I highly recommend Imran to anyone looking for a reliable and knowledgeable accountant. He helped me sort out a very complicated backlog of accounts and prepared my overdue tax returns with professionalism and attention to detail. Throughout the process, he was incredibly patient, took the time to answer all of my questions, and explained everything clearly. We worked with a few different accountants before finally settling with Accotax, and we’re really glad we did. Their team is great. Abdul is responsive and easy to reach whenever I have a question, which makes a big difference. They take the time to understand how our business works and what our needs are. They are very knowledgeable, and when they don’t have the answer straight away, they take the time to look into it and get back to us quickly. Anum, who looks after our account on a day-to-day basis, including reconciling invoices and preparing the annual accounts, is amazing. She is professional, efficient, and follows the processes we have put in place together. She's also very quickin getting back to us whenever needed. We’re very happy to work with her and hope to continue doing so for as long as possible. Overall, Accotax has made our accounting experience much smoother and easier. We see them as a long-term partner as our business continues to grow. I would 100% recommend them.

I have really impressed to date with all dealings with Accotax highly enough. From day one, they've made what can often be a complicated and stressful part of running a business feel straightforward and hassle-free. A special mention has to go to Anum, who has been friendly, incredibly responsive, and genuinely cares about providing the best possible service. No question is ever too much trouble, and she consistently goes above and beyond to make sure everything is dealt with efficiently. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend you to anyone looking for an accountant they can genuinely trust.

FAQs: Corporation Tax Returns For Micro Companies

A Corporation Tax Return is the formal report a company makes to HMRC covering a particular accounting period. It sets out the company's income, allowable deductions and the resulting taxable profit, together with the Corporation Tax that is due, where any is payable. It is a company-level filing, so it is separate from anything the directors report personally through Self Assessment. Most active limited companies need to deal with one for each accounting period, although the exact position depends on the company's circumstances.

A CT600 is the name of the form HMRC uses for a Company Tax Return. It is submitted to HMRC, normally online, and is usually accompanied by a copy of the statutory accounts and a tax computation that shows how accounting profit has been adjusted to arrive at taxable profit. The CT600 is not sent to Companies House — it goes to HMRC, and it covers the company's own Corporation Tax position for the period in question.

No. There is no separate micro-entity CT600 or distinct Corporation Tax regime for smaller companies. A micro company deals with Corporation Tax through the same Corporation Tax Return process as any other limited company, subject to its own circumstances and the applicable requirements. Micro-entity status relates to the accounting framework used when preparing and filing accounts, not to the Corporation Tax Return itself. Eligibility for that framework depends on the applicable criteria, the accounting period and the company's circumstances.

Preparation generally starts with reviewing the company's financial information for the period and considering the accounting profit or loss shown by the records. From there, relevant tax adjustments can be identified — for example, disallowable expenditure or capital allowances — before the taxable profit is determined and the return is prepared for submission to HMRC. The level of work varies considerably between companies, so the process is tailored to the figures and activities involved rather than applied in a fixed way.

These are two different documents with two different audiences. Statutory accounts are prepared under the applicable accounting framework and delivered to Companies House where required. A Corporation Tax Return, such as the CT600, is submitted to HMRC. Filing statutory accounts does not satisfy the Corporation Tax filing obligation, and submitting a CT600 does not complete the company's accounts, confirmation statement or any other Companies House requirement. Each has its own purpose, its own deadline and its own submission route.

Accounting profit is calculated under accounting standards, while taxable profit is calculated under Corporation Tax rules. The two can diverge because certain items of income or expenditure are treated differently for tax purposes, meaning adjustments may be needed. Common examples include entertaining costs, depreciation replaced by capital allowances, and non-deductible expenses. Because of this, the profit shown in the statutory accounts is not always the same figure that is taxed, and a computation is normally prepared to bridge the gap.

Not necessarily. The deadline for submitting a Corporation Tax Return and the deadline for paying any Corporation Tax due are separate requirements and do not always fall on the same date. Missing one does not automatically mean the other has been missed, but both matter. Because the dates depend on the company's accounting period and its circumstances, it is worth confirming your own deadlines with HMRC guidance or with an accountant rather than assuming they coincide.

Dormant for Corporation Tax purposes is not the same as dormant for Companies House purposes, and the two tests can produce different answers. A company may still have Companies House filing obligations even where it has no Corporation Tax to report. Whether a Corporation Tax Return needs to be submitted, and for how long, depends on the company's circumstances and HMRC's requirements. If you are unsure where a new or quiet company stands, it is worth checking before assuming no return is needed.
