First Year Accounts for Limited Company in Wantage, Prepared and Filed With Confidence

If your company was incorporated recently and its first accounting period is drawing to a close, the first set of statutory accounts is one of the earliest formal milestones you will deal with as a director. Our First Year Accounts for Limited Company service in Wantage supports newly incorporated and newly trading companies through that process, beginning with a review of the accounting records you hold and the reporting framework that applies to your company. From there we prepare the statutory accounts, typically a balance sheet and a profit and loss account where applicable, and can file them with Companies House where required. Corporation Tax is a separate matter handled through HMRC, so where a CT600 is needed it is prepared and submitted separately from the Companies House accounts filing.

I highly recommend Imran to anyone looking for a reliable and knowledgeable accountant. He helped me sort out a very complicated backlog of accounts and prepared my overdue tax returns with professionalism and attention to detail. Throughout the process, he was incredibly patient, took the time to answer all of my questions, and explained everything clearly. He guided me through each step and helped rectify issues that had built up over time, making what felt like an overwhelming situation much more manageable. We worked with a few different accountants before finally settling with Accotax, and we’re really glad we did. Their team is great. Abdul is responsive and easy to reach whenever I have a question, which makes a big difference. They take the time to understand how our business works and what our needs are. They are very knowledgeable, and when they don’t have the answer straight away, they take the time to look into it and get back to us quickly. Anum, who looks after our account on a day-to-day basis, including reconciling invoices and preparing the annual accounts, is amazing. She is professional, efficient, and follows the processes we have put in place together. She's also very quickin getting back to us whenever needed. We’re very happy to work with her and hope to continue doing so for as long as possible. Overall, Accotax has made our accounting experience much smoother and easier. We see them as a long-term partner as our business continues to grow. I would 100% recommend them.

I have really impressed to date with all dealings with Accotax highly enough. From day one, they've made what can often be a complicated and stressful part of running a business feel straightforward and hassle-free. A special mention has to go to Anum, who has been friendly, incredibly responsive, and genuinely cares about providing the best possible service. No question is ever too much trouble, and she consistently goes above and beyond to make sure everything is dealt with efficiently. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend you to anyone looking for an accountant they can genuinely trust.

Your first filing timeline

Incorporation

Your first filing timeline depends on your company's incorporation date and accounting reference date.

Accounting reference date

Set by default to the last day of the month of incorporation, one year on.

First accounts due

Normally 21 months after incorporation at Companies House.

First CT600 due

12 months after the end of the accounting period, with tax due earlier.

What Are First Year Accounts for a Limited Company, and When Might Micro-Entity Reporting Apply?

First-year accounts are the first set of annual statutory accounts a limited company prepares for its initial accounting period. They are not optional, and they are not something a company grows into later; they mark the beginning of the company’s statutory reporting history and are generally required even where trading has been limited. For a company incorporated in Wantage, the first accounting period normally runs from the date of incorporation to the company’s first accounting reference date. That period is often longer or shorter than twelve months, and Companies House applies its own rules to how a first accounts period is treated. The length of the period, and the filing deadline that follows it, should therefore be confirmed from the company’s own incorporation details and accounting reference date rather than assumed. The accounts themselves typically include a balance sheet, a profit and loss account where applicable, and any notes or disclosures required by the framework used. Directors remain responsible for keeping adequate accounting records and for ensuring the company meets its filing obligations, even when an accountant prepares the figures on the company’s behalf. On the reporting framework: some companies may qualify to prepare micro-entity accounts, and FRS 105 is the financial reporting standard applicable to qualifying entities using the micro-entity framework. Eligibility depends on the company’s circumstances and the applicable requirements for the relevant accounting period, so it is not something that can be assumed for a new company, and low activity or modest turnover alone does not settle the question. The appropriate framework is confirmed once the company’s position is reviewed. It is worth separating three distinct obligations. The statutory accounts are delivered to Companies House where required. A Corporation Tax Return, such as a CT600, is submitted to HMRC where applicable, and the two filings have different purposes and destinations, so one does not complete the other. A confirmation statement is a further, separate filing that keeps the company’s registered information up to date. A company’s first Corporation Tax accounting period and its statutory accounts period may also not be identical, which is one reason the filings are handled on their own terms.

Does Your New Company Qualify as a Micro Entity?

Even in your first period, your company must meet the Companies House size criteria to file micro-entity accounts. A company generally needs to meet at least two of these three conditions.

Business Turnover

Annual Turnover of £1 Million or less. (£632,000 previously)

Balance Sheet

Balance sheet total of £500,000 or less.(£316,000 previously)

Company Size

On an average 10 or less employees
(10 or less previously)

Get Your First Year Accounts for Limited Company in Wantage Prepared Properly

It is common for directors of newly incorporated companies to feel unsure about what the first set of accounts actually involves, which records are needed, and how the Companies House filing fits alongside anything owed to HMRC. Those are reasonable questions, and they are easier to answer once someone reviews the company’s incorporation details, accounting reference date and records. Micro Entity Accounts can prepare and review your first-year statutory accounts, confirm which reporting framework applies to your company, and support the Companies House filing where required, with clear pricing and no hidden costs. If your company is approaching the end of its first accounting period, or if the position is already unclear, talking it through with someone who deals with new companies regularly is the most practical first step.

They are the first set of annual statutory accounts a company prepares for its initial accounting period, covering the period from incorporation to the first accounting reference date. They usually include a balance sheet and a profit and loss account where applicable, together with any notes required by the reporting framework used. They are a statutory requirement for a limited company, not an optional exercise.

In most cases, yes. A limited company generally has a statutory duty to prepare annual accounts for its first accounting period and deliver them to Companies House where required, even where activity has been limited. The precise position depends on the company's circumstances and the applicable rules, and never having traded is not automatically the same as being dormant, so it is worth confirming rather than assuming.

The first accounting period usually begins on the date of incorporation and ends on the company's first accounting reference date. That first period is often longer or shorter than twelve months, and the filing deadline depends on the incorporation date, the accounting reference date and the applicable Companies House requirements. We confirm the deadline for your specific company before preparing anything, rather than applying a blanket date.

It depends on the company, but typically bank transactions and statements, sales and income records, purchase invoices and business expenses, details of any assets bought, director transactions or loans, share capital information, and payroll or VAT records where those apply. Directors in Wantage often find that starting with a full set of bank statements and a folder of invoices is the quickest way to establish what is missing before accounts preparation begins.

No. Statutory accounts are delivered to Companies House where required, while a Corporation Tax Return such as a CT600 is submitted to HMRC where applicable. A confirmation statement is a separate filing that keeps the company's registered details up to date. Filing one of these does not complete the others, and the information used to prepare them, although related, serves different purposes.

A company may still have statutory filing obligations even where it has had limited or no trading activity. Whether it can be treated as dormant, and what needs to be filed, depends on its circumstances and the applicable rules rather than on the absence of sales alone. If your company has had minimal transactions, we can look at the position and explain what is actually required.

Some companies may qualify for the micro-entity framework if they meet the applicable eligibility requirements for the relevant accounting period, and FRS 105 is the standard used by qualifying micro-entities. Not every newly incorporated company qualifies, and a small turnover figure on its own does not settle it. The appropriate framework is determined once the company's circumstances are reviewed.

Filing after the applicable deadline can lead to Companies House consequences, and the outcome may vary depending on how late the accounts are and the company's filing history. Paying any penalty does not remove the requirement to file the outstanding accounts. If the accounts are already overdue, we can help you establish what needs to be filed and assist with the position; whether an appeal is available depends on the circumstances and the applicable rules.
