First Year Accounts for Limited Company in Walden, Prepared and Filed With Confidence

Your company’s first set of statutory accounts sets the tone for everything that follows. Micro Entity Accounts supports newly incorporated and newly trading limited companies in Walden with the preparation of those first-year accounts, starting with a proper review of the accounting records you hold — bank transactions, sales and expense records, share capital information, asset purchases and any director transactions. From there, we prepare the statutory accounts in the format required for your company, including a balance sheet and, where applicable, a profit and loss account, and we file them with Companies House where required. It is worth being clear about one thing from the outset: filing statutory accounts with Companies House is not the same as dealing with Corporation Tax. A limited company may also need to prepare and submit a Corporation Tax Return, such as a CT600, to HMRC, and that is a separate obligation with its own purpose and destination. Our role is to help you understand which requirements apply to your company and to support you through the first accounting period without the guesswork.

He helped me sort out a very complicated backlog of accounts and prepared my overdue tax returns with professionalism and attention to detail. Throughout the process, he was incredibly patient, took the time to answer all of my questions, and explained everything clearly. We worked with a few different accountants before finally settling with Accotax, and we’re really glad we did. Their team is great. Abdul is responsive and easy to reach whenever I have a question, which makes a big difference. They take the time to understand how our business works and what our needs are. They are very knowledgeable, and when they don’t have the answer straight away, they take the time to look into it and get back to us quickly. Anum, who looks after our account on a day-to-day basis, including reconciling invoices and preparing the annual accounts, is amazing. She is professional, efficient, and follows the processes we have put in place together. She's also very quickin getting back to us whenever needed. We’re very happy to work with her and hope to continue doing so for as long as possible. Overall, Accotax has made our accounting experience much smoother and easier. We see them as a long-term partner as our business continues to grow. I would 100% recommend them.

I have really impressed to date with all dealings with Accotax highly enough. From day one, they've made what can often be a complicated and stressful part of running a business feel straightforward and hassle-free. A special mention has to go to Anum, who has been friendly, incredibly responsive, and genuinely cares about providing the best possible service. No question is ever too much trouble, and she consistently goes above and beyond to make sure everything is dealt with efficiently. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend you to anyone looking for an accountant they can genuinely trust.

What Are First Year Accounts for a Micro Company, and How Do They Fit Into a New Company's Obligations?

First-year accounts are the first set of annual statutory accounts a limited company prepares for its initial accounting period. They cover the period from incorporation — or from the date the company began its accounting period — up to its first accounting reference date. Directors of a newly incorporated company in Walden often assume that nothing needs to be done until the company has been running for some time, but that is not the case. Statutory accounts are a legal requirement for a limited company, and the reporting position applies even where activity has been limited or trading has not yet commenced. The first accounting period is not always the same length as later periods; Companies House rules allow for a first period that differs from the standard twelve months, and the exact period depends on the company’s incorporation date and accounting reference date. For that reason, it is worth checking the specific dates that apply to your company rather than assuming a standard pattern. A qualifying company may be able to prepare accounts under the micro-entity framework, using the financial reporting standard applicable to micro-entities, FRS 105. That said, eligibility is assessed against the applicable requirements for the relevant accounting period, and not every new or small company qualifies — turnover, balance sheet total, employee numbers and other conditions all feed into the assessment. A company might instead fall within the small-company regime, or need to prepare accounts under a fuller framework altogether. Which one applies should be determined from the company’s own circumstances rather than assumed. It also helps to separate the different filings that sit around a new company. First-year statutory accounts are delivered to Companies House where required. A Corporation Tax Return such as a CT600 is submitted separately to HMRC, and the company’s first Corporation Tax accounting period may not line up exactly with its statutory accounts period. A confirmation statement is a further, separate filing that keeps the company’s public information up to date, and filing accounts does not replace it. Understanding these distinctions early makes the whole first-year cycle far easier to manage.

Does Your New Company Qualify as a Micro Entity?

Even in your first period, your company must meet the Companies House size criteria to file micro-entity accounts. A company generally needs to meet at least two of these three conditions.

