We worked with a few different accountants before finally settling with Accotax, and we’re really glad we did. Their team is great. Abdul is responsive and easy to reach whenever I have a question, which makes a big difference. They take the time to understand how our business works and what our needs are. They are very knowledgeable, and when they don’t have the answer straight away, they take the time to look into it and get back to us quickly. Anum, who looks after our account on a day-to-day basis, including reconciling invoices and preparing the annual accounts, is amazing. She is professional, efficient, and follows the processes we have put in place together. She's also very quickin getting back to us whenever needed. We’re very happy to work with her and hope to continue doing so for as long as possible. Overall, Accotax has made our accounting experience much smoother and easier. We see them as a long-term partner as our business continues to grow. I would 100% recommend them.

I have really impressed to date with all dealings with Accotax highly enough. From day one, they've made what can often be a complicated and stressful part of running a business feel straightforward and hassle-free. A special mention has to go to Anum, who has been friendly, incredibly responsive, and genuinely cares about providing the best possible service. No question is ever too much trouble, and she consistently goes above and beyond to make sure everything is dealt with efficiently. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend you to anyone looking for an accountant they can genuinely trust.

When Can a Company File Dormant Company Accounts in Isle Of Lewis?

A company may be considered dormant for accounting purposes if it has no significant accounting transactions during the period. That said, dormancy is not automatic just because a company has not started trading, has no sales or is not yet active. The statutory test depends on the relevant Companies House and HMRC rules, and those rules are not identical. For example, a company that is dormant for Companies House purposes may still need to file annual accounts unless a specific exemption applies, and it will normally still need to submit a confirmation statement. For HMRC Corporation Tax purposes, a dormant company may need to notify HMRC, and once HMRC confirms that Corporation Tax Returns are no longer required, the company may stop submitting them. Being dormant does not remove the company’s legal obligations. Our team can review your company’s position and confirm whether dormant company accounts in Isle Of Lewis are the correct route for you.

A Company May Be Dormant If:

It has been incorporated but has not started trading.

Trading has stopped and the company has no relevant ongoing activity.

Its only transactions are those that Companies House disregards when determining dormancy.

It is being retained for a future business purpose, subject to its actual activities and transactions.

─── How It Works

How The Filing Works

01

Send us your company details

Give us your company number and accounting reference date. That is usually everything we need to begin.

02

We confirm dormant status

We review the period against the Companies Act definition of dormancy and flag any transaction that would rule it out.

03

You approve the accounts

We prepare the dormant accounts and send them for a director's approval by email. No paperwork or postage.

04

We file and confirm

Your accounts go to Companies House and HMRC is notified. You receive the filed copies and acceptance confirmation.

Dormant company accounts are a set of simplified statutory accounts prepared for a company that is dormant for accounting purposes. They are filed with Companies House to satisfy the annual accounts requirement. The accounts show that the company has had no significant accounting transactions during the relevant period. They are not simply 'no accounts' – dormant companies must still prepare and deliver the required accounts unless a specific exemption applies.

Yes, in most cases a dormant company is still required to file annual accounts with Companies House. Dormant status does not automatically exempt a company from its statutory filing obligations. Even if there are no transactions to report, the accounts must usually be prepared and submitted to Companies House each year. A confirmation statement must also be filed separately.

Companies House and HMRC treat dormancy differently. For Companies House, dormancy is generally about whether the company has had significant accounting transactions for the purposes of its annual accounts. For HMRC, dormancy for Corporation Tax purposes depends on the company's taxable activity and its Corporation Tax position. Filing dormant accounts with Companies House does not automatically tell HMRC that the company is dormant for Corporation Tax, and a separate notification may be required. It is important to consider both sets of obligations.

Yes. A confirmation statement is a separate annual filing with Companies House and is required for nearly all active companies on the register. It confirms the company’s registered office, directors, shareholders and other details. Even if your company is dormant and has no significant transactions, you will generally need to file a confirmation statement every 12 months. Filing dormant accounts does not satisfy this requirement.

A dormant company may also qualify as a micro-entity, but the two statuses are separate. Micro-entity status is based on size criteria under the Companies Act, while dormancy relates to the absence of significant accounting transactions. If a company meets both sets of requirements, it may be able to use the micro-entity framework when preparing its dormant accounts. We can assess your company's eligibility and advise on the most appropriate approach.

Companies House imposes late-filing penalties on any company, including dormant companies, that deliver their annual accounts after the statutory deadline. The penalty amount depends on how long the accounts are overdue. Dormant status does not automatically protect a company from penalties. If accounts are filed late, the penalty is separate from the obligation to file – the accounts must still be submitted. Our team can help bring your accounts up to date and explain the penalty position based on your circumstances.

Yes. If your dormant company has missed one or more annual accounts deadlines, we can assist in bringing the filings up to date. We will review your company's activity for the periods involved and prepare the dormant accounts in line with Companies House requirements. We will also advise on any confirmation statements that may be outstanding. While we cannot guarantee that late-filing penalties will be removed, we can help you get back into compliance.
