First Year Accounts for Limited Company in Strelley — Professional Preparation and Companies House Filing Support

Incorporating a limited company brings statutory obligations with it, and the first set of annual accounts is usually the earliest of them. Micro Entity Accounts supports newly incorporated and newly trading companies in Strelley with First Year Accounts for Limited Company reporting periods — preparing the statutory accounts, checking that the underlying accounting records are complete, and filing with Companies House where required. We look at your incorporation date, accounting reference date and actual level of activity to establish what the company needs to do, then prepare a balance sheet and, where applicable, a profit and loss account under the reporting framework that suits your circumstances. Corporation Tax is a separate compliance matter handled by HMRC, so where a CT600 is needed we can explain how that sits alongside your Companies House filing rather than being part of it.

I highly recommend Imran to anyone looking for a reliable and knowledgeable accountant. He helped me sort out a very complicated backlog of accounts and prepared my overdue tax returns with professionalism and attention to detail. Throughout the process, he was incredibly patient, took the time to answer all of my questions, and explained everything clearly. We worked with a few different accountants before finally settling with Accotax, and we’re really glad we did. Their team is great. Abdul is responsive and easy to reach whenever I have a question, which makes a big difference. They take the time to understand how our business works and what our needs are. They are very knowledgeable, and when they don’t have the answer straight away, they take the time to look into it and get back to us quickly. Anum, who looks after our account on a day-to-day basis, including reconciling invoices and preparing the annual accounts, is amazing. She is professional, efficient, and follows the processes we have put in place together. She's also very quickin getting back to us whenever needed. We’re very happy to work with her and hope to continue doing so for as long as possible. Overall, Accotax has made our accounting experience much smoother and easier. We see them as a long-term partner as our business continues to grow. I would 100% recommend them.

I have really impressed to date with all dealings with Accotax highly enough. From day one, they've made what can often be a complicated and stressful part of running a business feel straightforward and hassle-free. A special mention has to go to Anum, who has been friendly, incredibly responsive, and genuinely cares about providing the best possible service. No question is ever too much trouble, and she consistently goes above and beyond to make sure everything is dealt with efficiently. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend you to anyone looking for an accountant they can genuinely trust.

Your first filing timeline

Incorporation

Your first filing timeline depends on your company's incorporation date and accounting reference date.

Accounting reference date

Set by default to the last day of the month of incorporation, one year on.

First accounts due

Normally 21 months after incorporation at Companies House.

First CT600 due

12 months after the end of the accounting period, with tax due earlier.

What Are First Year Accounts for a Micro Company and Which Limited Companies in Strelley Can Use Them?

First year accounts are the opening set of statutory accounts a limited company prepares for its first accounting period. That period normally begins on the date of incorporation and runs to the company’s first accounting reference date, which is why a first accounting period is often longer or shorter than a standard annual period. The accounts are prepared from the company’s accounting records and generally include a balance sheet, together with a profit and loss account where the applicable framework requires one, along with any notes and a directors’ report where relevant. They are not the same as a Corporation Tax Return — the accounts information may feed into the tax position, but a CT600 is submitted to HMRC separately — and they are also not a confirmation statement, which is a distinct filing that keeps Companies House informed about the company’s officers, share capital and registered details. A company that meets the applicable eligibility conditions for the period may be able to report as a micro-entity, in which case FRS 105, the financial reporting standard for qualifying micro-entity entities, could be the appropriate framework. That is not automatic for every new company, and it is not determined by low turnover alone. Directors of newly formed companies in Strelley should treat first year accounts as a genuine requirement rather than a formality, even where trading has been limited.

Does Your New Company Qualify as a Micro Entity?

Even in your first period, your company must meet the Companies House size criteria to file micro-entity accounts. A company generally needs to meet at least two of these three conditions.

Business Turnover

Annual Turnover of £1 Million or less. (£632,000 previously)

Balance Sheet

Balance sheet total of £500,000 or less.(£316,000 previously)

Company Size

On an average 10 or less employees

Get Your First Year Accounts for Limited Company in Strelley Prepared Accurately and Filed Correctly

Many directors only discover the detail of first year accounts after incorporation, once the accounting reference date has already been set and the records need pulling together. If you are unsure which reporting framework applies to your company, what your first accounting period covers, or how the Companies House filing sits alongside a separate Corporation Tax position, Micro Entity Accounts can work through it with you. We help with preparing the statutory accounts, reviewing the accounting records behind them and filing the accounts where required, using clear pricing and no hidden costs. Speak to us before the deadline approaches rather than after it, so your first accounts are built on accurate records from the outset.

First year accounts are the first set of statutory accounts a company prepares for its initial accounting period, covering the period from incorporation through to its first accounting reference date. They are usually built from the company's own accounting records and typically include a balance sheet, plus a profit and loss account or notes where the applicable reporting framework requires them. They are distinct from the annual accounts that follow in later years, although the principles used to prepare them are broadly the same.

The filing deadline is based on your company's accounting reference date, which is set when the company is incorporated, so it is not the same date for every new company. Companies House applies specific rules to first accounting periods, and the deadline for a first set of accounts can differ from later years. Rather than assume a date, it is worth confirming the position for your company based on its incorporation date and accounting reference date. We can help you identify the relevant period and work towards it.

It depends on what the company has actually done. In practice, you may need bank statements and transactions, sales or income records, purchase invoices and business expenses, details of any assets bought, share capital information, director loans or transactions, and any payroll or VAT records if those apply. Companies that have traded very little will have far fewer records than those that have been active since incorporation. We review what exists and tell you what else is needed.

No. Statutory accounts are delivered to Companies House where required, while a Corporation Tax Return such as a CT600 is submitted to HMRC. The figures in the accounts are often used when working out the company's tax position, but the two filings serve different purposes and go to different places. Filing one does not complete the other, and a company may need to deal with both depending on its circumstances.

Limited activity does not automatically remove the company's filing obligations, and it does not by itself make a company dormant in the technical sense. Whether accounts are required, and what they should contain, depends on the company's circumstances and the applicable rules. A company that has had no significant transactions may have a much simpler reporting position, but that position should be confirmed rather than assumed. Directors in Strelley are often surprised at how early the first filing obligation can arise.

Some companies qualify for the micro-entity framework, and FRS 105 is the reporting standard that applies to qualifying entities using it. However, eligibility depends on meeting the applicable conditions for the relevant accounting period — it is not granted automatically to every newly incorporated company, and a low turnover figure on its own does not confirm eligibility. The right framework should be determined from the company's circumstances before the accounts are prepared.

No, they are separate filings with different purposes. The confirmation statement confirms that the information Companies House holds about the company — such as its officers, registered office and share capital — remains accurate. Filing first year accounts does not replace it, and a company may still need to submit a confirmation statement and keep its statutory details up to date while the accounts are being dealt with.

Filing after the applicable deadline can lead to Companies House consequences for the company and its directors, and the outcome is not identical in every case. Paying any penalty does not remove the requirement to file the outstanding accounts, so the priority is usually to get them completed and submitted. Where an appeal against a penalty is considered, eligibility depends on the circumstances and the applicable rules. If your first accounts are already overdue, it is better to act quickly than to wait.