Business Turnover

Annual Turnover of £1 Million or less. (£632,000 previously)

Balance Sheet

Balance sheet total of £500,000 or less.(£316,000 previously)

Company Size

On an average 10 or less employees

Get Your First Year Accounts for Limited Company in Walden Prepared Accurately

If your company has recently been incorporated and you are unsure what the first set of statutory accounts needs to include, you are not alone — it is one of the most common questions directors raise in the first year. Records may be incomplete, the accounting reference date may be unclear, and it is easy to confuse a Companies House accounts filing with a Corporation Tax Return submitted to HMRC. Micro Entity Accounts can help you work through those questions, prepare the first-year accounts in the appropriate reporting framework where your company is eligible, and handle the Companies House filing where required. Everything is handled on a clear, fixed-fee basis, with transparent pricing and no hidden costs, so you know where you stand before work begins. The directors remain responsible for the company’s statutory obligations, but professional support takes the technical preparation and filing off your desk. If your first accounting period is approaching, it is worth getting the accounts reviewed early rather than leaving it to the last moment — speak to us about your first-year accounts in Walden.

They are the first set of annual statutory accounts a limited company prepares, covering its initial accounting period from incorporation (or the start of the period) up to its first accounting reference date. The accounts normally include a balance sheet and, where applicable, a profit and loss account, together with the supporting notes and statements required by the reporting framework that applies to the company. They are prepared from the company's accounting records and are filed with Companies House where required.

In general, yes — a limited company is expected to prepare and file statutory accounts for its accounting period, and that obligation is not removed simply because the company is new or has had limited activity. Where a company has had no significant accounting transactions, its reporting position depends on its specific circumstances and the applicable rules rather than automatically being treated as dormant. If you are unsure how this applies to your company, it is worth reviewing the position with an accountant before the filing date approaches.

The deadline depends on your company's incorporation date and its accounting reference date, so it cannot be assumed to be the same for every company. The first accounting period is often different in length from later periods, which is one of the reasons first-year deadlines catch directors out. Rather than guessing, check the accounting reference date recorded at Companies House and confirm the applicable filing deadline for your company, or ask an accountant to confirm it for you.

Most of the work is built from the company's accounting records. In practice that might include bank statements and transactions, sales and income records, purchase invoices and business expenses, details of assets bought or sold, share capital information, any loans or finance arrangements, director transactions, and payroll or VAT records where those apply to the company. Not every company will have all of these, and the exact list depends on what the business has actually done during the period.

No. Statutory accounts are prepared for the company and delivered to Companies House where required. A Corporation Tax Return, such as a CT600, is submitted separately to HMRC where the company has Corporation Tax obligations. The figures from the accounts are often used as a starting point when preparing the tax position, but the two filings serve different purposes and go to different places. Filing one does not complete the other, and a company's first Corporation Tax accounting period may not be identical to its statutory accounts period.

Some companies do qualify, but not automatically. Eligibility is assessed against the applicable limits and conditions for the relevant accounting period, and factors such as turnover, balance sheet total and employee numbers are taken into account. A company that does not meet the criteria may fall within the small-company regime or need to prepare accounts under a fuller framework. FRS 105 is the standard used by qualifying entities adopting the micro-entity framework, and the right approach should be confirmed from your company's own circumstances.

No, they are separate filings. The confirmation statement confirms that the information Companies House holds about the company — such as directors, registered office and share capital — is up to date, while the statutory accounts report on the company's financial position for the accounting period. A limited company may need to submit both, and filing the accounts does not satisfy the confirmation statement requirement.

Failing to file required accounts by the applicable deadline can lead to consequences from Companies House, and the outcome depends on how late the filing is and the circumstances involved. Paying any penalty does not remove the requirement to file the outstanding accounts. If a filing deadline has already passed, the priority is usually to file as soon as the accounts are ready and to consider whether an appeal is appropriate for your situation, which depends on the applicable rules. Professional support can help you understand the position and get the accounts finalised.
