First Year Accounts for Limited Company in Pontefract: Professional Preparation and Filing Support

Incorporating a limited company in Pontefract brings statutory reporting duties, even if trading has not yet started. Micro Entity Accounts provides professional support with your First Year Accounts for Limited Company requirements, from reviewing the accounting records you hold to preparing the statutory accounts and filing them with Companies House where required. If your company also needs to deal with Corporation Tax, that is a separate matter handled through HMRC, typically via a CT600, and we can explain how the two processes fit together. Our role is to make the first accounting period clearer, so you understand what information is needed and what steps apply to your company.

I worked with Accotx on a HMRC reclaim and overall, they did ultimately deliver on their promise, which I appreciate. The process did take longer than any of us expected, partly due to external delays with the tax authorities, and partly because there were some hiccups in communication and follow-up. However, despite those challenges, they stayed professional and stuck to the original agreed terms. If you’re considering using them, be prepared to stay in regular contact to keep things moving along. They are absolutely capable, have the expertise and willing to work with you, and overall improving their services over time. I would certainly return for any future needs.

I highly recommend Imran to anyone looking for a reliable and knowledgeable accountant. He helped me sort out a very complicated backlog of accounts and prepared my overdue tax returns with professionalism and attention to detail. Throughout the process, he was incredibly patient, took the time to answer all of my questions, and explained everything clearly. He guided me through each step and helped rectify issues that had built up over time, making what felt like an overwhelming situation much more manageable. I'm very pleased with the service I've received and truly appreciate his support. If you need help with your accounts or taxes, I would highly recommend Imran.

Fabulous team at ACCOTAX - very efficient and good response time . Honest and professional with their work. I would highly recommend them even if you’re a young start up - or a large business they have it covered .
Your first filing timeline

Incorporation

Your first filing timeline depends on your company's incorporation date and accounting reference date.

Accounting reference date

Set by default to the last day of the month of incorporation, one year on.

First accounts due

Normally 21 months after incorporation at Companies House.

First CT600 due

12 months after the end of the accounting period, with tax due earlier.

What Are First Year Accounts for a Micro Company, and Does Your Pontefract Limited Company Qualify?

First-year accounts are the first set of statutory accounts a newly incorporated limited company prepares for its initial accounting period. They are not optional merely because the company is new. The company’s first accounting period usually begins on the date of incorporation and ends on its first accounting reference date, although the exact period depends on the incorporation date and Companies House requirements. These accounts are generally filed with Companies House where required and typically include a balance sheet, and a profit and loss account where applicable, along with any notes required by the relevant reporting framework. Directors remain responsible for ensuring the company meets its filing obligations, even when an accountant is engaged to help. A confirmation statement is separate from the statutory accounts, and filing accounts does not replace it. Corporation Tax is also separate: a company may need to prepare a CT600 for HMRC, and the first Corporation Tax accounting period may not be identical to the statutory accounts period. Some companies may qualify for the micro-entity framework, using FRS 105 where eligible, but this depends on the company’s circumstances and the eligibility tests for the relevant period. Not every new limited company is a micro-entity. In Pontefract, company directors often ask us to confirm which reporting framework applies before accounts are prepared, so the figures and disclosures are handled correctly from the outset.

Does Your New Company Qualify as a Micro Entity?

Even in your first period, your company must meet the Companies House size criteria to file micro-entity accounts. A company generally needs to meet at least two of these three conditions.

Business Turnover

Annual Turnover of £1 Million or less. (£632,000 previously)

Balance Sheet

Balance sheet total of £500,000 or less.(£316,000 previously)

Company Size

On an average 10 or less employees
(10 or less previously)

They are the first set of annual statutory accounts prepared for a company’s initial accounting period. For a newly incorporated company, this period usually starts on incorporation and ends on the first accounting reference date, though the exact period depends on the company’s circumstances and Companies House requirements. The accounts generally include a balance sheet and, where applicable, a profit and loss account.

The deadline depends on the company’s incorporation date, its accounting reference date and the applicable Companies House rules. Because first-year deadlines can be different from later years, it is important to check the company’s specific dates rather than assume a standard deadline applies. Professional support can help you confirm the relevant filing date for your company.

Typically, we need bank transactions, sales and income records, business expenses, purchase invoices, asset purchases, director transactions, share capital details, loans or finance agreements, and any payroll or VAT records where applicable. Not every company will have all of these. The exact list depends on what the company has done during its first accounting period.

A newly incorporated limited company will usually need to prepare and file statutory accounts with Companies House where required, even if it has not started trading or has had limited activity. The company may also have separate Corporation Tax obligations to HMRC. Filing accounts with Companies House does not automatically submit a CT600 or a confirmation statement.

No. First-year statutory accounts are generally filed with Companies House, while a CT600 is a Corporation Tax Return submitted to HMRC where applicable. The two are separate filings with different purposes and destinations. Information from the accounts may be used when preparing the Corporation Tax position, but filing one does not complete the other.

A company may still have statutory filing obligations even if it has not yet started trading or has had no significant accounting transactions. Whether it is treated as dormant depends on its circumstances and the applicable rules. It is not safe to assume that no filing is required simply because there has been little or no activity. Speaking to an accountant can clarify the position for your Pontefract company.

Some newly incorporated companies may qualify for the micro-entity framework if they meet the eligibility requirements for the relevant accounting period. This is not automatic, and not every new company qualifies. The appropriate reporting framework, which may involve FRS 105 where eligible, should be determined based on the company’s circumstances. We can review your position and confirm which framework is likely to apply.

Failing to file required accounts by the applicable deadline can lead to Companies House consequences, but the outcome depends on the circumstances and applicable rules. Paying any penalty does not remove the requirement to file the outstanding accounts. If you are concerned about a late filing, professional advice can help you understand the position and the next steps.
