CT600 Tax Return Filing in Kilmarnock — Company Tax Return Preparation and HMRC Submission

Every UK company that HMRC requires to file a Company Tax Return needs a CT600 prepared and submitted, supported by a Corporation Tax computation that explains how the figures were reached. Our CT600 Tax Return Filing service in Kilmarnock is built around exactly that: we work through your accounting records, review the numbers for the tax adjustments that may be needed, set out the resulting taxable profit and Corporation Tax position, and file the return with HMRC. It is worth being clear about one thing from the outset — a CT600 is not the same as the statutory accounts filed with Companies House. They are separate obligations with separate audiences, and filing one does not discharge the other. We help you keep both in order, explain what is being reported and why, and take the administrative weight off your desk so you can get on with running the business. Whether your company has straightforward, single-director affairs or something more involved, the aim is the same: accurate figures, a properly prepared Company Tax Return, and a filing process you can actually follow.

We worked with a few different accountants before finally settling with Accotax, and we’re really glad we did. Their team is great. Abdul is responsive and easy to reach whenever I have a question, which makes a big difference. They take the time to understand how our business works and what our needs are. They are very knowledgeable, and when they don’t have the answer straight away, they take the time to look into it and get back to us quickly. Anum, who looks after our account on a day-to-day basis, including reconciling invoices and preparing the annual accounts, is amazing. She is professional, efficient, and follows the processes we have put in place together. She's also very quickin getting back to us whenever needed. We’re very happy to work with her and hope to continue doing so for as long as possible. Overall, Accotax has made our accounting experience much smoother and easier. We see them as a long-term partner as our business continues to grow. I would 100% recommend them.

I have really impressed to date with all dealings with Accotax highly enough. From day one, they've made what can often be a complicated and stressful part of running a business feel straightforward and hassle-free. A special mention has to go to Anum, who has been friendly, incredibly responsive, and genuinely cares about providing the best possible service. No question is ever too much trouble, and she consistently goes above and beyond to make sure everything is dealt with efficiently. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend you to anyone looking for an accountant they can genuinely trust.

What Is a CT600 Tax Return for a Micro-Entity Company?

There is no separate micro-entity CT600. There is one Company Tax Return — the CT600 — used by companies generally, whatever their size, including companies that prepare their statutory accounts under a micro-entity accounting framework. What changes with size is the level of detail in the accounts and the complexity of the tax work standing behind the return, not the form itself. Where HMRC requires your company to file a Company Tax Return, you will complete a CT600 reporting the company’s income, deductions and resulting Corporation Tax position. The accounts you prepare feed into the Corporation Tax computation, but they do not by themselves determine the tax liability. Taxable profit can be different from accounting profit, because the computation may need adjustments — for example for expenses that are not allowable for tax, capital allowances, non-taxable income, or timing differences. Not every micro-entity will owe Corporation Tax; whether anything is payable depends on the company’s own taxable position and circumstances. It is also important to separate the two obligations: submitting the CT600 to HMRC and paying any Corporation Tax that falls due are distinct, each with its own timing. Our CT600 Tax Return Filing service supports companies in Kilmarnock and further afield, and we are always happy to explain how the process applies to your particular company.

Micro-Entity CT600 FAQs

The CT600 is the form used to submit a Company Tax Return to HMRC. It reports the company's income, deductions and resulting Corporation Tax position for the accounting period, and it is normally filed alongside a Corporation Tax computation and a copy of the statutory accounts. It is a return to HMRC, not an accounts filing to Companies House, so it sits alongside your other filing obligations rather than replacing any of them.

Yes, they are separate obligations. Statutory accounts are prepared under an accounting framework and filed with Companies House; the CT600 is filed with HMRC. The two draw on the same underlying records, and the accounts figures usually form the starting point for the tax computation, but they serve different purposes, are prepared under different rules in places, and follow their own filing arrangements. Completing one does not satisfy the other.

They are connected but not the same thing. The computation is the working document that begins with your accounting profit, applies the tax adjustments required, and arrives at the taxable profit and the Corporation Tax figure. The CT600 is the return form on which those results are reported to HMRC. You need the computation in order to complete the CT600 accurately, but the calculation and the return itself are prepared as separate pieces of work.

It depends on whether HMRC requires your company to file a Company Tax Return. There is no separate micro-entity CT600 form — a company that is required to file uses the standard CT600, and many smaller companies find the process relatively straightforward. The size of the company affects how the statutory accounts are prepared, not which tax return form is used. If you are unsure whether your company has been asked to file, we can check the position for you.

Typically we would need the company's accounting records and draft or final accounts, details of income and expenses, fixed asset and capital allowance information, any brought-forward losses, details of loans or other transactions that may need reporting, and the company's registration details for HMRC. Gaps and loose ends in the records are common in practice, and working through them is part of what we do — you do not need everything perfectly tidy before speaking to us.

The starting point is usually the accounting profit shown in the accounts. From there the computation adds back expenses that are not allowable for tax, deducts items that are not taxable or that qualify for relief, replaces depreciation with capital allowances, and reflects any other adjustments relevant to the company's circumstances. The end result is the taxable profit on which Corporation Tax is calculated, and it will often differ from the accounting profit reported in the accounts.

No. Filing the return is how the company reports its position to HMRC; paying Corporation Tax is a separate obligation, and the payment can fall due at a different point from the filing. Completing the CT600 will normally establish what is owed, but submitting the return does not itself settle the liability — the two need to be tracked independently.

Yes. A company can appoint an agent to prepare and file its Company Tax Return, and we do exactly that as part of our CT600 Tax Return Filing service for companies in Kilmarnock and beyond. You remain responsible for the accuracy of the information supplied and for making sure any tax is paid, but the preparation, the Corporation Tax computation and the HMRC submission can all be handled on your behalf.
