First Year Accounts for Limited Company in Wisbech, Prepared and Filed with Professional Support

Your company’s first set of statutory accounts is one of the earliest compliance milestones after incorporation, and it deserves to be handled properly from the start. We provide practical support with First Year Accounts for Limited Company clients in Wisbech, beginning with a review of the accounting records you hold — bank transactions, sales and income records, purchase invoices, asset purchases, director transactions and share capital details — before preparing a balance sheet and, where applicable, a profit and loss account for the period. We then assist with filing those statutory accounts with Companies House where required. It is worth being clear that Companies House accounts filing and Corporation Tax are separate matters: a limited company may also need to submit a Corporation Tax Return such as a CT600 to HMRC, and that is a distinct filing with a different destination. Whether your company has been trading throughout the period, has started trading partway through, or has seen very little activity so far, we can help you understand what is needed and prepare the figures accurately.

He helped me sort out a very complicated backlog of accounts and prepared my overdue tax returns with professionalism and attention to detail. Throughout the process, he was incredibly patient, took the time to answer all of my questions, and explained everything clearly. We worked with a few different accountants before finally settling with Accotax, and we’re really glad we did. Their team is great. Abdul is responsive and easy to reach whenever I have a question, which makes a big difference. They take the time to understand how our business works and what our needs are. They are very knowledgeable, and when they don’t have the answer straight away, they take the time to look into it and get back to us quickly. Anum, who looks after our account on a day-to-day basis, including reconciling invoices and preparing the annual accounts, is amazing. She is professional, efficient, and follows the processes we have put in place together. She's also very quickin getting back to us whenever needed. We’re very happy to work with her and hope to continue doing so for as long as possible. Overall, Accotax has made our accounting experience much smoother and easier. We see them as a long-term partner as our business continues to grow. I would 100% recommend them.

I have really impressed to date with all dealings with Accotax highly enough. From day one, they've made what can often be a complicated and stressful part of running a business feel straightforward and hassle-free. A special mention has to go to Anum, who has been friendly, incredibly responsive, and genuinely cares about providing the best possible service. No question is ever too much trouble, and she consistently goes above and beyond to make sure everything is dealt with efficiently. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend you to anyone looking for an accountant they can genuinely trust.

Your first filing timeline

Incorporation

Your first filing timeline depends on your company's incorporation date and accounting reference date.

Accounting reference date

First accounts due

Normally 21 months after incorporation at Companies House.

First CT600 due

12 months after the end of the accounting period, with tax due earlier.

What Are First Year Accounts for a Micro Company, and How Do They Apply to a New Limited Company in Wisbech?

First year accounts are the first set of annual statutory accounts a limited company prepares for its initial accounting period. When a company is incorporated, Companies House sets an accounting reference date, and the first accounting period usually runs from the incorporation date to that reference date. That period is often longer than the twelve months used in later years, which is one of the reasons first-year accounts can catch directors out. The period does not run to a fixed template for every company — it depends on the incorporation date and the accounting reference date that applies. Alongside the accounting period, there is a filing deadline for delivering the accounts to Companies House, and again this is not identical for every company. We confirm the relevant dates based on your company’s own records rather than applying a general rule of thumb. An eligible company may be able to use the micro-entity accounting framework, and where it does, the financial reporting standard FRS 105 — the standard applicable to qualifying entities using that framework — will generally sit behind the figures. Eligibility is assessed against the applicable requirements for the relevant accounting period and depends on the company’s circumstances; a newly incorporated company is not automatically a micro-entity, and low turnover alone does not settle the question. Some companies instead fall within the small-company reporting framework, and others prepare accounts under a fuller framework. The right answer is determined by the company’s size, activity and reporting history, which is something we look at before any figures are drafted. It also helps to separate the different obligations that a new company may face. First-year statutory accounts are prepared for the company and, where required, delivered to Companies House. A Corporation Tax Return such as a CT600 is submitted to HMRC under separate rules, and the first Corporation Tax accounting period does not necessarily match the statutory accounts period. A confirmation statement is another separate filing, and submitting it does not satisfy the accounts requirement any more than filing accounts removes the need for a confirmation statement. Keeping accurate accounting records throughout the period makes all of this considerably easier to prepare and review.

