I worked with Accotx on a HMRC reclaim and overall, they did ultimately deliver on their promise, which I appreciate. The process did take longer than any of us expected, partly due to external delays with the tax authorities, and partly because there were some hiccups in communication and follow-up. However, despite those challenges, they stayed professional and stuck to the original agreed terms. If you’re considering using them, be prepared to stay in regular contact to keep things moving along. They are absolutely capable, have the expertise and willing to work with you, and overall improving their services over time. I would certainly return for any future needs.

I highly recommend Imran to anyone looking for a reliable and knowledgeable accountant. He helped me sort out a very complicated backlog of accounts and prepared my overdue tax returns with professionalism and attention to detail. Throughout the process, he was incredibly patient, took the time to answer all of my questions, and explained everything clearly. He guided me through each step and helped rectify issues that had built up over time, making what felt like an overwhelming situation much more manageable. I'm very pleased with the service I've received and truly appreciate his support. If you need help with your accounts or taxes, I would highly recommend Imran.

Preparing, reviewing and filing your annual accounts with Companies House

Annual Accounts Filing generally involves preparing the company’s accounts for the relevant accounting period, reviewing the financial information behind them, and submitting them to Companies House where filing is required. The finished accounts should reflect the company’s financial position and performance and be prepared under the accounting framework that applies to it. For Redditch companies, the process can be handled end to end, so directors know what is being filed and when.

Which UK limited companies need Annual Accounts Filing?

Annual Accounts Filing responsibilities generally apply to UK registered limited companies, including micro-entities, dormant companies, one-director companies and other eligible small companies. The format, content and filing requirements can vary depending on company size, the accounting period, whether the company is dormant, the applicable accounting framework and any available exemptions. Because of this, the accounts one company files may look quite different from another’s.

Annual accounts provide information about a company's financial position and performance for the relevant accounting period. They are prepared under the accounting framework applicable to the company and are generally filed with Companies House where the company has a filing obligation. Depending on the company's size and circumstances, they may include a balance sheet, a profit and loss account, notes and other required statements or information.

UK registered limited companies generally have annual accounts filing responsibilities with Companies House, although this is subject to the company's circumstances and any applicable exemptions. Micro-entities, dormant companies, one-director companies and other eligible small limited companies can all fall within scope, but the type and level of detail of the accounts filed can differ. It is worth confirming the position for your own company rather than assuming the same rules apply to everyone.

The deadline depends on the company's individual circumstances and accounting period. Private companies generally have a Companies House filing deadline based on their accounting reference period, but the exact date should be checked for the specific company. Directors remain responsible for making sure the accounts are prepared and filed on time, even when an accountant or filing service submits them on the company's behalf.

No. Annual accounts filed with Companies House are separate from a Company Tax Return (CT600) submitted to HMRC. Information from the accounts may be used when preparing the company's Corporation Tax computation and CT600, but filing annual accounts with Companies House does not itself constitute filing a Corporation Tax Return. The two have different purposes and different filing routes.

No, they are different obligations. A confirmation statement confirms that the information Companies House holds about the company is correct, while annual accounts report on the company's financial position and performance for the accounting period. They are filed separately and should not be treated as interchangeable, even though both form part of a company's ongoing compliance.

Dormant companies may still have annual accounts filing responsibilities with Companies House. Being dormant for Corporation Tax purposes does not automatically mean the company is exempt from filing annual accounts with Companies House, as the two positions are assessed differently. The accounts required can also depend on the company's circumstances, so it is sensible to check what applies before assuming nothing needs to be filed.

Micro-entities may qualify for the micro-entities regime and may prepare accounts using FRS 105 where that regime applies and is chosen. For accounting periods beginning on or after 6 April 2025, a company generally needs to meet at least two of three size conditions: turnover of no more than £1 million, a balance sheet total of no more than £500,000, and an average of no more than 10 employees. Applicable rules and exclusions still need to be considered, so meeting the figures alone does not automatically confirm eligibility.

Companies House can impose late filing penalties when annual accounts are filed after the relevant deadline. Those penalties relate to the Companies House annual accounts filing and are separate from HMRC deadlines for Corporation Tax Returns. If you are concerned about a filing date, it is best to look at your company's own deadline and take advice on the position rather than relying on general assumptions.
