First Year Accounts for Limited Company in Windlesham — Professional Preparation and Filing Support

Your company’s first set of statutory accounts sets the tone for how smoothly its compliance runs in the years that follow. Micro Entity Accounts works with newly incorporated and newly trading limited companies in Windlesham to prepare those first-year statutory accounts properly — reviewing the accounting records you hold, drafting a balance sheet and, where applicable, a profit and loss account, and supporting you with delivery to Companies House where required. We also help you understand how the first accounting period works and how it relates to the company’s accounting reference date. It is worth being clear that Corporation Tax is a separate matter: a limited company may also need to prepare and submit a Corporation Tax Return such as a CT600 to HMRC, and filing accounts with Companies House does not do that for you. Our role is to make sure the accounts side of your first year is handled accurately and explained in plain English, so you know what has been filed, why, and what still needs attention.

I highly recommend Imran to anyone looking for a reliable and knowledgeable accountant. He helped me sort out a very complicated backlog of accounts and prepared my overdue tax returns with professionalism and attention to detail. Throughout the process, he was incredibly patient, took the time to answer all of my questions, and explained everything clearly. He guided me through each step and helped rectify issues that had built up over time, making what felt like an overwhelming situation much more manageable. We worked with a few different accountants before finally settling with Accotax, and we’re really glad we did. Their team is great. Abdul is responsive and easy to reach whenever I have a question, which makes a big difference. They take the time to understand how our business works and what our needs are. They are very knowledgeable, and when they don’t have the answer straight away, they take the time to look into it and get back to us quickly. Anum, who looks after our account on a day-to-day basis, including reconciling invoices and preparing the annual accounts, is amazing. She is professional, efficient, and follows the processes we have put in place together. She's also very quickin getting back to us whenever needed. We’re very happy to work with her and hope to continue doing so for as long as possible. Overall, Accotax has made our accounting experience much smoother and easier. We see them as a long-term partner as our business continues to grow. I would 100% recommend them.

I have really impressed to date with all dealings with Accotax highly enough. From day one, they've made what can often be a complicated and stressful part of running a business feel straightforward and hassle-free. A special mention has to go to Anum, who has been friendly, incredibly responsive, and genuinely cares about providing the best possible service. No question is ever too much trouble, and she consistently goes above and beyond to make sure everything is dealt with efficiently. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend you to anyone looking for an accountant they can genuinely trust.

What Are First Year Accounts for a Micro Company? A Guide for Windlesham Directors

First-year accounts are the first set of annual statutory accounts a limited company prepares for its initial accounting period. For a company incorporated in Windlesham, that period generally runs from the date of incorporation to the company’s first accounting reference date, although the exact period depends on the incorporation date and the accounting reference date that applies. These accounts are not optional simply because the company is new. A company may still have statutory filing obligations even where it has carried out limited activity or has not yet commenced trading, and its reporting position in that situation depends on its own circumstances and the applicable rules rather than being automatically described as dormant. The accounts themselves normally include a balance sheet, and a profit and loss account where applicable, together with any notes the relevant reporting framework requires. For an eligible company, that framework may be the micro-entity regime, with FRS 105 as the financial reporting standard applicable to qualifying entities using the micro-entity accounting framework. Eligibility is not automatic: a company needs to meet the applicable criteria for the accounting period in question, and the appropriate framework should be confirmed before preparation begins. A company that does not qualify would report under a different framework. It also helps to keep three separate obligations apart. First-year statutory accounts are delivered to Companies House where required. A Corporation Tax Return, such as a CT600, is submitted to HMRC where applicable, and the company’s first Corporation Tax accounting period may not be identical to its statutory accounts period. A confirmation statement is separate again, and filing accounts does not replace it. Directors remain responsible for making sure the company meets each of these obligations, even when an accountant prepares and files the accounts on the company’s behalf.

Does Your New Company Qualify as a Micro Entity?

Even in your first period, your company must meet the Companies House size criteria to file micro-entity accounts. A company generally needs to meet at least two of these three conditions.

Balance Sheet

Get Your First Year Accounts for Limited Company in Windlesham Prepared Accurately

If you have recently incorporated a company, the first set of statutory accounts can raise more questions than expected — which period they cover, what records you need to pull together, whether the micro-entity framework applies, and what actually has to be sent to Companies House. Those are reasonable concerns, and they are easier to resolve early rather than close to a filing date. Micro Entity Accounts provides professional support with first-year accounts preparation and filing for eligible UK limited companies, including directors of newly incorporated and newly trading companies in Windlesham. We review the information you hold, prepare the accounts in line with the framework that applies to your company, and talk you through what is being filed and where. If you would rather start your company’s reporting history on a sound footing, speaking to an accountant who deals with first-year accounts regularly is a sensible first step.

First-year accounts are the first set of annual statutory accounts a limited company prepares for its initial accounting period — broadly the period from incorporation to its first accounting reference date, subject to the rules that apply to first accounts. They generally include a balance sheet and, where applicable, a profit and loss account, plus any notes required by the reporting framework the company uses. For a director in Windlesham running a newly incorporated company, they are usually the first formal financial summary of the business, whether or not trading has begun.

It depends on the company's incorporation date and its accounting reference date. Companies House applies particular rules to a company's first accounts that are not the same as the rules for later years, so the due date cannot be assumed. The safest approach is to check the position for your own company rather than rely on a general figure, and to plan the preparation work well before the date you identify.

Typically we would look at the company's incorporation details and share capital information, bank statements and transactions, sales or income records, business expenses and purchase invoices, asset purchases, director transactions and any loans or finance arrangements. Where relevant to the company, payroll records and VAT records may also be needed. Not every company will have all of these — a company with limited activity may have very little to review — but the accounts need to reflect what actually happened during the period.

Where required, yes. First-year statutory accounts are generally delivered to Companies House for the company's initial accounting period, and this obligation is not removed by the fact that the company is new or has had little activity. Whether the company is genuinely dormant is a separate question that depends on its circumstances and the applicable rules. It is also worth noting that Companies House does not check or approve the accounts in any professional or regulatory sense — it receives and registers the filing.

No. They serve different purposes and go to different places. Statutory accounts are delivered to Companies House where required, while a Corporation Tax Return such as a CT600 is submitted to HMRC where applicable. The figures in the accounts are often used as a starting point when preparing the company's Corporation Tax position, but submitting one does not complete the other. HMRC does not approve the statutory accounts, and Companies House does not submit your tax return for you.

Some newly incorporated companies may qualify for simplified reporting as micro-entities if they meet the applicable eligibility requirements for the relevant accounting period. It is not automatic, and a company with low activity or low turnover does not automatically qualify either. Where a company does qualify, FRS 105 is the financial reporting standard applicable to qualifying entities using the micro-entity accounting framework. The right framework should be confirmed against the company's circumstances before the accounts are prepared.

They are separate filings. A confirmation statement is not replaced by filing first-year accounts, and a company may still need to submit one and keep its Companies House information up to date. Directors in Windlesham should treat the accounts, the confirmation statement and any Corporation Tax obligations as distinct items with their own requirements and dates, rather than assuming one covers another.

Failing to file required accounts by the applicable deadline can result in Companies House consequences, which may include penalties that vary according to how late the filing is. Paying a penalty does not remove the requirement to file the outstanding accounts. Where a penalty appeal may be relevant, eligibility depends on the circumstances and the applicable rules, so it is worth taking advice on the specific position rather than assuming an appeal will s쳮d.
