CT600 Tax Return Filing in Houghton Le Spring – Prepare and File Your Company Tax Return with HMRC

If your company needs to report its Corporation Tax position to HMRC, our CT600 Tax Return Filing service in Houghton Le Spring is built to make that process clear and manageable. We prepare the Corporation Tax computation, review the figures in your accounting records, identify where tax adjustments may be required, and submit the Company Tax Return to HMRC on your behalf. It is worth being precise about what a CT600 is: it is the Company Tax Return submitted to HMRC, and it is not the same thing as the statutory accounts you file with Companies House. Those are separate obligations with separate purposes. Our focus is on accuracy, plain-English communication and taking the administrative weight off your shoulders, so you understand what has been filed, why the figures look the way they do, and what happens next.

We worked with a few different accountants before finally settling with Accotax, and we’re really glad we did. Their team is great. Abdul is responsive and easy to reach whenever I have a question, which makes a big difference. They take the time to understand how our business works and what our needs are. They are very knowledgeable, and when they don’t have the answer straight away, they take the time to look into it and get back to us quickly. Anum, who looks after our account on a day-to-day basis, including reconciling invoices and preparing the annual accounts, is amazing. She is professional, efficient, and follows the processes we have put in place together. She's also very quickin getting back to us whenever needed. We’re very happy to work with her and hope to continue doing so for as long as possible. Overall, Accotax has made our accounting experience much smoother and easier. We see them as a long-term partner as our business continues to grow. I would 100% recommend them.

I have really impressed to date with all dealings with Accotax highly enough. From day one, they've made what can often be a complicated and stressful part of running a business feel straightforward and hassle-free. A special mention has to go to Anum, who has been friendly, incredibly responsive, and genuinely cares about providing the best possible service. No question is ever too much trouble, and she consistently goes above and beyond to make sure everything is dealt with efficiently. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend you to anyone looking for an accountant they can genuinely trust.

What Is a Micro-Entity CT600 and How Does It Relate to CT600 Tax Return Filing?

There is no separate official “micro-entity CT600” form. The CT600 is the standard Company Tax Return used to report a company’s Corporation Tax position to HMRC, and it applies to companies generally, whatever their size. Where the term micro-entity comes in is on the accounts side: a company that meets the micro-entity criteria may prepare and file simpler statutory accounts, often under FRS 105, which reduces the disclosure burden at Companies House. That choice of accounting framework does not, on its own, determine what Corporation Tax is due, and it does not remove the need to deal with HMRC where a Company Tax Return is required. A micro-entity company can still have Corporation Tax obligations. If HMRC has issued a notice to deliver a Company Tax Return, or the company has taxable profits, a CT600 may need to be prepared and filed. The filing is separate from the company’s statutory accounts, and it is also separate from paying any Corporation Tax that is due. The figures in the accounting records and the statutory accounts usually form the starting point for the Corporation Tax computation, but the taxable profit reported on the CT600 is not always the same as the accounting profit shown in the accounts. Adjustments may be needed – for example, to add back disallowable expenditure or to account for capital allowances and other tax-specific reliefs and deductions. Our role in CT600 Tax Return Filing in Houghton Le Spring is to work through those adjustments with you, explain them properly, and make sure the return submitted reflects the company’s actual position.

A CT600 is the formal Company Tax Return that a limited company submits to HMRC to report its Corporation Tax position for an accounting period. It sets out the company's taxable profits, the Corporation Tax chargeable (if any), and the reliefs, allowances and deductions being claimed. Alongside the CT600 itself, supporting schedules and a Corporation Tax computation are usually prepared so the figures can be followed and checked. It is an HMRC document, not a Companies House one, and it is not the same as the statutory accounts.

No. They are two separate filings, made to two different organisations and serving different purposes. Statutory accounts are prepared under the applicable accounting framework and filed at Companies House, where they become part of the public record. A CT600 is filed with HMRC and reports the company's Corporation Tax position for the period. The accounts often provide the starting figures for the tax computation, but the CT600 answers a tax question rather than an accounting one, so the two documents can look quite different even where they cover the same accounting period.

It depends on the company's circumstances. A company that meets the micro-entity criteria may be able to prepare simpler statutory accounts, but that does not automatically exempt it from Corporation Tax filing. If HMRC has issued a notice to deliver a Company Tax Return, or the company has taxable profits and Corporation Tax to report, a CT600 will normally need to be filed. A dormant or non-trading company may be in a different position, which is why it is worth checking the specific facts rather than assuming either way. We can help you work out what applies to your company.

Yes, although the two are closely linked. The Corporation Tax computation is the working document that starts with the accounting profit from the accounts and adjusts it to arrive at the taxable profit – adding back disallowable items, deducting allowable ones, and applying capital allowances and other reliefs where relevant. The CT600 is the return form itself, submitted to HMRC, which reports the resulting figures and the Corporation Tax due. You generally cannot complete a CT600 properly without doing the computation work first, and we prepare them together so the numbers on the return are supported.

Taxable profit is not simply the profit shown in the accounts. The calculation starts from the accounting profit and then applies tax adjustments. Income that is not taxable may be removed, expenditure that is not allowable for tax purposes may be added back, capital allowances may replace depreciation, and other reliefs or deductions may be claimed where the company qualifies. The result is the taxable profit used to work out the Corporation Tax liability. Because the adjustments depend on the company's own transactions and records, the outcome varies from one company to another and should be worked through carefully rather than estimated.

No – filing and payment are separate obligations with separate processes. Submitting the Company Tax Return tells HMRC what the company's position is for the period. Paying any Corporation Tax that is due is a distinct step, and the amount payable depends on the taxable profit and the company's circumstances. A company can have a filing obligation without having a Corporation Tax liability, and equally, a company can owe Corporation Tax that needs to be paid separately from the return itself. It is worth keeping both in view so neither gets overlooked.

The two filings are made to different bodies and are governed by different rules, so one does not simply replace the other. A CT600 is prepared using the company's accounting records and the figures from its accounts, which means the accounts normally need to be completed first, even if they have not yet been filed at Companies House. Filing the tax return does not discharge any statutory accounts obligation the company has, and filing accounts does not discharge the Corporation Tax obligation. In practice, most companies deal with both as part of the same year-end process.

Yes. Many companies choose to have an accountant or tax agent prepare the Corporation Tax computation and CT600 and submit the return to HMRC on their behalf. You remain responsible for the accuracy of the information provided and for ensuring the company's filing obligations are met, so it is important to share complete records and to review the figures before submission. As part of our CT600 Tax Return Filing service in Houghton Le Spring, we can prepare the computation, explain the adjustments made, and file the return with HMRC once you are comfortable with it.
