We worked with a few different accountants before finally settling with Accotax, and we’re really glad we did. Their team is great. Abdul is responsive and easy to reach whenever I have a question, which makes a big difference. They take the time to understand how our business works and what our needs are. They are very knowledgeable, and when they don’t have the answer straight away, they take the time to look into it and get back to us quickly. Anum, who looks after our account on a day-to-day basis, including reconciling invoices and preparing the annual accounts, is amazing. She is professional, efficient, and follows the processes we have put in place together. She's also very quickin getting back to us whenever needed. We’re very happy to work with her and hope to continue doing so for as long as possible. Overall, Accotax has made our accounting experience much smoother and easier. We see them as a long-term partner as our business continues to grow. I would 100% recommend them.Posted on Google![]()

If a company is within the charge to Corporation Tax, it will generally need to report its results to HMRC by submitting a Corporation Tax Return for each accounting period. That return sets out the company's taxable profit or loss and the Corporation Tax due, and for most companies it is filed online. Whether a return is required, and what it needs to contain, depends on the company's circumstances — for example, whether it traded during the period or has been treated as dormant for Corporation Tax purposes.
The CT600 is the form HMRC uses for a Company Tax Return, which is the formal way a company reports its Corporation Tax position. It contains details of the company, the accounting period, and the figures taken from the accounts and tax computations, together with the amount of Corporation Tax payable or repayable. In practice the CT600 is submitted online, usually alongside iXBRL-tagged statutory accounts and a tax computation. Preparing it properly means the figures on the form agree with the accounts and the underlying records.
No. Micro-entity status is an accounting framework that determines how a company's statutory accounts are prepared, and it does not create a separate Corporation Tax regime or a different type of CT600. A micro company deals with Corporation Tax through the same applicable Corporation Tax Return process as any other company, subject to its circumstances. Eligibility for the micro-entity framework depends on the applicable criteria, the accounting period and the company's own position, so it is not automatic for every small company.
Preparation usually begins with a review of the company's financial information for the accounting period, including the profit and loss account, balance sheet and supporting records. The accounting profit or loss is then considered and relevant tax adjustments are identified, such as disallowable expenditure or capital allowances where they apply. Those adjustments feed into the taxable profit, which is set out in a tax computation and reflected in the CT600 for submission to HMRC. For directors in Llangefni running a small trading or professional company, the level of work depends on the number of transactions, the type of income and any unusual items during the year.
Statutory accounts are prepared under company law and, where required, delivered to Companies House. A Corporation Tax Return, such as a CT600, is a tax filing submitted to HMRC. They are separate documents with separate purposes and separate recipients, and one does not replace the other. Filing statutory accounts with Companies House does not satisfy the company's Corporation Tax filing obligation, and HMRC does not approve statutory accounts — that is not part of HMRC's role.
Statutory accounts are prepared under accounting standards, while taxable profit is calculated under Corporation Tax rules. Adjustments may therefore be needed, for example adding back expenditure that is not allowable for tax, or reflecting reliefs and allowances that are treated differently in the accounts. As a result, the profit shown in the statutory accounts may not be the same as the taxable profit reported on the Corporation Tax Return. The adjustments depend on the company's individual transactions for the period.
Not necessarily. The deadline for submitting the Corporation Tax Return and the deadline for paying the Corporation Tax due are separate requirements, both linked to the company's accounting period, and they do not always fall on the same date. Payment dates can also be affected by the company's circumstances, such as whether it has previously fallen within the quarterly instalment regime. It is worth confirming the dates that apply to your company rather than assuming a single date covers both, and keeping records of each so that neither is overlooked.
Dormancy for Corporation Tax purposes is not the same as dormancy for Companies House purposes. A company may be inactive for tax but still have Companies House filing obligations, and dormant status does not automatically remove them. Equally, a dormant company does not always have to keep submitting Corporation Tax Returns indefinitely — whether a return is required depends on HMRC's requirements and the company's circumstances for the period. If a previously dormant company starts trading again, the position can change.
