I highly recommend Imran to anyone looking for a reliable and knowledgeable accountant. He helped me sort out a very complicated backlog of accounts and prepared my overdue tax returns with professionalism and attention to detail. Throughout the process, he was incredibly patient, took the time to answer all of my questions, and explained everything clearly. We worked with a few different accountants before finally settling with Accotax, and we’re really glad we did. Their team is great. Abdul is responsive and easy to reach whenever I have a question, which makes a big difference. They take the time to understand how our business works and what our needs are. They are very knowledgeable, and when they don’t have the answer straight away, they take the time to look into it and get back to us quickly. Anum, who looks after our account on a day-to-day basis, including reconciling invoices and preparing the annual accounts, is amazing. She is professional, efficient, and follows the processes we have put in place together. She's also very quickin getting back to us whenever needed. We’re very happy to work with her and hope to continue doing so for as long as possible. Overall, Accotax has made our accounting experience much smoother and easier. We see them as a long-term partner as our business continues to grow. I would 100% recommend them.

I have really impressed to date with all dealings with Accotax highly enough. From day one, they've made what can often be a complicated and stressful part of running a business feel straightforward and hassle-free. A special mention has to go to Anum, who has been friendly, incredibly responsive, and genuinely cares about providing the best possible service. No question is ever too much trouble, and she consistently goes above and beyond to make sure everything is dealt with efficiently. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend you to anyone looking for an accountant they can genuinely trust.

When Can a Company File Dormant Accounts in Cheshunt?

A company may be considered dormant for accounting purposes if it has no significant accounting transactions during the relevant period. This can include companies that have not yet started trading, companies that have stopped trading, or companies retained for future use. However, dormancy is not simply the same as having no sales or no current activity – it depends on the company’s specific circumstances and the rules applied by Companies House. Importantly, a dormant company can still have filing obligations: the required annual accounts generally still need to be filed, and a confirmation statement may also be due. In addition, being dormant for Companies House purposes is not the same as being dormant for HMRC Corporation Tax purposes. HMRC’s treatment depends on the company’s Corporation Tax position, and separate notification may be needed. We can help clarify your company’s dormancy position and assist with preparing and filing the appropriate documents, but we always review the individual circumstances first.

A Company May Be Dormant If:

It has been incorporated but has not started trading.

Trading has stopped and the company has no relevant ongoing activity.

Its only transactions are those that Companies House disregards when determining dormancy.

It is being retained for a future business purpose, subject to its actual activities and transactions.

─── How It Works

How The Filing Works

01

Send us your company details

Give us your company number and accounting reference date. That is usually everything we need to begin.

02

We confirm dormant status

We review the period against the Companies Act definition of dormancy and flag any transaction that would rule it out.

03

You approve the accounts

We prepare the dormant accounts and send them for a director's approval by email. No paperwork or postage.

04

We file and confirm

Your accounts go to Companies House and HMRC is notified. You receive the filed copies and acceptance confirmation.

Dormant company accounts are the annual accounts prepared for a company that is dormant for accounting purposes under the relevant Companies House rules. They are filed with Companies House where required. The accounts must meet the applicable requirements, and any exemptions need to be considered based on the company's eligibility and circumstances.

Generally, yes. A company that is dormant for Companies House purposes may still need to prepare and file annual accounts unless a specific exemption applies. Dormant status does not automatically remove the filing obligation. The exact requirements depend on the company's type, eligibility and the applicable Companies House rules. We can review your company's situation to confirm what needs to be filed.

Companies House and HMRC use separate frameworks. A company might be dormant for Companies House purposes but still be within the Corporation Tax regime. For a company to be treated as dormant for Corporation Tax, it generally needs to notify HMRC and meet certain conditions, and even then a Corporation Tax Return may remain due in some circumstances. Filing dormant company accounts with Companies House does not automatically update HMRC. Both positions need to be considered separately.

It may be possible, but not all dormant companies qualify as micro-entities. Micro-entity status depends on meeting certain size criteria and other eligibility conditions. A dormant company that qualifies as a micro-entity may be able to use the simplified reporting framework, but dormancy and micro-entity status are separate matters. We can help determine the appropriate reporting framework for your company.

Yes, in many cases. A confirmation statement is a separate filing with Companies House from the annual accounts. Even if a company is dormant, it normally needs to keep its registered information up to date and submit a confirmation statement at least once every 12 months. Filing dormant accounts does not replace the confirmation statement requirement.

If a company is required to file accounts and misses the applicable deadline, Companies House may issue a late-filing penalty. The amount and process depend on how late the accounts are and the company's circumstances. Dormant status does not automatically protect a company from penalties. If the accounts have already been filed late, we can review your situation and explain your options without guaranteeing that a penalty will be reduced or removed.

Yes. If a company in Cheshunt has overdue accounts, we can assist in preparing and filing the outstanding dormant company accounts where appropriate. We will review the company's history, work out what is required for each overdue period, and help you get back on track with Companies House. Acting promptly can help prevent further issues, but we cannot guarantee that penalties will not apply.
