We worked with a few different accountants before finally settling with Accotax, and we’re really glad we did. Their team is great. Abdul is responsive and easy to reach whenever I have a question, which makes a big difference. They take the time to understand how our business works and what our needs are. They are very knowledgeable, and when they don’t have the answer straight away, they take the time to look into it and get back to us quickly. Anum, who looks after our account on a day-to-day basis, including reconciling invoices and preparing the annual accounts, is amazing. She is professional, efficient, and follows the processes we have put in place together. She's also very quickin getting back to us whenever needed. We’re very happy to work with her and hope to continue doing so for as long as possible. Overall, Accotax has made our accounting experience much smoother and easier. We see them as a long-term partner as our business continues to grow. I would 100% recommend them.

I have really impressed to date with all dealings with Accotax highly enough. From day one, they've made what can often be a complicated and stressful part of running a business feel straightforward and hassle-free. A special mention has to go to Anum, who has been friendly, incredibly responsive, and genuinely cares about providing the best possible service. No question is ever too much trouble, and she consistently goes above and beyond to make sure everything is dealt with efficiently. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend you to anyone looking for an accountant they can genuinely trust.

FAQs: Corporation Tax Returns For Micro Companies

A Corporation Tax Return is the return a limited company submits to HMRC to report its taxable profit or loss for an accounting period and to show the Corporation Tax that is due, or to confirm that no tax is payable. It is a tax filing rather than a Companies House document, so it is prepared and submitted separately from the company's statutory accounts. The figures in the return are supported by a tax computation that starts from the accounting results and applies the relevant Corporation Tax rules.

CT600 is the name of the form HMRC uses for a Company Tax Return. In practice, the CT600 is completed and filed online, usually alongside a set of accounts and a tax computation prepared in the required format. The form captures the company's details, the accounting period, the figures from the computation and the resulting Corporation Tax position. Preparing the CT600 is therefore only one part of the wider return preparation process.

No. There is no separate micro-entity CT600. Micro-entity status is an accounting framework concept that affects how statutory accounts are prepared and what disclosures they include, not how Corporation Tax is reported. A micro company deals with Corporation Tax through the same Corporation Tax Return process as any other limited company, subject to its own figures and circumstances. Whether a company qualifies for the micro-entity framework depends on the applicable criteria, the accounting period concerned and the company's individual position.

Preparation typically involves reviewing the company's financial information, considering the accounting profit or loss, identifying the tax adjustments that may be required, and arriving at the taxable profit for the period. From there, the return and the supporting computation are prepared for submission to HMRC. Depending on the company's circumstances, this can include looking at items such as expenditure that is not allowable for tax, capital expenditure and any reliefs or losses being claimed. The aim is to make sure the return reflects the company's position and is supported by a clear computation.

Statutory accounts are the company's formal accounts, prepared under the applicable accounting framework and delivered to Companies House where required. A Corporation Tax Return such as a CT600 is submitted to HMRC and deals with the company's tax position for the period. They are two distinct documents with different purposes and different recipients, and preparing one does not complete the other. Filing statutory accounts with Companies House is not the same as filing a CT600 with HMRC, and HMRC does not approve statutory accounts.

Corporation Tax rules do not simply follow the accounting result, so adjustments are often needed. Certain expenses shown in the accounts may not be deductible for tax purposes, while other items may be treated differently under the tax rules, and the timing of relief can vary. The tax computation reconciles the accounting profit to the taxable profit and explains the adjustments made. This is one reason why two companies with similar accounts can arrive at different taxable figures.

Not necessarily. HMRC applies a deadline for submitting the Corporation Tax Return and a separate deadline for paying any Corporation Tax due, and these do not always fall on the same date. Both depend on the company's accounting period and on the applicable requirements, so directors should check the position for their own company rather than assuming a single date covers everything. Where a company expects to owe tax, it is sensible to look at payment well before the return is filed.

Dormancy for Corporation Tax purposes is treated separately from dormancy for Companies House purposes, and the two do not automatically align. A company may be dormant for Corporation Tax but still have Companies House obligations, and a company that considers itself dormant for Companies House may still need to deal with HMRC. It is also not the case that every dormant company has to keep submitting Corporation Tax Returns indefinitely, as this depends on the company's circumstances and on what HMRC has confirmed. Directors in Framlingham who are unsure of their position can ask us to review it.

We provide professional support with preparing the Corporation Tax Return and CT600 for eligible micro companies and small limited companies, including those based in and around Framlingham. That can involve working through the financial information, considering the adjustments that may apply, preparing the computation and the return, and submitting the CT600 to HMRC where applicable. We also explain the tax position in plain terms so directors understand what has been filed. Our support is offered on a clear, fixed-fee basis with no hidden costs.
