting information we need from you, and how your Companies House filing sits separately from your Corporation Tax position, including any CT600 that may need to be submitted to HMRC. Whether the company has begun trading or is still in its early stages, first-year accounts are still a statutory matter, and getting the figures and the framework right from the outset saves confusion later.

I highly recommend Imran to anyone looking for a reliable and knowledgeable accountant. He helped me sort out a very complicated backlog of accounts and prepared my overdue tax returns with professionalism and attention to detail. Throughout the process, he was incredibly patient, took the time to answer all of my questions, and explained everything clearly. We worked with a few different accountants before finally settling with Accotax, and we’re really glad we did. Their team is great. Abdul is responsive and easy to reach whenever I have a question, which makes a big difference. They take the time to understand how our business works and what our needs are. They are very knowledgeable, and when they don’t have the answer straight away, they take the time to look into it and get back to us quickly. Anum, who looks after our account on a day-to-day basis, including reconciling invoices and preparing the annual accounts, is amazing. She is professional, efficient, and follows the processes we have put in place together. She's also very quickin getting back to us whenever needed. We’re very happy to work with her and hope to continue doing so for as long as possible. Overall, Accotax has made our accounting experience much smoother and easier. We see them as a long-term partner as our business continues to grow. I would 100% recommend them.

I have really impressed to date with all dealings with Accotax highly enough. From day one, they've made what can often be a complicated and stressful part of running a business feel straightforward and hassle-free. A special mention has to go to Anum, who has been friendly, incredibly responsive, and genuinely cares about providing the best possible service. No question is ever too much trouble, and she consistently goes above and beyond to make sure everything is dealt with efficiently. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend you to anyone looking for an accountant they can genuinely trust.

Your first filing timeline

Incorporation

Your first filing timeline depends on your company's incorporation date and accounting reference date.

Accounting reference date

Set by default to the last day of the month of incorporation, one year on.

First accounts due

Normally 21 months after incorporation at Companies House.

First CT600 due

12 months after the end of the accounting period, with tax due earlier.

What Are First Year Accounts for a Micro Company, and Does Your New Company Qualify?

First-year accounts are the first set of statutory annual accounts a limited company prepares after it is incorporated. They cover the company’s initial accounting period, which generally starts on the date of incorporation, and they are prepared for the company’s members and delivered to Companies House where required. They are not optional simply because the company is new, and they are not the same thing as a Corporation Tax Return or a confirmation statement. The first accounting period does not always run for a full twelve months. When a company is incorporated, an accounting reference date is set, and the first period is usually measured from the incorporation date to that reference date. Later periods then follow the normal annual cycle. Because incorporation dates differ, the length of a first accounting period differs too, and the filing deadline that applies flows from the company’s own incorporation date and accounting reference date rather than one fixed rule that fits every new company. That is why a director in Stocksfield should check their own company’s dates rather than rely on a general assumption. Some companies are able to prepare accounts under the micro-entity framework, with FRS 105 being the financial reporting standard applicable to qualifying entities that use it. Eligibility depends on meeting the applicable criteria for the relevant accounting period and is assessed on the company’s circumstances. It is not automatic, it is not guaranteed by low activity, and it does not follow simply from being newly incorporated. A company with little or no trading may have a different reporting position again, and whether it is dormant or simply quiet depends on the facts rather than on the label. Directors remain responsible for making sure the company meets its statutory obligations. Instructing an accountant assists with preparing, reviewing and filing the required information, but it does not shift that legal responsibility away from the board. In practice, preparing first-year accounts involves gathering the records that exist: bank transactions, sales and income records, business expense receipts and purchase invoices, asset purchases, share capital information, director transactions, loans or finance arrangements, and payroll or VAT records where those apply. It also helps to keep the separate filings clearly in view. Statutory accounts go to Companies House where required. A Corporation Tax Return, such as a CT600, goes to HMRC where applicable, and the company’s first Corporation Tax accounting period may not be identical to its statutory accounts period. A confirmation statement is a further Companies House filing that keeps the public register up to date. Completing one of these does not complete the others, so it is worth mapping out what is due and when.

Does Your New Company Qualify as a Micro Entity?

Even in your first period, your company must meet the Companies House size criteria to file micro-entity accounts. A company generally needs to meet at least two of these three conditions.

Annual Turnover of £1 Million or less. (£632,000 previously)

Get Your First Year Accounts for Limited Company in Stocksfield Prepared Properly

The first set of accounts often arrives sooner than new directors expect, and it tends to raise questions that are not obvious from the incorporation paperwork: which reporting framework applies, what Companies House actually expects to receive, and how the accounts relate to the company’s separate tax obligations. Micro Entity Accounts works with newly incorporated and newly trading limited companies in Stocksfield to prepare first-year statutory accounts from accurate records, talk through the figures before anything is finalised, and manage the Companies House filing where required. If your bookkeeping is patchy, if the company has had limited activity, or if you are unsure whether a micro-entity or small-company framework is the right fit, we can review your circumstances and set out what is needed in plain terms. Sorting the first year carefully makes each following year simpler to manage.

They are the first set of statutory annual accounts prepared for a company's initial accounting period, which usually begins on the date of incorporation. They typically include a balance sheet and, where applicable, a profit and loss account, along with any notes required by the reporting framework the company uses. They are prepared for the company's members and delivered to Companies House where required.

The due date depends on the company's own incorporation date and accounting reference date, so it is not the same for every new company. The first accounting period often runs for more than or less than twelve months, which affects when the accounts must be filed. Rather than working from a general rule, it is best to check your company's specific dates on the Companies House record, and we can help you confirm what applies to your company.

It depends on what the company has done. Commonly needed items include bank statements and transactions, sales or income records, purchase invoices and expense receipts, details of any assets bought, share capital information, director loan or expense transactions, and any finance or loan arrangements. Payroll records and VAT records are also relevant where the company operates those. If the company has had little activity, the records required will be lighter, but the reporting position still needs to be considered.

In most cases, yes, a newly incorporated company will have a statutory accounts filing obligation, even where trading has not yet started. The requirement does not disappear because the company is new or quiet. Where a company has had no significant accounting transactions, its reporting position depends on its circumstances and the applicable rules rather than being automatically treated as dormant.

The accounts themselves follow the same statutory purpose, but the first set covers a period that may be longer or shorter than twelve months because it runs from incorporation to the accounting reference date. Later sets usually cover a standard twelve-month period. The first set can also be the point at which the company's reporting framework is confirmed for the first time.

No. Statutory accounts are prepared for the company's members and filed with Companies House where required, while a Corporation Tax Return such as a CT600 is submitted to HMRC where applicable. The information in the accounts often feeds into the tax return, but the two are separate filings with separate purposes, and a company's first Corporation Tax accounting period may differ from its statutory accounts period.

Some new companies do qualify, but it is not automatic. Eligibility is based on meeting the applicable criteria for the relevant accounting period, and the appropriate framework is decided by looking at the company's circumstances. FRS 105 applies to qualifying entities using the micro-entity framework, and a company that does not meet the criteria would report under a different framework.

No, they are separate filings. A confirmation statement keeps the company's information on the public register up to date, while the accounts report the company's financial position for the period. A limited company in Stocksfield may need to submit both, along with any Corporation Tax Return due to HMRC, so it is worth tracking each obligation individually.

Failing to file required accounts by the applicable deadline can lead to consequences from Companies House, and those consequences are not identical in every case. Paying any penalty does not remove the requirement to file the outstanding accounts. If accounts are already overdue, it is worth dealing with them promptly and taking advice on your position, as appeal eligibility depends on the circumstances and the applicable rules.
