First Year Accounts for Limited Company in Witney, Prepared by Specialists in New Company Reporting

If your company was incorporated recently, the first set of statutory accounts can be the point where directors realise how much sits behind the phrase year-end. First Year Accounts for Limited Company in Witney are the accounts covering your company’s initial accounting period, built from the accounting records you hold and delivered to Companies House where required. Micro Entity Accounts helps directors through that first cycle: reviewing bank transactions and supporting documents, preparing a balance sheet and profit and loss account where applicable, and explaining how these statutory accounts sit separately from Corporation Tax reporting, including a CT600 submitted to HMRC where one is due. Clear pricing, no hidden costs, and straightforward guidance for a company at the start of its reporting history.

I highly recommend Imran to anyone looking for a reliable and knowledgeable accountant. He helped me sort out a very complicated backlog of accounts and prepared my overdue tax returns with professionalism and attention to detail. Throughout the process, he was incredibly patient, took the time to answer all of my questions, and explained everything clearly. He guided me through each step and helped rectify issues that had built up over time, making what felt like an overwhelming situation much more manageable. I'm very pleased with the service I've received and truly appreciate his support. If you need help with your accounts or taxes, I would highly recommend Imran.

I had a positive experience with Accotax. The work was completed promptly, my tax return was successfully filed, and I received a refund of overpaid tax. I found the cooperation efficient and helpful. Special thanks to Muhammad Saifullah for his assistance.

We worked with a few different accountants before finally settling with Accotax, and we’re really glad we did. Their team is great. Abdul is responsive and easy to reach whenever I have a question, which makes a big difference. They take the time to understand how our business works and what our needs are. They are very knowledgeable, and when they don’t have the answer straight away, they take the time to look into it and get back to us quickly. Anum, who looks after our account on a day-to-day basis, including reconciling invoices and preparing the annual accounts, is amazing. She is professional, efficient, and follows the processes we have put in place together. She's also very quickin getting back to us whenever needed. We’re very happy to work with her and hope to continue doing so for as long as possible. Overall, Accotax has made our accounting experience much smoother and easier. We see them as a long-term partner as our business continues to grow. I would 100% recommend them.

I have really impressed to date with all dealings with Accotax highly enough. From day one, they've made what can often be a complicated and stressful part of running a business feel straightforward and hassle-free. A special mention has to go to Anum, who has been friendly, incredibly responsive, and genuinely cares about providing the best possible service. No question is ever too much trouble, and she consistently goes above and beyond to make sure everything is dealt with efficiently. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend you to anyone looking for an accountant they can genuinely trust.

Your first filing timeline

Your first filing timeline depends on your company's incorporation date and accounting reference date.

Accounting reference date

First accounts due

Normally 21 months after incorporation at Companies House.

First CT600 due

12 months after the end of the accounting period, with tax due earlier.

What Are First Year Accounts for a Micro Company? A Guide for New Limited Companies in Witney

First year accounts are the first set of annual statutory accounts a limited company prepares for its initial accounting period. That period normally begins on the date of incorporation, and the date it ends depends on the company’s accounting reference date and the applicable Companies House rules, so two companies incorporated in the same month may not share the same first filing date. The accounts themselves are prepared from the company’s accounting records and, where required, filed at Companies House. They are not the same as a Corporation Tax Return such as a CT600, which is submitted to HMRC separately, and they do not replace a confirmation statement, which deals with the company’s registered information rather than its financial results. Some newly incorporated companies qualify for the micro-entity framework, and where they do, FRS 105 is the financial reporting standard applicable to qualifying entities using that framework. Eligibility depends on the company’s circumstances and the requirements for the relevant accounting period, which is why it is worth confirming the correct basis before preparation begins rather than assuming a simplified framework applies.

Does Your New Company Qualify as a Micro Entity?

Even in your first period, your company must meet the Companies House size criteria to file micro-entity accounts. A company generally needs to meet at least two of these three conditions.

Business Turnover

Annual Turnover of £1 Million or less. (£632,000 previously)

Balance Sheet

Balance sheet total of £500,000 or less.(£316,000 previously)

Company Size

On an average 10 or less employees

Most directors approaching their first year end are not short of questions. Which period do the accounts cover? What happens if the records are incomplete? What still needs to go to Companies House, and what is a separate HMRC matter? These are reasonable concerns for a newly incorporated company, and they are easier to deal with when someone experienced reviews the position early. Micro Entity Accounts provides professional first-year accounts preparation and filing support for limited companies, including guidance on the accounting framework that fits your company and what is required from your records. If your first year end is approaching, or has already passed, getting the accounts properly prepared is a sensible next step.

They are the first set of statutory annual accounts a company prepares, covering its initial accounting period from incorporation. They typically include a balance sheet, and a profit and loss account where applicable, together with any notes required by the accounting framework the company uses. Once prepared, they are generally filed at Companies House where filing is required. They are a Companies House document, not an HMRC filing.

There is no single answer that applies to every company. The due date is worked out from the company's incorporation date, its accounting reference date and the length of the first accounting period, which can be longer than twelve months in some cases. Companies House sets out how first accounts periods and deadlines are determined, so the safest approach is to check your company's own dates rather than assume it follows the same pattern as another new company.

It depends on what the company has done, but typical records include bank statements and transactions, sales or income records, purchase invoices and business expenses, asset purchases, share capital details, director loans or transactions, and any payroll or VAT records where those apply. Companies with very little activity often need less. A review of what you hold usually identifies any gaps before preparation starts.

In most cases yes, once the first accounting period ends and the accounts filing obligation falls due, even where activity has been limited. It is worth noting that this is separate from the confirmation statement, which is also filed at Companies House but confirms the company's registered details rather than reporting its financial position. Accountants in Witney and elsewhere can confirm which obligations apply to a particular company.

No. The statutory accounts are prepared for the company's members and filed at Companies House where required. A CT600 is a Corporation Tax Return submitted to HMRC, and the company's first Corporation Tax accounting period may not be identical to its statutory accounts period. Filing one does not complete the other, although the figures in the accounts are often used when working out the Corporation Tax position.

Only if it meets the eligibility conditions for micro-entity reporting in the relevant accounting period. Being newly incorporated, small or low-activity does not automatically make a company a micro-entity, and FRS 105 does not apply to every new company. The appropriate framework should be confirmed against the applicable requirements before the accounts are prepared, as the position can differ from one company to the next.

A company can still have statutory filing obligations even where it has had limited or no activity, so incorporation alone does not remove the need to consider them. Whether accounts are prepared on a normal or dormant basis depends on the company's circumstances and the applicable rules rather than an assumption. Directors remain responsible for making sure the company meets its obligations.

Filing after the applicable deadline can lead to Companies House consequences, which may include a late filing penalty depending on how overdue the accounts are. Paying a penalty does not remove the requirement to file the outstanding accounts. If you believe there is a valid reason for the delay, appeal eligibility depends on the circumstances and the applicable rules, and it is worth taking advice before assuming an appeal will sì³®d.
