We worked with a few different accountants before finally settling with Accotax, and we’re really glad we did. Their team is great. Abdul is responsive and easy to reach whenever I have a question, which makes a big difference. They take the time to understand how our business works and what our needs are. They are very knowledgeable, and when they don’t have the answer straight away, they take the time to look into it and get back to us quickly. Anum, who looks after our account on a day-to-day basis, including reconciling invoices and preparing the annual accounts, is amazing. She is professional, efficient, and follows the processes we have put in place together. She's also very quickin getting back to us whenever needed. We’re very happy to work with her and hope to continue doing so for as long as possible. Overall, Accotax has made our accounting experience much smoother and easier. We see them as a long-term partner as our business continues to grow. I would 100% recommend them.Posted on Google![]()

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend you to anyone looking for an accountant they can genuinely trust.Posted on Google![]()

Give us your company number and accounting reference date. That is usually everything we need to begin.
We confirm dormant status
We review the period against the Companies Act definition of dormancy and flag any transaction that would rule it out.
You approve the accounts
We prepare the dormant accounts and send them for a director's approval by email. No paperwork or postage.
We file and confirm
Your accounts go to Companies House and HMRC is notified. You receive the filed copies and acceptance confirmation.

Dormant company accounts are the annual financial statements that a limited company must prepare and file with Companies House when it qualifies as dormant for that financial year. In most cases, a dormant company has not had significant accounting transactions during the period. But being dormant does not remove the requirement to file accounts – the company still needs to send its statutory accounts to Companies House by the applicable deadline, often using a shorter form suitable for a non-trading company.
Yes. A company that is dormant for Companies House purposes generally still has to file its annual accounts each year. Dormant status affects the content of the accounts but does not necessarily exempt the company from filing. There are some specific exemptions, but they depend on the company's structure and circumstances. A director should always confirm the current requirements before assuming that no accounts are needed.
Some dormant companies may also qualify as micro-entities and may be able to use the micro-entity accounting framework when preparing their accounts. However, micro-entity status and Companies House dormancy are separate concepts. Eligibility depends on meeting the relevant size criteria and other conditions. If both apply, the accounts may be prepared on a simplified basis, but eligibility must be reviewed first.
Companies House and HMRC have different definitions of dormancy. A company can be dormant for Companies House purposes but still be within the Corporation Tax regime if it has income or gains, or if HMRC has not agreed that it is dormant for Corporation Tax. Conversely, a company that is dormant for Corporation Tax may still need to file accounts with Companies House. Directors should treat the two regimes separately and check both obligations.
Yes, a dormant company generally still needs to file a confirmation statement with Companies House each year. The confirmation statement confirms that the company's registered office, directors, shareholders and other statutory records are up to date, and it is separate from the annual accounts. A dormant company may also need to notify Companies House of any changes, such as director changes, during the year.
If the required dormant company accounts are not filed by the statutory deadline, Companies House may issue a late-filing penalty. The penalty amount depends on how late the accounts are and the company's circumstances, so it is not a fixed figure for every company. Dormant status alone does not automatically protect a company from these penalties. If a filing is already late, the outstanding accounts should still be submitted as soon as possible, and any appeal would need to be reviewed against the current Companies House guidance.
Yes. Micro Entity Accounts can assist directors of dormant companies in Burton upon Trent with preparing overdue dormant company accounts and filing them with Companies House where appropriate. We can help you understand the company's current filing position, prepare the necessary documents and work to regularise outstanding filings. We cannot guarantee that penalties will not apply or be reduced, but we can review your circumstances and help you take the right steps.
You will need details about the company such as its registered number, registered office address, directors and shareholders, as well as the accounts dates for the financial year. For a genuinely dormant company, your accountant can usually confirm that no significant transactions have occurred and that the balance sheet reflects any opening share capital position. We will also need to confirm that no unrelated filing obligations are being ignored.
