We worked with a few different accountants before finally settling with Accotax, and we’re really glad we did. Their team is great. Abdul is responsive and easy to reach whenever I have a question, which makes a big difference. They take the time to understand how our business works and what our needs are. They are very knowledgeable, and when they don’t have the answer straight away, they take the time to look into it and get back to us quickly. Anum, who looks after our account on a day-to-day basis, including reconciling invoices and preparing the annual accounts, is amazing. She is professional, efficient, and follows the processes we have put in place together. She's also very quickin getting back to us whenever needed. We’re very happy to work with her and hope to continue doing so for as long as possible. Overall, Accotax has made our accounting experience much smoother and easier. We see them as a long-term partner as our business continues to grow. I would 100% recommend them.Posted on Google![]()

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend you to anyone looking for an accountant they can genuinely trust.Posted on Google![]()

A Corporation Tax Return is the mechanism by which a limited company reports its taxable profit or loss to HMRC and calculates the Corporation Tax due for an accounting period. It is not the same document as the statutory accounts filed at Companies House, although the two are connected. The figures in your statutory accounts normally form the starting point for the return, and tax adjustments may then be needed to arrive at the taxable profit figure.
A CT600 is the formal name of the Company Tax Return that is submitted to HMRC. It sets out the company's income, allowable deductions and the resulting Corporation Tax position for the period, supported by computations and, in most cases, a copy of the statutory accounts. Preparing a CT600 involves more than copying figures across: the company's financial information needs to be reviewed, relevant tax adjustments identified and the taxable profit determined before the return is submitted.
No. There is no separate Corporation Tax Return for micro companies, and micro-entity status does not create a distinct Corporation Tax regime. A micro company generally deals with Corporation Tax through the same Corporation Tax Return process as any other company, subject to its own circumstances. Micro-entity status is relevant to the accounting framework used for the statutory accounts and to the associated disclosure requirements, which is a separate matter from how the CT600 itself is prepared.
Preparation normally begins with a review of the company's financial information for the accounting period, including the profit or loss shown by the books and records. From there, the accounts profit is adjusted for items that are treated differently for tax purposes, so that the taxable profit can be determined. The CT600, supporting computations and the required attachments are then prepared for submission to HMRC. Depending on the company's circumstances, additional disclosures or claims may be relevant.
Statutory accounts are the annual accounts prepared for the company and delivered to Companies House where required. A Corporation Tax Return, such as a CT600, is submitted to HMRC to report the company's tax position. They serve different purposes, go to different bodies and follow different rules, so filing the accounts at Companies House does not itself discharge the company's Corporation Tax filing obligation, and filing a CT600 does not complete the company's Companies House accounts or confirmation statement obligations.
The profit reported in the statutory accounts is calculated under accounting rules, while taxable profit is calculated under tax rules. Certain items of expenditure that are valid business costs for accounting purposes may not be allowable for Corporation Tax, and other reliefs or adjustments may apply. Because of this, tax adjustments are commonly needed to move from the accounting profit to the taxable profit used in the return. The figures can therefore differ even where the underlying bookkeeping is entirely correct.
They are separate deadlines and should not be treated as one date. HMRC sets a date by which the Corporation Tax Return must be submitted, and a date by which any Corporation Tax liability must be paid. In practice, the payment date can fall earlier than the return deadline. The specific dates depend on the company's accounting period and its circumstances, so it is worth confirming them for each period rather than assuming a single deadline applies.
Being dormant for Corporation Tax purposes is not the same as being dormant for Companies House purposes, and the two have different filing consequences. Where HMRC has issued a notice to file, a return is normally required even if the company has not been trading, unless HMRC confirms otherwise. Dormant status does not automatically remove the company's Companies House filing obligations, and it does not mean a return is never required again. The position should be checked for the company's particular circumstances, including whether any transactions have taken place.
