We worked with a few different accountants before finally settling with Accotax, and we’re really glad we did. Their team is great. Abdul is responsive and easy to reach whenever I have a question, which makes a big difference. They take the time to understand how our business works and what our needs are. They are very knowledgeable, and when they don’t have the answer straight away, they take the time to look into it and get back to us quickly. Anum, who looks after our account on a day-to-day basis, including reconciling invoices and preparing the annual accounts, is amazing. She is professional, efficient, and follows the processes we have put in place together. She's also very quickin getting back to us whenever needed. We’re very happy to work with her and hope to continue doing so for as long as possible. Overall, Accotax has made our accounting experience much smoother and easier. We see them as a long-term partner as our business continues to grow. I would 100% recommend them.Posted on Google![]()

Dormant company accounts are annual accounts prepared for a company that is dormant for Companies House accounting purposes. They are not simply 'no accounts' – they must still meet the applicable Companies House requirements. A company may be considered dormant if it has no significant accounting transactions during the period, but this depends on the specific rules and the company's circumstances. Even where a company is dormant, it may still be required to file accounts with Companies House.
Yes, in most cases a dormant company still needs to file annual accounts with Companies House. Dormant status does not automatically remove the filing requirement. Unless a specific exemption applies, the company must prepare accounts that meet the applicable reporting framework and file them by the statutory deadline. Filing dormant accounts is separate from other obligations such as the confirmation statement and any Corporation Tax requirements.
Some dormant companies may qualify as micro-entities and may be able to use the micro-entity reporting framework, but this is not automatic. Micro-entity status depends on the company's size, legal structure and accounting period, and it is separate from dormancy. A dormant company must consider its own eligibility before choosing a reporting framework. We can review your circumstances and help you determine the most appropriate approach.
Being dormant for Companies House purposes is not the same as being dormant for Corporation Tax purposes. Companies House dormancy relates mainly to accounting transactions in the annual accounts, while HMRC looks at whether the company has any Corporation Tax liability or activity. A company may be dormant for Companies House but still need to notify HMRC or file a Corporation Tax Return, depending on its circumstances. Filing dormant accounts with Companies House does not automatically tell HMRC that the company is dormant.
Yes, a dormant company generally still needs to submit a confirmation statement to Companies House at least once every 12 months. The confirmation statement is separate from dormant company accounts. It is used to keep Companies House information up to date, such as the registered office, directors, and share capital. Dormant status does not remove this obligation, so it is important to keep track of both deadlines.
Companies House may issue late-filing penalties if required accounts are not filed by the applicable deadline, and dormancy does not automatically protect a company from penalties. The penalty amount depends on how late the accounts are filed. If you have missed a filing deadline, we can help you prepare and file the outstanding accounts as quickly as possible, and we can discuss whether an appeal may be appropriate based on your circumstances.
To prepare dormant company accounts, we typically need details about the company itself, such as the company name, registered number, registered office, directors, and shareholder information. We will also need confirmation of the company's activity during the period and details of any transactions that may affect its dormant status. If you have previous accounts or a confirmation statement, these can help us ensure consistency and meet the applicable requirements.
