First Year Accounts for Limited Company in Woolwich: Professional Preparation and Filing Support

If your company has been incorporated recently, its first set of statutory accounts will fall due sooner than many directors expect. Micro Entity Accounts supports directors of newly incorporated and newly trading limited companies in Woolwich with the preparation of First Year Accounts for Limited Company, from reviewing the accounting records through to delivering the accounts to Companies House where required. We look at how your first accounting period has been set, what figures your bookkeeping can support, and whether your company meets the eligibility conditions for the micro-entity or small company reporting framework. The balance sheet, and a profit and loss account where applicable, are prepared on the right basis for your circumstances. Where Corporation Tax applies, a CT600 is a separate submission made to HMRC, and we are clear about how the two fit together without treating them as the same filing.

I highly recommend Imran to anyone looking for a reliable and knowledgeable accountant. He helped me sort out a very complicated backlog of accounts and prepared my overdue tax returns with professionalism and attention to detail. Throughout the process, he was incredibly patient, took the time to answer all of my questions, and explained everything clearly. We worked with a few different accountants before finally settling with Accotax, and we’re really glad we did. Their team is great. Abdul is responsive and easy to reach whenever I have a question, which makes a big difference. They take the time to understand how our business works and what our needs are. They are very knowledgeable, and when they don’t have the answer straight away, they take the time to look into it and get back to us quickly. Anum, who looks after our account on a day-to-day basis, including reconciling invoices and preparing the annual accounts, is amazing. She is professional, efficient, and follows the processes we have put in place together. She's also very quickin getting back to us whenever needed. We’re very happy to work with her and hope to continue doing so for as long as possible. Overall, Accotax has made our accounting experience much smoother and easier. We see them as a long-term partner as our business continues to grow. I would 100% recommend them.

I have really impressed to date with all dealings with Accotax highly enough. From day one, they've made what can often be a complicated and stressful part of running a business feel straightforward and hassle-free. A special mention has to go to Anum, who has been friendly, incredibly responsive, and genuinely cares about providing the best possible service. No question is ever too much trouble, and she consistently goes above and beyond to make sure everything is dealt with efficiently. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend you to anyone looking for an accountant they can genuinely trust.

Accounting reference date

First CT600 due

What Are First Year Accounts for a Micro Company, and Why Do They Matter for a New Limited Company in Woolwich?

First-year accounts are the first set of statutory accounts a newly incorporated limited company prepares for its initial accounting period. They are a legal obligation rather than an optional step, and they are not triggered by the company starting to trade. The duty to prepare annual accounts and to deliver them to Companies House where required comes from being a limited company, so the relevant period generally starts from the date of incorporation rather than from the first invoice, sale or customer. When a company is registered, Companies House sets an accounting reference date. The company’s first accounting period usually runs from its incorporation date to that first accounting reference date, and it may be longer than the twelve-month periods that follow. Because a first period can differ in length from later ones, the preparation and filing position for year one is not always identical to year two and beyond, so it is worth confirming the position for your own company rather than assuming the usual annual cycle applies. The accounts themselves set out the company’s financial position for that period. Depending on size and circumstances, the documents may include a balance sheet, a profit and loss account where applicable, and notes to the accounts, together with the directors’ responsibilities statement. The appropriate reporting framework depends on eligibility. A company that meets the relevant conditions for the period may be able to prepare micro-entity accounts under FRS 105, the financial reporting standard for qualifying entities using the micro-entity framework, while others may fall within the small company regime or need to report under a fuller framework. Not every new company qualifies, and low activity does not by itself make a company a micro-entity. It also helps to be clear about what first-year accounts are not. They are not the same as a Corporation Tax Return. A CT600 is submitted to HMRC where applicable, and the company’s first Corporation Tax accounting period and its statutory accounts period do not always line up exactly. First-year statutory accounts are also separate from the confirmation statement, which keeps Companies House informed about officers, share capital and registered details, and separate again from VAT returns and day-to-day bookkeeping records. Where accounts are required, they are generally filed with Companies House, and getting the figures right at the first attempt avoids having to revisit them later.

Does Your New Company Qualify as a Micro Entity?

Even in your first period, your company must meet the Companies House size criteria to file micro-entity accounts. A company generally needs to meet at least two of these three conditions.

First Year Accounts for Limited Company in Woolwich: Get Your Figures Prepared Properly

The first set of accounts often raises questions that are hard to answer from a Companies House reminder alone: which period is being reported on, whether partial records are enough, and which reporting framework actually applies. Micro Entity Accounts works with directors of newly incorporated companies in Woolwich to prepare and file First Year Accounts for Limited Company, reviewing bank transactions, invoices, share capital details and any director transactions before the accounts are put together. If your records are incomplete or your position is unclear, that can be sorted out before filing rather than after. Support is provided on clear, transparent fees with no hidden costs, so you know what is being prepared and why.

They are the first set of statutory annual accounts a limited company prepares, covering its initial accounting period — usually from the date of incorporation to its first accounting reference date. They report the company's financial position for that period and are delivered to Companies House where required. They are not the same as a Corporation Tax Return and they do not replace a confirmation statement.

The deadline depends on the company's incorporation date, the accounting reference date set by Companies House, and the filing requirements that apply to a first set of accounts, which can differ from the standard cycle used in later years. Rather than working from a general assumption, check the company's own Companies House record. We can review the position and explain what applies to your company.

It varies with the company's circumstances. Typically we would look at bank statements and transactions, sales and income records, purchase invoices and expenses, asset purchases, share capital details, any loans or director transactions, and payroll or VAT records where the company is registered for either. Where activity has been limited, the records may be minimal, but accounts may still be required.

A limited company is generally required to prepare and file annual accounts, and that includes the first set covering its initial accounting period. Filing is required even where trading has been limited, although the exact position depends on the company's circumstances and the applicable rules. Preparing the accounts properly is usually simpler than dealing with an overdue filing later.

No. Statutory accounts are delivered to Companies House where required, while a CT600 is a Corporation Tax Return submitted to HMRC where applicable. Figures from the accounts are often used when preparing the tax return, but the two serve different purposes and go to different places. Completing one does not complete the other.

Possibly. A limited company can still have statutory accounts and filing obligations even where it has not started trading or has had very few transactions. Whether a company is treated as dormant for Companies House purposes depends on its circumstances and the applicable rules, which is not the same as simply having low activity. It is worth checking before assuming nothing needs to be filed.

Some newly incorporated companies can, if they meet the eligibility conditions for the relevant accounting period. Qualifying does not follow automatically from being newly formed, and it is not guaranteed by modest turnover alone. Where a company is eligible, micro-entity accounts prepared under FRS 105 can reduce the balance sheet detail and note requirements, but the framework should always be confirmed against the company's actual position.

Where required accounts are not delivered by the applicable deadline, Companies House can take action, which may include penalties that increase the longer the accounts remain outstanding. The outcome depends on the circumstances and how overdue the filing is, and paying a penalty does not remove the requirement to file the outstanding accounts. If there is a reasonable excuse, appeal eligibility depends on the rules and the facts, and we can help you understand the options.
