We worked with a few different accountants before finally settling with Accotax, and we’re really glad we did. Their team is great. Abdul is responsive and easy to reach whenever I have a question, which makes a big difference. They take the time to understand how our business works and what our needs are. They are very knowledgeable, and when they don’t have the answer straight away, they take the time to look into it and get back to us quickly. Anum, who looks after our account on a day-to-day basis, including reconciling invoices and preparing the annual accounts, is amazing. She is professional, efficient, and follows the processes we have put in place together. She's also very quickin getting back to us whenever needed. We’re very happy to work with her and hope to continue doing so for as long as possible. Overall, Accotax has made our accounting experience much smoother and easier. We see them as a long-term partner as our business continues to grow. I would 100% recommend them.

I have really impressed to date with all dealings with Accotax highly enough. From day one, they've made what can often be a complicated and stressful part of running a business feel straightforward and hassle-free. A special mention has to go to Anum, who has been friendly, incredibly responsive, and genuinely cares about providing the best possible service. No question is ever too much trouble, and she consistently goes above and beyond to make sure everything is dealt with efficiently. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend you to anyone looking for an accountant they can genuinely trust.

───Late filing explained

Understanding late micro-entity accounts filing

When a qualifying company in Watchfield fails to file its statutory accounts with Companies House by the applicable deadline, those accounts become overdue. Late micro-entity accounts filing means the company still needs to prepare and submit the outstanding accounts, and it may also face a late-filing penalty depending on how late the filing is and the rules that apply. Our role is to help you get those accounts prepared and filed correctly, so you can address the overdue position as quickly as possible.

Companies House Late Filing Penalties

Penalties are charged automatically based on how late your accounts are delivered, and they double where accounts were also filed late for the previous financial year. The figures below apply to accounts delivered after the statutory deadline.

How late the accounts are Private company Public company
Up to 1 month late
£150
£750
1 to 3 months late
£375
£1,500
3 to 6 months late
£750
£3,000
More than 6 months late
£1,500
£7,500

Penalty levels are set by Companies House and may change. Separate HMRC penalties and interest may apply to late Corporation Tax Returns and unpaid tax. View the latest Companies House late filing penalty guidance.

─── Our late filing service

What's Included in Our Late Micro-Entity Filing Service?

Our fixed-fee service covers the accounts and filing requirements typically needed by qualifying micro-entity companies, from preparation to submission.

Overdue Accounts Preparation

We review the available bank statements, invoices and financial records and prepare the relevant micro-entity accounts based on the information available and the applicable reporting requirements.

Companies House Late Filing

Where applicable, we prepare the relevant statutory accounts and complete the Companies House filing process once the required information and approvals are in place.

Late Corporation Tax Returns

We prepare and file the matching CT600 returns with HMRC, calculate the tax due and confirm interest or penalty positions.

Multiple Year Catch-Up

Two, three or more years behind? We review each outstanding accounting period and prepare the relevant accounts in an appropriate sequence based on your company's circumstances and filing requirements.

Penalty Appeal Support

Where appropriate, we can review whether there may be grounds for an appeal and assist with preparing relevant supporting information. Any decision remains with the relevant authority.

Strike-Off & Dormant Filings

We can review the circumstances of a dormant company or proposed strike-off and help identify the relevant outstanding filing requirements.

Repeated late filing: what are the risks?

If a company in Watchfield repeatedly files its statutory accounts late, it can face escalating consequences. Each late filing may incur a separate Companies House penalty, and persistent failure to meet filing obligations can lead to more serious action, such as the company being struck off the register.

  • Continued failure to file means the company's filing history remains incomplete and public record is inaccurate.
  • Directors may face personal liability for the company's continued non-compliance, including potential disqualification proceedings in serious cases.

Behind on More Than One Accounting Period?

If your company has more than one outstanding set of accounts, the situation may require a review of the company’s filing history and available financial records. Micro Entity Accounts can help you understand which periods may need attention and discuss the work required to prepare the relevant outstanding accounts.

If your company is eligible for the micro-entity regime and you have missed the Companies House deadline for filing your statutory accounts, those accounts are now overdue. Late micro-entity accounts filing means you still need to prepare and submit the accounts to Companies House, even though the deadline has passed. Our team can help you prepare the accounts in the correct format (usually under FRS 105) and file them on your behalf.

The first step is to check how overdue your accounts are and gather the necessary financial information. We recommend getting professional assistance to prepare the outstanding accounts promptly. We can review your circumstances, confirm whether you qualify for the micro-entity framework, and work to bring your filing up to date. Remember that filing late does not remove the obligation to file, and delays can increase the risk of penalties.

Not every late filing results in a penalty, but Companies House may issue a penalty depending on how late the accounts are filed and the rules applicable to your company. The amount can vary, and in some cases you may be able to appeal if you have a reasonable excuse. We can help you understand the penalty process and, where appropriate, assist with an appeal, but we cannot guarantee the outcome.

Yes, as long as your company meets the eligibility criteria for a micro-entity for the accounting period in question. For accounting periods beginning on or after 6 April 2025, your company must meet at least two of the following conditions: annual turnover of no more than £1 million, a balance sheet total of no more than £500,000, and an average of no more than 10 employees. Meeting these thresholds does not automatically guarantee eligibility, as other rules may apply. We can review your situation to confirm whether you can use the micro-entity framework.

FRS 105 is the financial reporting standard that applies to qualifying micro-entities that choose to use the micro-entity accounting framework. If your company is eligible, your overdue statutory accounts should be prepared in accordance with FRS 105, which simplifies the reporting requirements. However, using FRS 105 is not automatic – your company must meet the legal definition of a micro-entity. Our accountants are familiar with FRS 105 and can prepare your outstanding accounts correctly.

No. Filing your statutory accounts with Companies House is separate from submitting your Corporation Tax Return (CT600) to HMRC. Even if your accounts are overdue at Companies House, you may also have a deadline to file your CT600 and pay any Corporation Tax due. Filing overdue accounts does not automatically complete your HMRC obligations. We can help you understand both sets of requirements and assist with preparing and filing your CT600 where needed.

Yes, we can assist with bringing multiple overdue accounts up to date. When a company has missed more than one filing deadline, it is essential to prepare and file each set of accounts for the relevant accounting periods. We will review your filing history, confirm which accounts are overdue, and work through them systematically. This may also involve addressing any related Corporation Tax returns for those periods.

To prepare your overdue micro-entity accounts, we will need your company's financial records for the relevant period, including details of income, expenses, assets, and liabilities. This may include bank statements, invoices, and any previous accounting records. If you have not kept full records, we can help you reconstruct them where possible. We will also need information about the company's directors and share capital. Once we have the necessary information, we can prepare the accounts and file them with Companies House.
