First Year Accounts for Limited Company in Clevedon: Prepared, Reviewed and Filed with Professional Support

A newly incorporated limited company usually carries more statutory housekeeping than its directors expect, and the first set of accounts is where that becomes real. First Year Accounts for Limited Company in Clevedon means preparing that initial set of statutory accounts properly: building them from your accounting records, checking the figures make sense against what the company has actually done, and delivering them to Companies House where required. We also make the boundaries clear, including where a Corporation Tax Return such as a CT600 may be needed, because that is a separate submission to HMRC rather than part of the Companies House accounts filing. Whether the company has been trading for months or has only recently started, the aim is the same: accurate first-year accounts and a director who understands what has been filed and why.

I highly recommend Imran to anyone looking for a reliable and knowledgeable accountant. He helped me sort out a very complicated backlog of accounts and prepared my overdue tax returns with professionalism and attention to detail. Throughout the process, he was incredibly patient, took the time to answer all of my questions, and explained everything clearly. He guided me through each step and helped rectify issues that had built up over time, making what felt like an overwhelming situation much more manageable. I'm very pleased with the service I've received and truly appreciate his support. If you need help with your accounts or taxes, I would highly recommend Imran.

We worked with a few different accountants before finally settling with Accotax, and we’re really glad we did. Their team is great. Abdul is responsive and easy to reach whenever I have a question, which makes a big difference. They take the time to understand how our business works and what our needs are. They are very knowledgeable, and when they don’t have the answer straight away, they take the time to look into it and get back to us quickly. Anum, who looks after our account on a day-to-day basis, including reconciling invoices and preparing the annual accounts, is amazing. She is professional, efficient, and follows the processes we have put in place together. She's also very quickin getting back to us whenever needed. We’re very happy to work with her and hope to continue doing so for as long as possible. Overall, Accotax has made our accounting experience much smoother and easier. We see them as a long-term partner as our business continues to grow. I would 100% recommend them.

I have really impressed to date with all dealings with Accotax highly enough. From day one, they've made what can often be a complicated and stressful part of running a business feel straightforward and hassle-free. A special mention has to go to Anum, who has been friendly, incredibly responsive, and genuinely cares about providing the best possible service. No question is ever too much trouble, and she consistently goes above and beyond to make sure everything is dealt with efficiently. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend you to anyone looking for an accountant they can genuinely trust.

What Are First Year Accounts for a Micro Company, and Who Can Use That Framework in Clevedon?

First-year accounts are the first set of statutory accounts a company prepares for its initial accounting period. They are not optional simply because the company is new. A limited company incorporated in Clevedon, or anywhere else in the UK, generally has statutory accounts obligations from incorporation onwards, even where activity has been limited or trading has not yet begun. The first accounting period usually runs from the date of incorporation to the company’s first accounting reference date, although the length and end date depend on the company’s own incorporation details and on whether its accounting reference date has been changed. That matters, because a first period that is longer or shorter than a standard year affects which figures are being reported. Depending on the framework used, the accounts may include a balance sheet and, where applicable, a profit and loss account and supporting notes. Directors remain responsible for the company’s records and for ensuring its statutory obligations are met, even when an accountant prepares and files the accounts on the company’s behalf. If the company satisfies the eligibility conditions for the micro-entity framework, it may be able to prepare and file simpler accounts under FRS 105, the financial reporting standard applicable to qualifying micro-entities. Eligibility depends on the company’s circumstances and the requirements for the relevant accounting period, so it should be confirmed rather than assumed. Not every newly incorporated company is a micro-entity, and low turnover on its own does not decide the question. It is also worth separating the filings. Statutory accounts are delivered to Companies House where required. A Corporation Tax Return such as a CT600 is submitted to HMRC and deals with the company’s tax position, using information from the accounts but serving a different purpose and going to a different destination. A confirmation statement is different again: it confirms and updates the company’s registered details rather than reporting its financial position. Filing any one of these does not complete the others.

Does Your New Company Qualify as a Micro Entity?

Even in your first period, your company must meet the Companies House size criteria to file micro-entity accounts. A company generally needs to meet at least two of these three conditions.

Business Turnover

Annual Turnover of £1 Million or less. (£632,000 previously)

Balance Sheet

Balance sheet total of £500,000 or less.(£316,000 previously)

Company Size

On an average 10 or less employees

First Year Accounts for Limited Company in Clevedon, Prepared Accurately and Filed with Care

The first year tends to raise the most questions: which records actually matter, when the accounting period ends, what Companies House expects to receive, and whether the company qualifies for simplified reporting at all. Micro Entity Accounts works with newly incorporated limited companies and their directors on First Year Accounts for Limited Company preparation and Companies House filing, explaining each step in straightforward terms rather than leaving you to interpret the paperwork alone. If your records are patchy, or you are unsure which reporting framework applies, we can review what you have, tell you what is still outstanding, and help bring the accounts to a position where they can be filed. Clear pricing, no hidden costs, and support shaped around your company’s circumstances rather than a one-size-fits-all template — so your first set of statutory accounts is done properly from the outset.

They are the first set of statutory accounts covering the company's initial accounting period, which normally begins on the date of incorporation. Depending on the reporting framework used, they typically include a balance sheet and, where applicable, a profit and loss account and notes. They are prepared from the company's accounting records and delivered to Companies House where required.

It depends on your company's incorporation date and its accounting reference date. Companies House sets the first accounts filing deadline by reference to those dates, so two companies incorporated on different days will not necessarily share the same deadline. Rather than relying on a general rule of thumb, check the accounting reference date and filing date recorded against your company, or ask us to confirm the position for your specific circumstances.

In practice that usually means bank statements and bank transactions, sales and income records, purchase invoices and receipts, details of assets bought or sold, share capital information, any loans or finance arrangements, director transactions, and payroll or VAT records where those apply. A company with very little activity may need far less, but whatever is provided still needs to be complete enough to support the figures shown in the accounts.

In most cases, yes. A company incorporated in Clevedon or elsewhere in the UK generally has statutory accounts obligations from incorporation onwards, even where trading has not yet started, subject to its own circumstances and the applicable rules. Filing is made through Companies House, and it is separate from any Corporation Tax filing made to HMRC.

No. Statutory accounts report the company's financial position and are filed with Companies House where required. A Corporation Tax Return such as a CT600 is submitted to HMRC and addresses the company's tax position, while a confirmation statement simply confirms and updates the company's registered information. Completing one of these does not satisfy the others.

Where there have been no significant accounting transactions, the company's reporting position depends on its particular circumstances and the applicable rules rather than automatically being treated as dormant. Many companies with minimal or no trading activity still have accounts and filing obligations, so it is worth confirming the position instead of assuming nothing needs to be done.

It can, if it meets the eligibility conditions for the micro-entity framework for the relevant accounting period. Not every new company qualifies, and low turnover alone is not the test. Where a company does qualify, FRS 105 — the reporting standard applicable to qualifying micro-entities — may allow simpler accounts to be prepared. The appropriate framework should be confirmed based on the company's circumstances.

Failing to file required accounts by the applicable deadline can lead to Companies House consequences, and those consequences depend on the circumstances and the rules in force. Paying any penalty does not remove the requirement to file the outstanding accounts. If accounts are already overdue, the usual priority is to get them prepared and submitted, and professional support can help you work through what is needed. Appeals against penalties are possible only in certain circumstances, and eligibility depends on the applicable rules.
