I highly recommend Imran to anyone looking for a reliable and knowledgeable accountant. He helped me sort out a very complicated backlog of accounts and prepared my overdue tax returns with professionalism and attention to detail. Throughout the process, he was incredibly patient, took the time to answer all of my questions, and explained everything clearly. He guided me through each step and helped rectify issues that had built up over time, making what felt like an overwhelming situation much more manageable. We worked with a few different accountants before finally settling with Accotax, and we’re really glad we did. Their team is great. Abdul is responsive and easy to reach whenever I have a question, which makes a big difference. They take the time to understand how our business works and what our needs are. They are very knowledgeable, and when they don’t have the answer straight away, they take the time to look into it and get back to us quickly. Anum, who looks after our account on a day-to-day basis, including reconciling invoices and preparing the annual accounts, is amazing. She is professional, efficient, and follows the processes we have put in place together. She's also very quickin getting back to us whenever needed. We’re very happy to work with her and hope to continue doing so for as long as possible. Overall, Accotax has made our accounting experience much smoother and easier. We see them as a long-term partner as our business continues to grow. I would 100% recommend them.

I have really impressed to date with all dealings with Accotax highly enough. From day one, they've made what can often be a complicated and stressful part of running a business feel straightforward and hassle-free. A special mention has to go to Anum, who has been friendly, incredibly responsive, and genuinely cares about providing the best possible service. No question is ever too much trouble, and she consistently goes above and beyond to make sure everything is dealt with efficiently. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend you to anyone looking for an accountant they can genuinely trust.

─── OVERDUE ACCOUNTS EXPLAINED

What Overdue Company Accounts Mean — and Why It Helps to Act Early

Company accounts become overdue when the accounting period has ended, the statutory filing deadline has passed and the required accounts have still not been delivered to Companies House. That deadline is not identical for every company — it can depend on the company’s accounting reference date, whether these are a first set of accounts and other circumstances — so the sensible starting point is to confirm which period or periods remain outstanding and what has already been filed. Once accounts are overdue, the obligation to prepare and file them does not disappear. Companies House still expects to receive the statutory accounts for each affected period, and late-filing penalties may apply where the applicable deadline has been missed, although how any penalty is assessed depends on the circumstances and the company’s filing history. Leaving the position unchanged rarely makes it simpler. Directors in Martock who arrange Overdue Company Accounts Filing support early are generally better placed to understand what is outstanding, pull together the records needed and approach Companies House filing in a structured way. Companies House does not prepare accounts on a company’s behalf, and delivering overdue accounts does not automatically settle separate matters such as confirmation statements or Corporation Tax Returns, so reviewing the wider compliance position is often worthwhile.

─── Why Choose Us

How Much Are Companies House Late Filing Penalties?

Penalties escalate the longer your accounts stay unfiled, and they double if your company also filed late in the previous financial year. Acting now is the single most effective way to cap what you owe.

Up to 1 month late

More than 6 months late

HMRC applies separate penalties for late Corporation Tax Returns, starting at £100 per return plus interest on unpaid tax. Companies House late-filing penalties can change, so check the current GOV.UK guidance for the latest penalty rules.

Company accounts become overdue once the statutory filing deadline for the relevant accounting period has passed and the required accounts have not yet been delivered to Companies House. The deadline is not the same for every company, as it can depend on the company's accounting reference date, whether this is a first set of accounts and other circumstances, so the practical first step is to confirm which periods remain outstanding and what has already been filed.

Accounts fall behind for all sorts of reasons: a particularly busy trading period, a change of bookkeeper, illness, an assumption that nothing needed to be filed, or simple uncertainty about which deadline applied. Whatever the cause, the filing obligation itself does not lapse because time has passed. The outstanding period still needs to be prepared and delivered to Companies House where required, and it usually becomes harder to reconstruct the figures the longer the delay runs on.

Potentially, yes. Dormancy and overdue filing are separate issues. A dormant company can still have an obligation to file annual accounts, and if those accounts were not delivered by the applicable deadline they can be overdue. Not trading does not automatically remove the requirement to file, although the content of accounts covering a dormant period will generally differ from those of a trading company.

Companies House can impose a late-filing penalty where accounts are delivered after the applicable deadline, and how any penalty is assessed depends on the circumstances. Paying a penalty does not remove the requirement to prepare and deliver the outstanding accounts — the filing obligation and the penalty are separate matters. Where a director believes there are grounds to appeal, eligibility depends on the circumstances and the applicable Companies House rules.

Each outstanding accounting period may need to be addressed separately, with its own set of accounts prepared and delivered to Companies House. Filing one period does not automatically clear the others, so it helps to map out precisely what is due and then work through the periods in a logical order, gathering the records for each one as you go.

An overdue filing does not by itself change a company's status, but Companies House may take action against companies that repeatedly fail to meet their filing obligations, and persistent non-compliance can increase the risk of compulsory strike-off action. If your company has already received a strike-off notice, or has been dissolved, the situation may need separate restoration or legal advice rather than being handled as an ordinary overdue accounts filing.

Yes. Statutory accounts are filed with Companies House where required, whereas a Corporation Tax Return such as a CT600 is submitted to HMRC where applicable, and a confirmation statement is a separate Companies House filing. Delivering overdue accounts does not automatically satisfy those other obligations, so it is worth reviewing the company's wider compliance position at the same time.

Micro Entity Accounts works with directors on Overdue Company Accounts Filing in Martock, beginning with a review of what remains outstanding and which records are available. We can prepare the required accounts, consider whether the company qualifies for the micro-entity framework under FRS 105 or needs a different reporting basis, and assist with delivering the documents to Companies House where applicable. Accounts are reviewed with you before anything is submitted, and where CT600 returns, confirmation statements or other filings are also outstanding, we can look at those as separate matters.
