I worked with Accotx on a HMRC reclaim and overall, they did ultimately deliver on their promise, which I appreciate. The process did take longer than any of us expected, partly due to external delays with the tax authorities, and partly because there were some hiccups in communication and follow-up. However, despite those challenges, they stayed professional and stuck to the original agreed terms. If you’re considering using them, be prepared to stay in regular contact to keep things moving along. They are absolutely capable, have the expertise and willing to work with you, and overall improving their services over time. I would certainly return for any future needs.

─── OVERDUE ACCOUNTS EXPLAINED

What Makes Company Accounts Overdue, and Why It Is Worth Acting Sooner

Company accounts become overdue when the applicable statutory filing deadline passes and the required accounts have not been delivered to Companies House. The deadline itself is not the same for every company — it depends on factors such as the company’s accounting reference period, whether it is newly incorporated, and its particular circumstances — so the first useful step is usually to confirm exactly which accounting periods remain outstanding. Once accounts are late, the obligation to prepare and file them does not disappear, and for companies in Pontypridd Rhondda Cynon Taff that have let a deadline slip, dealing with the position sooner generally makes it easier to gather records and prepare accurate figures. Depending on the circumstances, an overdue company may also be accruing late-filing penalties, and Companies House may take action where filing obligations are persistently ignored. Filing the outstanding accounts is one part of the picture; confirmation statements, Corporation Tax obligations and other HMRC matters may need to be addressed separately. Because requirements vary between companies, we review your circumstances before advising on the appropriate reporting framework and the documents that need to be prepared and delivered.

─── Why Choose Us

How Much Are Companies House Late Filing Penalties?

Penalties escalate the longer your accounts stay unfiled, and they double if your company also filed late in the previous financial year. Acting now is the single most effective way to cap what you owe.

How late the accounts are Private company Public company
Up to 1 month late

£375
£750
3 to 6 months late

£1,500
More than 6 months late

HMRC applies separate penalties for late Corporation Tax Returns, starting at £100 per return plus interest on unpaid tax. Companies House late-filing penalties can change, so check the current GOV.UK guidance for the latest penalty rules.

Accounts are overdue when the applicable statutory filing deadline has passed and the required accounts have not been delivered to Companies House. It does not automatically mean that anything has happened to the company itself — it simply means a filing obligation remains outstanding. The deadline depends on the company's accounting reference period and its circumstances rather than being the same for every company, so it is worth confirming which periods are affected before deciding what to do next.

Yes. Missing the deadline does not remove the requirement to prepare and deliver the accounts, so the outstanding accounts still need to be dealt with. Where a company has more than one outstanding period, each period may need to be addressed separately. Submitting the accounts is also a distinct matter from any late-filing penalty that may apply, and from other obligations such as confirmation statements or Corporation Tax Returns submitted to HMRC where applicable.

It can. Dormancy and overdue filing are separate issues, and a dormant company still has Companies House filing obligations. If a dormant company did not deliver the required accounts by the applicable deadline, those accounts are overdue in the same way as any other outstanding filing. Dormant status does not by itself exempt a company from filing, although the accounts that need to be prepared may differ from those of a trading company.

Companies House can impose a late-filing penalty where accounts are delivered after the applicable deadline, and the penalty generally increases the longer the accounts remain outstanding. Penalty levels are not the same in every case and depend on how late the filing is and the company's circumstances, so we do not quote figures without reviewing the position. Paying a penalty does not remove the requirement to file the outstanding accounts — the two matters are handled separately.

Where more than one period is outstanding, several sets of accounts may need to be prepared and delivered. Filing one set does not automatically resolve the others, so it usually helps to work through the outstanding periods in a logical order. We can review which periods remain open, establish what information is available for each, and prepare the accounts that are required, subject to the relevant requirements and to your approval of the figures before submission.

An overdue filing does not automatically suspend or dissolve a company. However, Companies House may take action against companies that fail to meet their filing obligations, and persistent non-compliance can increase the risk of compulsory strike-off action. If your company has already received a strike-off notice, or has been dissolved, the position is more serious than a straightforward late filing and may require restoration or separate legal advice rather than being treated as an ordinary overdue accounts matter.

Yes, they are separate compliance matters. Statutory accounts are delivered to Companies House where required, while Corporation Tax Returns such as CT600 are submitted to HMRC where applicable. Filing overdue accounts with Companies House does not automatically settle any outstanding Corporation Tax obligations, so a company that is behind on both may need to deal with each separately. We can review what is outstanding and assist where relevant.

We help directors review their outstanding filing requirements, prepare the overdue accounts, and assist with delivery to Companies House where required. Preparing accounts usually involves information such as bookkeeping records, bank statements, invoices, expense records, previous accounts and company details, although exactly what is needed depends on the accounting period and the company's circumstances. Every accountant on our team is fully qualified and regulated by ICAEW, ACCA and AAT, and we keep our communication clear and our pricing straightforward. We cannot guarantee acceptance or prevent penalties, but we can make sure the accounts are prepared properly and submitted for your authorisation.
