CT600 Tax Return Filing in Lincoln – Prepare and File Your Company Tax Return with HMRC

Filing a Company Tax Return is a routine but important part of running a limited company, and CT600 Tax Return Filing in Lincoln is exactly what we help with. The CT600 is the return a company uses to report its Corporation Tax position to HMRC. It brings together the company’s income, allowable deductions, tax adjustments and the resulting Corporation Tax liability, based on the company’s own circumstances. Our service covers preparing the CT600, checking the figures behind it and submitting the Company Tax Return to HMRC, so you have a clear record of what has been filed and why. It is important to understand that the CT600 is not the same as your statutory accounts. Statutory accounts are prepared for the company’s members and filed with Companies House, while the CT600 is a tax filing submitted to HMRC. The two are related — the accounting figures usually form the starting point for the Corporation Tax computation — but they are separate obligations with separate purposes. Working with a professional team helps you keep your Corporation Tax records organised, apply the right tax adjustments, and approach your filing with confidence.

We worked with a few different accountants before finally settling with Accotax, and we’re really glad we did. Their team is great. Abdul is responsive and easy to reach whenever I have a question, which makes a big difference. They take the time to understand how our business works and what our needs are. They are very knowledgeable, and when they don’t have the answer straight away, they take the time to look into it and get back to us quickly. Anum, who looks after our account on a day-to-day basis, including reconciling invoices and preparing the annual accounts, is amazing. She is professional, efficient, and follows the processes we have put in place together. She's also very quickin getting back to us whenever needed. We’re very happy to work with her and hope to continue doing so for as long as possible. Overall, Accotax has made our accounting experience much smoother and easier. We see them as a long-term partner as our business continues to grow. I would 100% recommend them.

I have really impressed to date with all dealings with Accotax highly enough. From day one, they've made what can often be a complicated and stressful part of running a business feel straightforward and hassle-free. A special mention has to go to Anum, who has been friendly, incredibly responsive, and genuinely cares about providing the best possible service. No question is ever too much trouble, and she consistently goes above and beyond to make sure everything is dealt with efficiently. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend you to anyone looking for an accountant they can genuinely trust.

What a CT600 Means for Micro-Entity Companies in Lincoln

It is worth being clear about the terminology here: there is no separate official “micro-entity CT600” form. CT600 is the name of the Company Tax Return used for companies generally, and a company that operates as a micro-entity — typically a very small company that qualifies to prepare simpler accounts under the micro-entities regime — still uses that same CT600 where it is required to file a Company Tax Return. Not every micro-entity will owe Corporation Tax; whether Corporation Tax is payable depends on the company’s own circumstances and taxable position. What matters is that a micro-entity can still have Corporation Tax obligations, and where HMRC requires a Company Tax Return, the company needs to complete and submit it. That filing is separate from the statutory accounts the company prepares and files with Companies House. The accounts and accounting records often provide the starting point for the Corporation Tax calculation, but the taxable profit used for the CT600 can differ from the accounting profit shown in the accounts, because the Corporation Tax computation may require adjustments — for example, adding back disallowable expenditure or claiming reliefs and allowances that apply to the company. The accounting framework a company adopts does not by itself determine its Corporation Tax liability. It is also important not to confuse the CT600 filing with payment of Corporation Tax: filing the return and paying any tax due are distinct obligations. If you are unsure how this applies to your company, we can review your position and explain it clearly.

A CT600 is the form used to file a Company Tax Return with HMRC. It sets out the company's Corporation Tax position for an accounting period, including income, allowable deductions, any tax adjustments and the resulting Corporation Tax liability based on the company's circumstances. In most cases the CT600 is filed electronically, and it is normally accompanied by a Corporation Tax computation and, depending on the company's situation, a copy of the statutory accounts. It is a tax filing rather than a set of accounts, so it serves a different purpose from the documents a company files at Companies House.

Yes — they are separate documents with separate purposes and separate recipients. Statutory accounts are prepared for the company's members and filed with Companies House. The CT600 is a Company Tax Return submitted to HMRC to report the company's Corporation Tax position. The two are connected, because the accounting figures in the accounts are usually the starting point for the Corporation Tax computation, but the figures can differ once tax adjustments are applied. Filing your accounts does not automatically mean your Company Tax Return has been filed, and a CT600 filing does not replace the accounts filing.

A company generally needs to file a Company Tax Return when HMRC has issued a notice to deliver one, and companies can also have obligations in other circumstances set out in HMRC guidance. Whether a particular company must file, and for which accounting period, depends on its own position. If you are unsure whether a return is due for your company, it is worth checking the notice or guidance you have received, or asking us to confirm the position before the filing date passes.

There is no separate micro-entity version of the CT600 — a company that operates as a micro-entity uses the same Company Tax Return as other companies, and only where it is required to file one. Not every micro-entity will owe Corporation Tax, and whether tax is payable depends on the company's taxable position and circumstances. A micro-entity can still have Corporation Tax obligations, so the accounts and accounting records should be kept in good order so that the figures needed for any required Company Tax Return can be prepared accurately.

The Corporation Tax computation is the working paper that starts with the company's accounting profit and applies the necessary tax adjustments to arrive at the taxable profit and the Corporation Tax liability. The CT600 is the actual return that reports those figures to HMRC. In practice they are prepared together: you work out the numbers in the computation first, then enter the resulting figures onto the CT600 and submit it. Preparing one without the other would leave gaps, which is why the two are usually handled as a single piece of work.

The starting point is normally the accounting profit shown in the company's accounts for the accounting period. From there, the Corporation Tax computation may require adjustments — for example, adding back expenditure that is not allowable for tax purposes, or deducting items that are treated differently for tax, and taking account of any reliefs or allowances that apply to the company. The result is the taxable profit used to calculate the Corporation Tax liability. Because these adjustments depend on the company's own transactions and circumstances, no two computations look exactly the same.

No. Filing the CT600 and paying any Corporation Tax due are two separate obligations. Submitting the return tells HMRC what the company's position is for the period; payment is a separate step with its own arrangements and timing. A company can file its return and have nothing to pay, or it may need to make a payment in line with HMRC's guidance. It is worth keeping track of both so that neither catches you out.

HMRC can apply penalties and charge interest where a Company Tax Return is filed late, and the outcome can depend on how late the return is, whether tax remains unpaid and the company's particular circumstances. Because the rules and amounts can change, we would always recommend checking HMRC's current guidance or speaking to us about your own position rather than relying on a general figure. The practical step is to get the return prepared accurately and submitted as soon as possible, with your records organised so the figures can be pulled together quickly.
