What are dormant company accounts?

Dormant company accounts are statutory accounts filed with Companies House by a company that qualifies as dormant for that accounting period. They typically include a balance sheet and relevant notes, rather than a full profit and loss account, while stating that the company was dormant.The exact content depends on the company's type and eligibility.

Does a dormant company still need to file accounts?

Generally, yes. A dormant company must still prepare and deliver its annual accounts to Companies House unless a specific exemption applies. Being dormant does not automatically remove the filing obligation. The accounts must be filed even if the company has not traded.

Can a dormant company file micro-entity accounts?

Some dormant companies may also qualify as micro-entities under the micro-entity reporting framework. Eligibility depends on the company's structure and size, not just dormancy.
