First Year Accounts for Limited Company in Broxbourne: Prepared, Reviewed and Filed

If your company has been incorporated recently, the first set of statutory accounts is one of the earliest compliance tasks you will face — and often the one directors feel least certain about. Micro Entity Accounts supports limited companies in Broxbourne with first-year accounts preparation, beginning with a review of your accounting records and confirmation of the period the accounts need to cover. We prepare the statutory accounts, including a balance sheet and, where applicable, a profit and loss account and supporting notes, and can file them with Companies House where required. Corporation Tax is handled separately: where a CT600 is due, it is submitted to HMRC and dealt with as its own distinct filing.

I highly recommend Imran to anyone looking for a reliable and knowledgeable accountant. He helped me sort out a very complicated backlog of accounts and prepared my overdue tax returns with professionalism and attention to detail. Throughout the process, he was incredibly patient, took the time to answer all of my questions, and explained everything clearly. He guided me through each step and helped rectify issues that had built up over time, making what felt like an overwhelming situation much more manageable. We worked with a few different accountants before finally settling with Accotax, and we’re really glad we did. Their team is great. Abdul is responsive and easy to reach whenever I have a question, which makes a big difference. They take the time to understand how our business works and what our needs are. They are very knowledgeable, and when they don’t have the answer straight away, they take the time to look into it and get back to us quickly. Anum, who looks after our account on a day-to-day basis, including reconciling invoices and preparing the annual accounts, is amazing. She is professional, efficient, and follows the processes we have put in place together. She's also very quickin getting back to us whenever needed. We’re very happy to work with her and hope to continue doing so for as long as possible. Overall, Accotax has made our accounting experience much smoother and easier. We see them as a long-term partner as our business continues to grow. I would 100% recommend them.

I have really impressed to date with all dealings with Accotax highly enough. From day one, they've made what can often be a complicated and stressful part of running a business feel straightforward and hassle-free. A special mention has to go to Anum, who has been friendly, incredibly responsive, and genuinely cares about providing the best possible service. No question is ever too much trouble, and she consistently goes above and beyond to make sure everything is dealt with efficiently. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend you to anyone looking for an accountant they can genuinely trust.

What Are First Year Accounts for a Micro Company? A Guide for Broxbourne Limited Companies

First-year accounts are the first set of statutory accounts a limited company prepares after incorporation. They cover the company’s initial accounting period, which runs from the date the company was incorporated (or, in some circumstances, from the date it began trading) to its first accounting reference date. A newly incorporated company in Broxbourne is expected to deal with these obligations regardless of how much activity has taken place, and recent incorporation does not make the accounts optional. The first accounting period is not the same for every company. Companies House assigns an accounting reference date on incorporation, and that date drives both the period the accounts cover and the deadline for delivering them. The first period is often longer than the twelve months used in later years, which is one reason the first set of accounts tends to raise more questions than subsequent ones. Preparation should therefore start from the company’s own dates rather than from a general rule of thumb. Where a company meets the eligibility conditions for the relevant accounting period, it may be able to prepare accounts under the micro-entity framework, with FRS 105 as the financial reporting standard applicable to qualifying micro-entities. Eligibility is assessed case by case against the requirements in force for that period. It should not be assumed — a newly incorporated company may or may not qualify, and the appropriate framework depends on the company’s own circumstances. It also helps to keep the different obligations separate. Statutory accounts are delivered to Companies House where required. A Corporation Tax Return, such as a CT600, is submitted to HMRC where applicable, and it is a separate filing with a separate purpose and destination. A confirmation statement is separate again. Completing one of these does not discharge the others, and the company’s first Corporation Tax accounting period may not be identical to its statutory accounts period.

Does Your New Company Qualify as a Micro Entity?

Even in your first period, your company must meet the Companies House size criteria to file micro-entity accounts. A company generally needs to meet at least two of these three conditions.

Let Experienced Accountants Prepare Your First Year Accounts for Limited Company in Broxbourne

The first set of accounts usually arrives sooner than directors expect, and it is rarely obvious from the incorporation paperwork what period needs to be covered or which reporting framework applies. If your records are incomplete, your activity has been limited, or you are simply unsure whether anything is due yet, that uncertainty is worth resolving early rather than late. Micro Entity Accounts provides professional preparation and filing support for first-year limited company accounts, including a review of your accounting records, preparation of the statutory accounts and delivery to Companies House where required. Directors remain responsible for the company’s compliance, but you do not have to work it out alone — clear pricing and straightforward guidance on what is needed make the process considerably easier to manage.

They are the first set of statutory annual accounts your company prepares for its initial accounting period, which begins on incorporation and ends on the company's first accounting reference date. Depending on the reporting framework used and the company's circumstances, they normally include a balance sheet, a profit and loss account where required, supporting notes and, where applicable, a directors' report. They are prepared from the company's accounting records and delivered to Companies House where required.

The due date is not identical for every company. Companies House sets an accounting reference date when the company is incorporated, and the deadline for the first accounts is calculated from that date, with the first period often covering more than twelve months. Because the calculation depends on your company's own dates, the practical approach is to check the deadline shown on your Companies House record and begin preparation well before it falls due.

Typically bank statements and transactions, sales and income records, purchase invoices and expense receipts, details of any assets purchased, share capital information and any director loan or finance arrangements. Where the company has run payroll or is VAT registered, those records are relevant as well. If activity has been minimal, we still review what exists, including the incorporation documents and share capital position, to work out the correct reporting treatment.

A limited company is generally expected to prepare and file statutory accounts with Companies House where required, whether or not it has started trading. A company with no significant accounting transactions may be in a different reporting position, but that depends on its individual circumstances and the applicable rules rather than on an automatic assumption that it is dormant. Directors in Broxbourne are better off confirming the position early rather than assuming nothing is due.

Possibly. Filing obligations do not simply disappear because a company has been quiet, and having limited activity is not the same as being exempt. Where there have been no significant transactions, the reporting position depends on whether the company meets the relevant conditions and on the rules that apply to it. Reviewing this before the deadline is far simpler than dealing with a missed filing afterwards.

No. Statutory accounts are delivered to Companies House where required, while a Corporation Tax Return such as a CT600 is submitted to HMRC where applicable. The figures in the accounts often inform the tax position, but the two filings serve different purposes and go to different bodies, and completing one does not complete the other. A company's first Corporation Tax accounting period may also differ from its statutory accounts period.

Some newly incorporated companies do qualify for the micro-entity framework, which uses FRS 105 as its financial reporting standard, but eligibility depends on the company's circumstances and the requirements applicable to the relevant accounting period. It is not automatic for startups, nor for every company with modest turnover, and it should be assessed for each period rather than assumed at incorporation.

No. A confirmation statement is a separate filing that confirms the company's registered details are correct, and it does not take the place of statutory accounts or a Corporation Tax Return. A limited company may need to submit all of these, depending on its circumstances. Keeping Companies House information up to date is a distinct responsibility from preparing and filing the accounts.
