I highly recommend Imran to anyone looking for a reliable and knowledgeable accountant. He helped me sort out a very complicated backlog of accounts and prepared my overdue tax returns with professionalism and attention to detail. Throughout the process, he was incredibly patient, took the time to answer all of my questions, and explained everything clearly. He guided me through each step and helped rectify issues that had built up over time, making what felt like an overwhelming situation much more manageable. We worked with a few different accountants before finally settling with Accotax, and we’re really glad we did. Their team is great. Abdul is responsive and easy to reach whenever I have a question, which makes a big difference. They take the time to understand how our business works and what our needs are. They are very knowledgeable, and when they don’t have the answer straight away, they take the time to look into it and get back to us quickly. Anum, who looks after our account on a day-to-day basis, including reconciling invoices and preparing the annual accounts, is amazing. She is professional, efficient, and follows the processes we have put in place together. She's also very quickin getting back to us whenever needed. We’re very happy to work with her and hope to continue doing so for as long as possible. Overall, Accotax has made our accounting experience much smoother and easier. We see them as a long-term partner as our business continues to grow. I would 100% recommend them.

I have really impressed to date with all dealings with Accotax highly enough. From day one, they've made what can often be a complicated and stressful part of running a business feel straightforward and hassle-free. A special mention has to go to Anum, who has been friendly, incredibly responsive, and genuinely cares about providing the best possible service. No question is ever too much trouble, and she consistently goes above and beyond to make sure everything is dealt with efficiently. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend you to anyone looking for an accountant they can genuinely trust.

When Can a Company File Dormant Company Accounts in Ryton?

A company is often considered dormant for Companies House purposes when it has not started trading, has stopped trading, or has no significant accounting transactions during the accounting period. However, dormancy is not simply the same as having no sales or no current activity – it depends on the company’s specific circumstances and the applicable rules. A company that is dormant for Companies House purposes may still need to file annual accounts and a confirmation statement. In addition, being dormant for Companies House is not the same as being dormant for HMRC Corporation Tax purposes. We can help you understand your position and prepare dormant company accounts where appropriate.

A Company May Be Dormant If:

It has been incorporated but has not started trading.

Trading has stopped and the company has no relevant ongoing activity.

Its only transactions are those that Companies House disregards when determining dormancy.

It is being retained for a future business purpose, subject to its actual activities and transactions.

─── How It Works

How The Filing Works

01

Send us your company details

Give us your company number and accounting reference date. That is usually everything we need to begin.

02

We confirm dormant status

We review the period against the Companies Act definition of dormancy and flag any transaction that would rule it out.

03

You approve the accounts

We prepare the dormant accounts and send them for a director's approval by email. No paperwork or postage.

04

We file and confirm

Your accounts go to Companies House and HMRC is notified. You receive the filed copies and acceptance confirmation.

Dormant Company Accounts FAQs

Still unsure where you stand? Reach out to our UK team at info@microentityaccounts.co.uk and we will review your filing history with you.

Dormant company accounts are annual accounts prepared for a company that is dormant under the relevant Companies House accounting requirements. They generally report that the company had no significant accounting transactions during the period, but they must still satisfy the applicable format and content rules. Dormant status does not mean the company can simply ignore its obligations to prepare and file accounts where required.

Generally yes. Most dormant companies are still required to file annual accounts with Companies House unless a specific exemption applies. Being dormant may affect the content of the accounts, but the accounts still need to be delivered by the company's statutory filing deadline. A confirmation statement is also separate and may still be required.

Some dormant companies may qualify for the micro-entity reporting framework if they meet the statutory size criteria for a micro-entity. Dormancy and micro-entity status are separate concepts, and not every dormant company automatically qualifies. We can review your company's eligibility and prepare accounts under the appropriate framework.

Companies House dormancy focuses on whether the company has significant accounting transactions during the relevant period. HMRC dormancy for Corporation Tax is assessed separately, and a company may need to notify HMRC if it wants to stop filing Corporation Tax Returns. Filing dormant accounts with Companies House does not automatically tell HMRC about your Corporation Tax position, so both obligations need to be considered on their own merits.

Yes, in most cases. A confirmation statement is a separate filing to Companies House that confirms your company's registered office, directors, shareholders and other statutory information. Dormant company accounts do not replace the confirmation statement, and a dormant company must still keep its information up to date and file a confirmation statement when it is due.

Not always, but this depends on your company's Corporation Tax position. If HMRC has agreed that the company is dormant for Corporation Tax purposes, it may no longer need to file further CT600 Corporation Tax Returns. However, every situation is different, and you should not assume that no Corporation Tax Return is required without checking with us or HMRC.

We usually need your company's details, confirmation that there have been no significant accounting transactions in the period, and, where relevant, the previous year's accounts. If the company was previously active, we may also need details of any prior balances that still need to be reflected. We will guide you through exactly what we require for your dormant accounts.
