We worked with a few different accountants before finally settling with Accotax, and we’re really glad we did. Their team is great. Abdul is responsive and easy to reach whenever I have a question, which makes a big difference. They take the time to understand how our business works and what our needs are. They are very knowledgeable, and when they don’t have the answer straight away, they take the time to look into it and get back to us quickly. Anum, who looks after our account on a day-to-day basis, including reconciling invoices and preparing the annual accounts, is amazing. She is professional, efficient, and follows the processes we have put in place together. She's also very quickin getting back to us whenever needed. We’re very happy to work with her and hope to continue doing so for as long as possible. Overall, Accotax has made our accounting experience much smoother and easier. We see them as a long-term partner as our business continues to grow. I would 100% recommend them.Posted on Google![]()

A Corporation Tax Return is the formal report a limited company makes to HMRC covering its profits, gains and any reliefs or allowances for a given accounting period. It is the mechanism HMRC uses to work out how much Corporation Tax the company owes, and for most companies it is submitted electronically in the form of a CT600. Preparing it involves more than copying figures from the accounts, because tax rules can require adjustments before the taxable profit is confirmed.
The CT600 is the HMRC form used to submit a Company Tax Return. It carries the company's identifying details, the accounting period covered, figures drawn from the statutory accounts and the tax calculations that sit behind them. Supporting schedules and computations are normally attached, and the return is filed with HMRC rather than with Companies House. Where a company's circumstances are straightforward, the return may be relatively short; where there are adjustments, losses or other matters to consider, the supporting calculations matter more.
No. There is no separate micro-entity Corporation Tax Return or a distinct CT600 for micro companies. Micro-entity status relates to the accounting framework used for statutory accounts, and whether a company qualifies depends on the applicable eligibility criteria, the accounting period and the company's own circumstances. For Corporation Tax, a micro company generally deals with HMRC through the same Corporation Tax Return process as any other company, subject to its own figures and adjustments. In practice the return may be simpler, but the underlying rules are the same.
Preparation usually starts with a review of the company's financial information for the accounting period — its income, expenditure, assets and liabilities. From there, the accounting profit or loss is considered and the relevant tax adjustments are identified, which may include items such as expenditure that is not allowable for tax purposes or allowances that can be claimed where applicable. The taxable profit is then determined, and the Corporation Tax Return, including the CT600 and supporting computations, is prepared for submission to HMRC. The exact steps depend on the company's circumstances.
They are two separate documents with two separate audiences. Statutory accounts are prepared under the applicable accounting framework and are delivered to Companies House where required, with a copy also forming the starting point for the tax figures. A Corporation Tax Return such as a CT600 is submitted to HMRC and deals with taxable profit and the tax due. Filing one does not complete the other, so a company that submits its CT600 has not thereby discharged its Companies House accounts obligations, and preparing and delivering accounts to Companies House is not the same as filing a Company Tax Return with HMRC.
Accounting profit is calculated under accounting standards, while taxable profit is calculated under tax rules, and the two do not always match. Some expenses shown in the accounts may not be allowable for Corporation Tax, while other reliefs and allowances may reduce taxable profit instead. Timing differences can also arise, for example where the tax treatment of an item falls in a different period from its accounting treatment. This is why a CT600 is normally supported by a tax computation that reconciles accounting profit to taxable profit.
They are separate deadlines with separate purposes, and they should not be treated as interchangeable. The deadline for submitting the Corporation Tax Return to HMRC and the deadline for paying the Corporation Tax that is due are set by different rules, and payment generally falls earlier than the filing date. The exact dates depend on the company's accounting period and its circumstances, so it is worth confirming them for your own company rather than assuming one date covers both.
Being dormant for Corporation Tax purposes is not the same as being dormant for Companies House purposes, and the two tests are applied separately. A company may be treated as dormant for tax while still having Companies House obligations, such as a confirmation statement or accounts, and dormant status does not automatically remove those filings. On the tax side, whether a return is required depends on the company's circumstances and any correspondence with HMRC; where HMRC has confirmed no return is needed for a period, that position does not necessarily continue indefinitely and should be reviewed as things change.
Yes. Micro Entity Accounts works with micro and small limited companies in Tonbridge Kent and the surrounding area on Corporation Tax Return preparation, CT600 filing and the tax computations that support them. We can work from your bookkeeping records, draft accounts or trial balance, explain what adjustments are being made and why, and prepare the return for submission to HMRC where applicable. If you also need statutory accounts, we can discuss how the two fit together for your accounting period.
