I worked with Accotx on a HMRC reclaim and overall, they did ultimately deliver on their promise, which I appreciate. The process did take longer than any of us expected, partly due to external delays with the tax authorities, and partly because there were some hiccups in communication and follow-up. However, despite those challenges, they stayed professional and stuck to the original agreed terms. If you’re considering using them, be prepared to stay in regular contact to keep things moving along. They are absolutely capable, have the expertise and willing to work with you, and overall improving their services over time. I would certainly return for any future needs.

I highly recommend Imran to anyone looking for a reliable and knowledgeable accountant. He helped me sort out a very complicated backlog of accounts and prepared my overdue tax returns with professionalism and attention to detail. Throughout the process, he was incredibly patient, took the time to answer all of my questions, and explained everything clearly. He guided me through each step and helped rectify issues that had built up over time, making what felt like an overwhelming situation much more manageable. I'm very pleased with the service I've received and truly appreciate his support. If you need help with your accounts or taxes, I would highly recommend Imran.

Prepare, review and file your annual accounts

Annual Accounts Filing generally involves preparing accounts from your company’s financial information for the relevant accounting period, reviewing the figures and disclosures, and submitting them to Companies House where required. The accounts are prepared under the accounting framework that applies to your company, which may be the micro-entities regime or another suitable framework. We can support each stage, from preparation through to Companies House accounts filing.

Which limited companies need annual accounts filing?

Annual Accounts Filing responsibilities generally apply to UK registered limited companies, including Huddersfield-based micro-entities, dormant companies, one-director companies and other eligible small companies. The format, content and filing requirements can vary depending on company size, accounting period, dormant status, the applicable accounting framework and any available exemptions. Because of this, the accounts one company files may look quite different from another’s.

Annual accounts are the statutory accounts a limited company prepares for a financial period. They set out information about the company's financial position and performance for that accounting period and are prepared using the accounting framework applicable to the company. Depending on the company's size and circumstances, the accounts may include a balance sheet, a profit and loss account, notes and other required statements or information. They are then filed with Companies House where the company is required to do so.

Annual Accounts Filing responsibilities generally apply to UK registered limited companies, including companies based in Huddersfield. However, the exact position depends on the company's circumstances — its size, its accounting period, whether it is dormant, the accounting framework it uses and any filing exemptions that apply. Some companies qualify for simpler or reduced disclosure, so not every company files an identical set of accounts. It is worth checking the requirements for your specific company rather than assuming they match another company's.

The deadline depends on your company's accounting reference period and its individual circumstances, so there is no single date that applies to every company. Private companies generally have a Companies House filing deadline linked to their accounting reference date, but the exact date should be confirmed for the company in question. Directors remain responsible for making sure the accounts are prepared and filed on time, even when an accountant or filing service submits them on the company's behalf. It is sensible to check your deadline early and work back from it.

Annual accounts for a limited company are generally filed with Companies House. This is separate from anything submitted to HMRC. Filing annual accounts with Companies House does not itself constitute filing a Company Tax Return, and Companies House filing deadlines are not the same as HMRC Corporation Tax filing or payment deadlines. If you use an accountant or a filing service, they will normally handle the Companies House accounts filing on your behalf, but the directors stay responsible for what is filed and when.

The contents depend on the company's size, its applicable accounting framework and current Companies House requirements. Annual accounts may include a balance sheet, a profit and loss account, notes to the accounts and other statements or disclosures where required. Smaller companies, including those using the micro-entities regime, may be able to provide less detail than larger companies. There is no single template that fits every company, so the accounts should be prepared to match your company's actual reporting position.

No. Annual accounts, a Company Tax Return (CT600) and a confirmation statement are three different things. Annual accounts are filed with Companies House and report on the company's financial position and performance. A CT600 is submitted to HMRC for Corporation Tax purposes, and information from the accounts may be used when preparing the company's Corporation Tax computation and return — but filing accounts with Companies House is not the same as filing a Company Tax Return with HMRC. A confirmation statement is a separate Companies House filing that confirms company details. Annual Accounts Filing, VAT Returns, payroll, Self Assessment and general tax advice are also distinct areas.

Dormant companies can still have Annual Accounts Filing responsibilities with Companies House. Being dormant for Corporation Tax purposes does not automatically mean the company is exempt from filing annual accounts with Companies House, as the two are different regimes with different rules. Dormant accounts may be prepared and filed in a simpler form where the relevant conditions are met, and the position should be checked for your company. We can help with dormant accounts preparation and the related Companies House filing where that applies.

Micro-entities may qualify for the micro-entities regime and may prepare accounts using FRS 105 where the regime is applicable and chosen. For accounting periods beginning on or after 6 April 2025, a company generally needs to meet at least two of three conditions to qualify as a micro-entity: turnover of no more than £1 million, a balance sheet total of no more than £500,000, and an average number of employees of no more than 10 — subject to applicable rules and exclusions. Meeting those figures does not automatically mean every company qualifies, so eligibility should be considered properly. Accounts prepared under the micro-entities regime can still be filed with Companies House as part of your Annual Accounts Filing.
