I highly recommend Imran to anyone looking for a reliable and knowledgeable accountant. He helped me sort out a very complicated backlog of accounts and prepared my overdue tax returns with professionalism and attention to detail. Throughout the process, he was incredibly patient, took the time to answer all of my questions, and explained everything clearly. He guided me through each step and helped rectify issues that had built up over time, making what felt like an overwhelming situation much more manageable. I'm very pleased with the service I've received and truly appreciate his support. If you need help with your accounts or taxes, I would highly recommend Imran.Posted on Google![]()

We worked with a few different accountants before finally settling with Accotax, and we’re really glad we did. Their team is great. Abdul is responsive and easy to reach whenever I have a question, which makes a big difference. They take the time to understand how our business works and what our needs are. They are very knowledgeable, and when they don’t have the answer straight away, they take the time to look into it and get back to us quickly. Anum, who looks after our account on a day-to-day basis, including reconciling invoices and preparing the annual accounts, is amazing. She is professional, efficient, and follows the processes we have put in place together. She's also very quickin getting back to us whenever needed. We’re very happy to work with her and hope to continue doing so for as long as possible. Overall, Accotax has made our accounting experience much smoother and easier. We see them as a long-term partner as our business continues to grow. I would 100% recommend them.Posted on Google![]()

I have really impressed to date with all dealings with Accotax highly enough. From day one, they've made what can often be a complicated and stressful part of running a business feel straightforward and hassle-free. A special mention has to go to Anum, who has been friendly, incredibly responsive, and genuinely cares about providing the best possible service. No question is ever too much trouble, and she consistently goes above and beyond to make sure everything is dealt with efficiently. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend you to anyone looking for an accountant they can genuinely trust.Posted on Google![]()

They are the first set of annual statutory accounts a company prepares after incorporation, covering its initial accounting period. The accounts normally include a balance sheet, and a profit and loss account where applicable, together with any notes and disclosures required by the reporting framework the company uses. These accounts are then delivered to Companies House where required. They are a company law requirement rather than a tax return, so they are not the same document as a CT600.
The due date depends on your company's accounting reference date, which is set when the company is incorporated, and on the length of the first accounting period. The first period is often different from a standard twelve-month period, so the deadline for first accounts is not necessarily the same pattern that will apply in later years. Rather than working from a general rule of thumb, it is best to check the specific dates recorded for your company and plan around those.
Typically we would look at bank statements and transactions, sales or income records, business expenses and purchase invoices, details of any assets purchased, director transactions and loans, share capital information, and any payroll or VAT records where those apply. Not every company will have all of these — a company with limited activity will have a much shorter list. The aim is to build a complete picture of what has happened in the company since incorporation so the accounts reflect it accurately.
In most cases, yes — a limited company has a statutory obligation to prepare accounts and to file them with Companies House where required, even if it has only recently been incorporated or has had limited activity. Filing the accounts does not mean Companies House approves or validates them; the company and its directors remain responsible for the content. If your company has not yet started trading, it is still worth checking what applies, because the position depends on your circumstances rather than on a general assumption.
The principles are the same, but the first set covers the company's opening period from incorporation to its first accounting reference date, which may be longer or shorter than twelve months. That can affect how the figures are presented and which comparative information is included. Later years generally follow a more predictable twelve-month cycle. Directors in Bury often find the first year the most confusing for exactly this reason.
No. Statutory accounts are prepared for the company and filed with Companies House where required. A Corporation Tax Return, such as a CT600, is submitted to HMRC where the company has a Corporation Tax obligation, and it serves a different purpose. Information from the accounts often feeds into the tax computation, but the two filings are separate, go to different bodies, and one does not complete the other. The company's first Corporation Tax accounting period may also differ from its statutory accounts period.
It may be able to, if it meets the eligibility requirements for the relevant accounting period — but being newly incorporated does not automatically make a company a micro-entity, and a company with low turnover does not automatically qualify either. If the criteria are met, the company may be able to prepare micro-entity accounts under FRS 105, the standard applicable to qualifying entities using that framework. Otherwise the small-company regime or full reporting may apply, depending on the company's circumstances.
Filing after the applicable deadline can lead to consequences from Companies House, and the outcome is not necessarily the same in every case. Paying any penalty that arises does not remove the requirement to file the outstanding accounts. If you are already overdue, the sensible step is to get the accounts prepared and filed as soon as possible, and to seek advice on whether an appeal may be appropriate given your circumstances and the applicable rules.
Yes, where one is due. A confirmation statement is a separate filing from the statutory accounts and confirms that the information Companies House holds about your company — such as directors, registered office and share capital — is correct. Filing your first-year accounts does not satisfy the confirmation statement requirement, and the confirmation statement does not replace the accounts. Directors remain responsible for keeping both up to date.