Does Your New Company Qualify as a Micro Entity?

Even in your first period, your company must meet the Companies House size criteria to file micro-entity accounts. A company generally needs to meet at least two of these three conditions.

Business Turnover

Annual Turnover of £1 Million or less. (£632,000 previously)

Balance Sheet

Balance sheet total of £500,000 or less.(£316,000 previously)

Get Your First Year Accounts for Limited Company in Wisbech Prepared Accurately and Filed Correctly

If you have recently incorporated a company and are unsure what the first set of accounts should include, how the initial accounting period is calculated, or which reporting framework applies, you are in a familiar position — most directors are dealing with this for the first time. Micro Entity Accounts works with newly incorporated and newly trading limited companies on first-year accounts preparation and Companies House filing support, including a review of your accounting records, preparation of the balance sheet and profit and loss account where applicable, and clear guidance on any separate Corporation Tax or confirmation statement requirements. We will explain what is needed in plain terms, work from the records you already have, and let you know what else may be required before the accounts are finalised. Directors remain responsible for the company’s statutory obligations, but there is no reason to work through the first filing alone when professional support is available. Speak to us about your company’s first accounting period and take the uncertainty out of the process.

They are the first set of annual statutory accounts a company prepares, covering its initial accounting period — normally the period from the date of incorporation to its first accounting reference date. They typically include a balance sheet and, where applicable, a profit and loss account, along with any notes required by the reporting framework the company uses. Once prepared, they are delivered to Companies House where required.

The deadline depends on the company's incorporation date and its accounting reference date, so it is not the same for every company. Companies House sets the filing deadline by reference to those dates, and the first accounting period is often longer than twelve months. We check the dates that apply to your company and confirm the relevant filing deadline rather than relying on a general figure.

Usually we start with your accounting records for the period: bank statements and transactions, sales or income records, business expense receipts and purchase invoices, details of any assets purchased, director transactions and loans, share capital information, and payroll or VAT records where these apply. Not every company will have all of these — a company with limited activity may have very few transactions — so we review what exists and tell you if anything further is needed.

In most cases yes, statutory accounts must be prepared and delivered to Companies House where required, even if trading has been limited. Filing the accounts is not the same as submitting a Corporation Tax Return to HMRC, which is a separate obligation under separate rules. If activity has been minimal, the reporting position depends on the company's specific circumstances and the applicable rules rather than being automatically treated as dormant.

The principles are the same, but the first period can differ because it often covers more than twelve months and may include pre-trading activity. Later years generally cover a standard twelve-month period. The first filing also establishes the accounting reference date that future periods follow, which is why it is worth getting right.

No. Statutory accounts are prepared for the company and filed with Companies House where required, while a CT600 is a Corporation Tax Return submitted to HMRC where the company has a Corporation Tax obligation. Information from the accounts is often used when working out the Corporation Tax position, but the two filings serve different purposes and go to different places. The first Corporation Tax accounting period may not match the statutory accounts period.

Some newly incorporated companies do qualify for the micro-entity framework, and FRS 105 is the standard that applies to qualifying entities using it. Eligibility depends on the applicable thresholds and the company's circumstances for the relevant accounting period, and it is not automatic — a start-up or a company with low turnover does not qualify simply because it is small. We assess which framework fits before preparing the accounts.

Failing to deliver accounts by the applicable deadline can lead to consequences from Companies House, and the outcome is not identical in every case. Paying any penalty does not remove the requirement to file the outstanding accounts. If a company in Wisbech is already overdue, we can help prepare and submit the accounts and explain the position, including whether an appeal may be worth considering depending on the circumstances and applicable rules.
